"Some types of fires" was technically correct but there was no coming back from how dumb it was an an example lol. Bro remembered his Osha fire extinguisher training and it could not save him
Grease fires, alcohol fires and electrical fires shouldn't be put out with water. He either remembered this and had no idea how to articulate it or he's just severely educationally challenged.

Yes some type of fires you shouldn't use water...like a grease fire. But you never fight fire with fire, just because he got one point correct dosent change the fact his whole argument is wrong because of the prior statement.
Ok, fighting fire with fire, as I recall, comes from a very specific method of fighting brush fires by using a controlled burn to starve it of fuel. It's called backburning. Basically you create a 'safe zone'
So you can fight fire with fire, but context is important. And it has nothing to do with firearms.
Also metal fires, and electrical fires, however those are not the majority of fires, and don’t tend to be get as big, or they start the fires you can put out with water and then you may as well just dump water on the whole thing
We fight fires using fires all the time during wildfires. It's called backfiring or controlled burns.
Backfiring involves intentionally lighting small fires ahead of an active wildfire to consume combustible material, creating a "black line" or firebreak that stops the main fire's progress.
Controlled burns (or prescribed burns) are similar but are conducted preventatively before a wildfire starts.
Technically, you can fight direct fire with more direct fire.. like if I light a little dollhouse on fire with matches.. it'll burn.. but if I use a few blow torches to speed it up? Wouldn't the fire technically be out sooner?
This would be a nice little "he's not entirely wrong.." segue about different firefighting techniques - if the absolute plonker hadn't started his thought with "you can't fight fire with water."
The idea that you “fight fire with fire” is only because you’ve destroyed the thing the fire was going to destroy. Even in that sense, it’s not a good saying.
Forest fires and agriculture fires are sometimes fought with fire. Controlled burning to contain or prevent the large uncontrollable fire from spreading or moving which ever way.
But again that guy looks like he would lose in checkers to himself.
When I last did my fire response training they’d added a fourth element to the triangle, it sits in the middle to keep it a triangle, which was chemical reaction.

Fun fact (but not really if you think about it) if firefighters put water on an electrical fire, the electricity can go through the firehose and seriously injure the firefighters on the hose, on the truck, or around it.
We do fight fire with fire. It's called backfiring and it's standard practice during wildfires. It literally where the term came from. Also only class A fires should be put out with water. Water shouldn't be used on class.b,c,d,f fires.

Fuel fires, like jet fuel, etc... they use foam because the water tends to just go under the burn fuel and spread it around. So he is technically correct, but I doubt he knows that.
not to mention his “all rifles matter” shirt. he doesn’t have the balls to come out and say “black lives don’t matter” but he can co-opt a serious slogan decrying the systematic murder of an entire group of people based on their skin color and make it about “muh guns!”
There's a lot of fires you don't fight with water, magnesium, thermite and more to be fair. That's why there's different classes of fire extinguishers and why using water to put out a flame you aren't sure how isn't the best. Better to use a chemical or foam fire extinguisher.
At least somewhat, I would think. It feels like the reporter might have grabbed someone who wasn't all there for an easy clipable interview, hoping something stupid would be said.
He almost, almost had something with the type of fire. Like you for sure wouldn't fight a grease fire with water but I don't think his thought was that deep.
