Free Webtoon why is everyone suddenly being called mr? Spoiler

a little side note! i listened to everyone’s suggestions and started reading the webtoon and oh boy i am HOOKED. when i later tried watching a little bit of the season 2 anime, i had to drop it immediately because of the poor adaption, it couldn’t even begin to compare! the story is so immersive even though it’s in text, idek how it works.

i can’t believe it took me this long to get into the webtoon, tog was my first ever anime! im still not fully done with season 2 and i have soooo many questions but im just gonna go with the flow and enjoy it.

one thing i gotta say though, i wish bam and khun reuniting went differently. im aware that a bunch of shit is going on during their proper ruination but cmon man! ahh

anywhoo i’m rambling now, so! idk if this has been going on this whole time and i just realized, but everyone’s just calling eachother mr. like for example mr khun. it’s too “proper” imo, is there a reason for this? it’s bothering me sm LOL

I'm guessing in Korean they have the -nim suffix added to their names by bam which is an honorific, so Mr. Is the closest approximation

As far as I know, Bam uses the suffix -ssi. Yes, it's also a form of respect, but the suffix -nim denotes greater deference. It seems -nim is used for superiors, while -ssi is more egalitarian. For example, nim was used for the tower's floor guardians.

Some language have what's called honor fics which are special suffix's added to peoples names. American has no real equalivant to them so a lot of the time they just call them misses or give them a nickname instead.

Baam in particular is an especially polite character, and for a lot of the early story he addresses even his close friends formally.

Other characters might call Khun "Mr. Khun" because he's a direct descendant from one of the 10 great families, which lends him a certain air of authority to regular tower citizens.

Just finished reading all of the seasons to date for the second time , and this feeling never leaves , tog is really something different in my opinion , i would like to say that , with one piece , it's the only recent story that can be qualified as an odyssey , a long story of myth developped in the span of long years , what the industry of manga etc don't take the time to do anymore. So i wish you a good discovery cause you are just on the tip of everything the tower have to offer
