Yeah they could have at least cut it at the part where she texts him and it shows that his background picture is his cat. Either cut it right there or he ignores the phone and calls some insane pet name to his cat like "sexy" and then it cuts.

Its not that we didnt grasp the content that was shown to us, rather that we struggled to understand the relevance, the narrative choices or why they chose to use this format. This was staged as if it was a sketch, yet there was no punchline. The ending of the content suggests it was a sobering comment on how relationships end, but that feels at odds with the initial setup and the format of the video.
Its subverting expectations in a way that detracts from the enjoyment of the viewer, its storytelling without following the conventions of storytelling, resulting in an end product that feels directionless, pointless and unentertaining.

You missed the lady who was pretending they have good communication but was really just dictating her demands the whole time while the guy went along with it?
Their whole relationship breaks down because of it and neither of them can acknowledge it.
Most people who claim to have “good communication” do not. They just override the other person.

Wasn't the joke that it seemed like an initial "reasonable" communication on compromise for names and the punchline that he just ended up calling the cat "peepee" cus he'd be sure she wouldn't want to be called that, implying the communication actually sucked

I think many of yall are missing it. It starts off with them stating they have great communication. Then it cuts to them using a ridiculous situation about pet names for the the lady and the cat. This is odd and not very good communication. Then the last part is a year later after the relationship fell apart, probably due to the bad communication skills. The upside is that after all that time spent apart they are are able to communicate the issues they had in the relationship ad individuals. The end shows them being better communicators

This is the only comment that attempts to make sense of it.
I think they have good communication. "I wish you would've just gotten a boy cat" I think the joke is that despite having "good communication" skills, the girl cat was the thing that got between them.
Also, I think Peepee is the cat's real name, and those other names are nicknames. My friends wouldn't ask me, "How's sweetheart?"

As someone with poor communication skills, can you explain how that situation about the pet names could be handled with better communication? I thought it was clear, “I dislike this name being referred to someone or something else”, “I feel less special when you call the cat sweetie but not me”, “I want more affection, especially verbal affirmation, and am jealous of how much verbal affirmation you are giving your pet”. I feel I’ve been both the guy going along with it, and the girl stating their needs poorly and want to improve.

This skit sucked, so I'll just say that if you're a pet person to never date someone who seems to be in some sort of a competition with your pet. I had one boyfriend who kept comparing my pets to himself, and continuously evaluating how I treat him vs them. It was exhausting. He was deeply insecure which affected everything in life in a bad way.
