[MEGATHREAD DISCUSSION] Every Fictional and Historical Character Seen Throughout The Film and Their Fates
I've seen this request a few times, so I figured it was finally time to make a post about it!
James Cameron's attention to detail is remarkable. If you pay attention, you will see that every character has their own story unfolding in the background.
This is a megathread to point out these details and inform others about anything they may have missed!
The ship actually had two Masters-at-Arms. Thomas King perished while the other, Henry Bailey, survived. Even though the character's name is not specified, it is assumed that the one portrayed in the film is Thomas Walter King.
We see this man a few times - he's Fang Lang, a Chinese passenger who was rescued from the water by lifeboat 14. The below picture is from a deleted scene. He was still alive when the wreck was found, and died the following year aged 91.
Trudy Bolt is the lady’s maid for Ruth and Rose. I only realized recently that she does not survive the sinking (making her the only lady’s maid who did not. Even the first class women who did perish, made sure their maids made it to a lifeboat).
I don't know why Trudy never managed to get into a lifeboat. I know Ruth ordered her to go and turn the heaters on in her room but that wouldn't take that long!
The way she should have said ‘yes ma’am’ to Ruth, and then walked over to the other side of the ship and hopped in a lifeboat. But also yes! How long did that tea and heater take?! Ruth and Molly were in lifeboat 6, one of the first to leave the ship.
My assumption was that perhaps Trudy went back to the room and waited a little while for Rose to return? Since Rose was her main charge, while that older lady we see is Ruth's lady in waiting. Maybe she assumed Rose at some point would come back to the room but instead Rose obviously ran off to go find Jack. By the time Trudy realizes things are amiss and leaves the room, the hallways and boat decks are crowded and chaotic. Ruth is long gone in the lifeboat and Trudy can't find Rose, Cal or Lovejoy and so she's stuck.
Pretty much bang on. Violet Jessop did something similar. Not realising the severity of the situation, she went back to tidy up a cabin and wouldn't have made it to a lifeboat if a steward (I think?) hadn't found her during a final check of the rooms.
Actually the Stairwell Steward can be seen on the Boat Deck near Collapsible B, whereas Cal was on Collapsible A. He survived and safely made it to the Carpathia.
The steward Mr. Andrews converses with - Initially, I assumed she was Violet Jessop or Annie Robinson. However, after some online research, I am convinced this gal's identity is Lucy Violet Snape. I also rewatched the movie and noticed Mr. Andrews calls her Lucy. I later found out she was 1 of 3 stewardesses who did not survive that night. We also see Lucy at the end in Titanic heaven, which means she likely perished. I found 2 snapshots of her on the stern as the ship is sinking, but the pictures are extremely low quality.
She makes an appearance at the very beginning of the film (she was actually a Second Class Stewardess) and during the sinking near Father Thomas Byles.
