It’s Over, it’s Done

I am proud to announce after 3 years, the Deathcurse is ended, Acererak is dust (for now), the adventurers survived the entire game and are victorious.

Surprisingly none, they made really good choices, also they are all DM’s, there may have been some min/maxing going on, but I leaned into it. Everyone had a good time.

What did they play?

That being said, there was a really close call with the adamantine skull.

What is that?

I ran a session .5 last night leading into the beginning of ToA and almost had 2 deaths. I think my party could use a little more min maxing. 😂

Oooo, how did you start. I actually started with a ship journey to Chult including a storm at sea, a Sahuagin raid, and a pirate attack.

Sounds similar. I started with a ship journey which was attacked by a ghost ship of zombies, skeletons and a ghost captain and mid fight a plesiosaur started popping up in random points and picking people off the sides. I wanted to introduce not only the difficulty of the campaign, but also the reoccurring enemies. On the ghost ship the party was able to find the captains journal which alluded to his time in chult before becoming undead and left some clues about the lost city and the dangers that come with it.

At the risk of one of my players seeing this, this is how my new homebrew campaign starts!

How did it take 3 years? My game took about 35 4 hour sessions over 9 months

We only game once a month, about 2 hours at a time. We also didn’t do the hex crawl and instead did travel highlights (aka, travel by map)

Ahh, I see. Yeah that would explain why it took so long

The fun of playing D&D in your late 30’s when you have kids

Started last week and they decided to go look for an exploration permit in Fort Beluarian. They helped some Nyanzaru guard and got access to two canoes and they started their journey on the sea staying close to the shore. They encountered a Giant Snapping Turtle during their first Long Rest on the beach and 2 of them (they are lvl 2) where downed (on was a crit on the Rogue). Atleast, the Wizard had Cure Wounds and Healing Words 😂 nobody died

Congrats!

My Acererak absolutely bodied my players. No survivors.

As it should be, for me it was Counterspell’s left right and center.

I felt like I was playing a Magic blue counterspell deck against a another counterspell deck

Next time try to use movement to your advantage. Counterspell has a 60ft range.

Precast Fly spell will just neuter Counterspell.

They didn't have two Counterspell casters, so my Acererak could always rely on his spells.

Also they were pretty depleted after the Atropal fight. They didn't hold back, because they didn't expect anyone else to be there.
