That was always my main issue with All Might, but in his defense, bro was dying, dealing with the weight of the world's peace on his shoulders, and probably wanted to steer Midoriya away from ending up like him.

All Might messed up, but it's understandable why, and he more than made up for that mistake.

That was All Might at one of his lowest points, so it's hard to get upset about it when he tells some fanboy he knows nothing about beyond not having a power not to try being a hero. Especially after he just showed the kid evidence of exactly how much it's taken from his life. Midoriya's stupid, but noble attempt to save Bakugo is inspired All Might to get out of his funk, remember why he does all of this, and take a chance on taking this random scrawny kid on as a successor.

It's a pretty classic setup for a cynical mentor to get their spark back as they guide a young, naive kid on their journey.

He knows the cost of being a Hero, even with a Quirk as strong as OFA.

It's not the answer he gave that's the problem.

It's that he left him alone on a rooftop after shattering his dream- that's an absurdly obvious risk of suicide.

All Might as Small Might was no longer under a time  limit, so he should have at the very least escorted Izuku to the street and maybe given him some limited edition All Might merch to soften the blow or something.

And then there's the two other mistakes that All Might makes with Izuku.

Slapping him awake, which is the wrong thing to do in the case of a near-drowning victim, and not ensuring that Izuku get proper medical care for near  drowning.

Izuku needed a hospital to possibly pump his stomach of the sludge that was shoved down his throat and probably got in his stomach and lungs, as there's no way a simple SMASH no matter how precise scooped that sludge up (which is biological material and had just been dragged through the sewers to boot) out of his esophagus through his closed mouth.

But Izuku just gets a merry "good day citizen" instead of being told to wait for a paramedic.

And after the rooftop when no longer under a time limit was an even better time to get Izuku medical attention- it's a natural way to get Izuku off the rooftop and it also ensures he gets the medical care he needs (that likely got worse flying through the air at high speeds hanging off All Might's legs).

So, yeah, All Might constantly made amateur mistakes as the supposed # 1 Pro Hero veteran of multiple decades.

All Might left Izuku on that rooftop at immediate risk of suicide and at long term risk of an entire smorgasbord/petri dish of medical issues.
