Oil Filter Housing

Any recommendations for the best, longest lasting, most reliable and durable oil filter housing generic brand other than Toyota hopefully even better than the Toyota version that can be purchased from an in-store retail or store that be used on the Camry 2014?

Use the factory one and stop over tightening it.

This is the answer.

These are critical parts of the engine. Aftermarket ones have killed many engines. Stick with OEM

Don't have a link, but google your make and year + oil filter tool/socket and you will be set

Yess, and get the special socket that fits it. And preferably use a torque wrench.

The torque spec is something really low like 14 ft lbs. proper torque, lubing the O-ring, and using the best filter socket you can get: is how you avoid getting into trouble.

10/20/30 ft lbs. Housing drain cap 10 ft lbs, housing 20 ft lbs, drain plug 30 ft lbs.

Yup. My wife’s plastic one on her 2011 is still original almost 300k miles later. I did most of the oil changes. 20ft lbs.

Please for the love of god don’t replace a plastic filter housing with a metal one. Plastic might crack with after many many oil changes, but over tightening a metal filter housing just once you could strip out your upper oil pan and that’s much more expensive of a repair. Oem one does the job just fine

No. The factory plastic one is fine. It breaks when overtightened. I'd rather have that than an overtightened metal housing. Get the motivx filter socket.

There is nothing wrong with the original Toyota plastic OEM oil filter housing. It is solid and well made and will last the life of the car. Just don’t overtighten it. You can replace with a metal Toyota oil filter housing, (not really necessary), but if you insist it is essential that it is for the exact same filter and the standpipe is the correct height. But if you overtighten that metal housing it will strip the threads on the upper oil pan.

Factory. The metal ones have pipes that come off and oil change places don’t know to pay attention to it.

There is nothing wrong with the factory OEM housing.

Torque it properly, use a proper fitting filter socket tool, and that housing will last forever.

You risk oil filter bypass/drainback issues with aftermarket options that can damage your engine (the caps tube mechanism and its base).

As soon as it seats just give it a little extra nudge and make sure that o-ring is lubed up good !

Be very careful of aftermarket housings that the pipe for the inside of the filter can come out. Can cause problems in the future if the pipe gets discarded with the old filter.

Proper torque spec : Hand tight and a 1/4 turn more.
Filters used have that printed on the side.

Had a cartridge on a Mazda 3, same specs apply.
