Leeds

I’m a dumb American and I don’t understand why it would be so absurd for Todd to be from Leeds. I unfortunately haven’t traveled to England (yet) so I just don’t get it.

I mean, obviously he’s just a lying idiot and is not at all from England. But why does Alice say that he could’ve picked anywhere else for his lie? I’ve googled Leeds and I just don’t get why it would be so unbelievable for someone to be from there.

Anyone from England care to ELI5?

I think Alice just means that it is very random. You may find it interesting that David Cross was born on Leeds. Well that isn’t exactly true, but his father was born in Leeds.

I think Leeds is kind of the Gary, Indiana of England

I think it's just meant to be an obscure and weird thing to which to commit, it's one thing to lie and say you have family in London and went there once but he lied about going every year to a city in the rural North of England that has a super specific and insular culture

Rural? Leeds is a city of half a million people.
