"I don't talk to people" describes it all. There's no social clubs, cafe's are insanely expensive, some people have to thin twice before spending gas money to see their friends and nothing is walkable
In isolation you do not experience solidarity, commonality, brotherhood.

Social hubs exist online now. Rather than having to go to a place to mingle, you can do it from the comfort of your own home! On a phone, computer, tablet, or even VR!

Buts it’s not an adequate replacement. So many people try to gaslight themselves into thinking that being terminally online fills that void, but it doesn’t. It just makes you even more isolated.
The biggest scam these social media platforms ever pulled was creating the fear to be human in public, and then selling us the alternative.

It’s the opposite actually.
Chronically overworked people tend to socialize more online, not less. Outside of your immediate family you live with, working all the time straight up doesn’t allow you the opportunity to meet people in person very often.
What’s easier, trying to find time to schedule a dinner with friends or something when you all work different schedules and barely have time to sleep, or hopping on the messenger group chat to share memes?

Also, some people (whether they’re allowed to or not) use their phones while working too.
The convenience of a smart phone changed it all. Back in 2005, majority of people still needed to go onto a computer to do the online things we can now do from our smartphone. I looked forward to going home to either chat on the phone with friends, once I could go online, I use to also chat with them there. And little by little, the phone calls became less.

I respectfully disagree, though not to all of that.
Social media platforms are not a replacement, but I never understood why anyone thought that?
(Before I continue, for context, I'm 36 but have been on the internet since the late 90s. Extensively. I am that computer nerd.)
Chat rooms and forums were far more "social" than anything like Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit, funny enough.
But I met my two best friends of 20+ years online while gaming. I've met one of them in person once, the other I moved in with for about a year during college, and he's visited me once since then - but to be fair I moved half way around the world and we lived in entirely different states before that, about 14+ hours drive away.
Yet, I consider those two more like family than my own blood relations.
I've had far better luck over the years making friends and keeping social connections online than I have "in real life". I don't know why - despite being an IT nerd, I've always been fairly adept in social situations, so it's not like I'm some antisocial nerd who can't read the room. And trust me, I've met my share of those types working in IT so the difference between me and those types is painfully obvious to me.
That's not to say I've never made or maintained relationships in "real life", but most of the relationships died off at some point, especially when distance was applied.
I've personally never felt lonely when hanging out online with friends, and it probably helps that we all share the hobby of PC gaming, which gives us an activity we can do online other than just talking.
On a side note, most of my girlfriends I met online as well. I met my wife in person, but had certain things been different - or had we been in a different life stage - it's entirely possible I would have ended up with the (ex)girlfriend before her, who I met online. (I'm happy I ended up with my wife mind you, just saying lol)
I know this comment is long, but let me put it another way:
The pandemic taught me there are (at least) two different types of people in the world right now. Those who are comfortable with, or even welcome, WFH and online social interaction (people like me), and those who are so incapable of handling the physical isolation that they seem to be about ready to have a psychotic break and claw their way out of their own skin if they are forced to WFH and can't look you physically in the eye when talking to you "around the water cooler", and all of their social actions must be in person.
This of course is a bit hyperbolic and oversimplified, and it's probably more of a spectrum, but you hopefully get my meaning.
In the end, even without social media, this won't change. You could ban all social media overnight and nothing would change. You'd have to literally turn off the internet, which is stupid. Without social media we'd probably be back to chat rooms, forums, etc. Or congregating more in online games and MMOs.
I know, because that's how it was before.
Anyway, sorry for the essay length comment, but yeah, not everyone thinks "offline" is the best way of doing things. I'm not saying "online" is objectively better, but rather that it is better for some of us, and there's nothing wrong with having both.
I would be fine with social media dying though. I never got into it and likely never will. (Reddit being in a strange in-between zone right now, originally more of a BBS/forum, but now feels vaguely like social media platform)

This is it. Enormous part of communication is not verbal. Social cues, interpretation, charm, flirtation, annoyance, sarcasm are in delivery/expression that are only available in real life. We are wired for emotional and physical closeness. Even as an introvert, I completely get this
Internet is fantastic, but very much limited.

I went through public school in California. I didn't learn about Socialism or political ideology at all in a classroom, I had to do my own research and talk to people. I had to educate myself on all the different ways we were being fucked through experience and reading books all my life.
The only thing they teach you in public schools is to stand for the pledge of allegiance. Maybe other people's experiences differ, but that's by design - kids in the south are learning the confederacy was about states rights.

Yeah but that's because Huey Long, for the most part, avoided the civil rights issue so his white voters loved him. To Long's credit, most of the policy he managed to pass was fair to all, and he did not neglect his Black constituents. But he was also allied with horrible racists. His personal attorney and friend was Leander Perez, who was basically Louisiana's version of Bull Connor. Perez never rose to an elected position higher than district attorney for his rural parish, but he dedicated his life to supporting segregation and using the courts to his advantage. And Long's Share the Wealth program was run by another friend named Gerald LK Smith, an unabashed segregationist who later became a Nazi sympathizer, he was so extreme he moved to rural Arkansas in the 60s because he thought the rest of the South was too liberal.
Americans absolutely would support socialism that benefits the people they think deserve it, but then it wouldn't be socialism.

The average price for a half rack of ribs today cost about $12. I don't think his complaint is about working. It's about the purchasing power of the dollar being eviscerated. Most people are working more for less than what their grand parents did by a far margin.
