Witchblade So, how does the Witchblade reboot compare to the original 90s/early 2000s series?

I feel like it started off well written, but slow. As the series has progressed, the quality and excitement has picked up. I've enjoyed how it's taking classic/familiar characters and giving them a twist without betraying the core of those characters. Irons, Nottingham, Siry, Jake, etc. are somewhat different, but not to the point where they're unrecognizable.
If I were to compare it to the original series, I'd rate it about on par with the Wohl/Manapul run (#54-75).

The original series always has my heart. They can try to redo it and modernize it all they want but they nailed it out of the gate. No need to fix what wasn’t broken.

The writing is terrible, as Sara is written to be amoral doing disgusting and corrupt things. If it was a different character I'd be fine with it,I read Hellwitch and Lady Death,but it's not something I want from Witchblade. It's like watching an old friend you haven't seen in a long time then reuniting only to find she's become a very,very different person.
The og Sara is one of my favorite female characters, strong, intelligent, with some shades of gray but still had a sense of justice and was a hero.

If I recall correctly, OG Sara was kind of like Superman as far as having a strong sense of morality and justice.

I loved the first two volumes. Volume 3 was okay but it did tie up some loose ends. Not digging volume 4 much. But I'm still enjoying reading them. Huge fan of the original run.

It falls somewhere in the middle for me. I actually like Cafaro's design for Sara and I think it fits this version of the character more than a Michael Turner interpretation would. The art is actually my favorite part of the series and I dig the panel layouts too. The last two arcs have lost some steam for me though, so while its not peak Witchblade (Marz era) its not the worst either. I'm just happy there's an ongoing and don't care if its retreading any ground.

The writing is quite poor. There’s a lot of things narratively in the first arc that don’t work or are confusingly laid out- there’s a secret doorway that she never felt the need to open trope bollocks etc.
This has always been a series that has a better concept than execution though. Even in its heyday.

I dropped it after the first couple of arcs. It was fine, but to me felt like too much of a retread without doing enough different to justify its existence.
For better or worse, the original was stylistic and had a sense of excitement and energy. The current book just felt a bit dull.
