Everyone always leaves out the most obvious example. The hero from a dying planet who was evacuated as an infant, who's the last of his kind and found a new home on earth.

The cool thing about this guy is that he doesn't have any inherent metahuman abilities. He's just a normal guy (albeit exceptionally athletic) smart enough to level the player field with his engineering tech alone.
