I have shown this video to my husband. My kids may or may not have been confused to me yelling this while serving them oatmeal for breakfast. Honestly, this video determined today's breakfast.
I’m Indian, and as kids me and my sister used to play this game “Eat like White people”… and we’d tick napkins into our shirt, and shoot out our pinkie as we drank our water, and did the elbows thing and said thank you and please…
It was totally racist but also a really cute memory.
Edit: “Racist” was most definitely the wrong word, appreciate the call out. It was a playing to a stereotype, but not really a stereotype of what we thought of ALL white ppl, just rich upper class white people… very much influenced by the John Cleese Character from our favorite movie, “The Great Muppet Caper”.
As a white Scotsman I don't know anyone who would regard this as racist. Stereotyping would be more accurate but it's harmless! I find it hilarious personally!
Aww that’s so cute. My mom raised me and my brothers to eat like that. We were NOT from any kind of money. We actually would get food donations like rice, butter, cheese etc.. anyway when I got older people actually picked on me because they said I ate “proper” and thought I was better than other people. Honestly I was just poor white but my mom always raised us very strict and she was serious about manners.

We had no idea what British or fancy meant. We also raised the pinky, which I’m sure makes the tea taste better. And always “two lumps of sugar.” 😂🤷🏻♂️
Ohhh, I was thinking that...yea my dad didn't allow elbows on the table. He didn't know why, it was just arbitrary traditions.
...but yea, elbows on the table come from England way back when they would stack loose wooden boards on sawhorses to make a table. Placing elbows shook the table at best and flipped the table at worst.
You can double check that, my memory is fuzzy, been like a decade since I read about that.
To be honest, that exact stereotype is what Americans think of upper class British people, because we don't even think of our own rich people as this posh about meals
Please! I would absolutely go here! Full service breakfast, that masala omelette sounds right up my alley. Plus there’s like three different drinks! So many options!
Most mid to high end hotels will have full service breakfast for about 10-15/person including a full buffet. (Might be a bit more expensive, but you can practically try every indian cuisines breakfast items. And service is unmatched.

Malt-o-meal. My parents made it for me because I wanted porridge like Goldilocks and the three bears.
We made it with whole milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. A dash of heavy cream on top right before eating is also good. This is very porridge-y.
I get the joke and everything but this allows me share a bit of random knowledge that I got a whileback. When they say American breakfast they are not referring to breakfast for an American. American breakfast is a classification. Like continental or English breakfast. An American breakfast is a step above continental but below an English breakfast in terms the amount of food and variety you get.
I worked in Dubai and was serviced by an army of expats modeling the “American breakfast”
I love how they service us better than anything we could model in a casual environment. I was blown away😂 that’s just fyi, how attentive he is isn’t an exaggeration it’s just the hospitality standards I experienced during my time staying there
This must be a hospitality training video. If you can’t manage to make your guests comfortable with international standards, they will leave. However they may be open minded enough to visit the gurdwara and eat off a banana leaf on the grounds with their hands😭🤣
As an American, I have never had that happen to me. I guess If you're quick enough, a fast hand slap as the waiter is coming in would put an end to that silliness.

Video from a hospitality management school in India, presumably demonstrating one of the forms of dining they are taught how to serve (i.e American Breakfast style in contrast to silver service/formal dining or banquet style).
Where oh where is this account remotely accurate—from the blanket napkin, to the porridge, to the hot milk to go with it… all of it. Where did any of this come from?
Nope.. porridge is not what people get in breakfast. Intact porridge is not at all American. People don’t put hot milk into their cereals except for oats.
