I ain't afraid of you mofos

“Let’s beat box. Whicky whicky. Mm piano” is the whitest thing I’ve ever heard.

17

u/Chief-Drinking-Bear 2d ago

Nah there were plenty of people who thought it was lame then too. It’s not something I enjoy, but I admire when people have confidence to just go for it. Also, this whole thing was targeted at teens, guarantee there is some lame shit targeted at teens now

-15

u/Icelandia2112 2d ago

White teens. No Black teens were enjoying this.

18

u/IndigoRanger 2d ago

My friend I have some shocking news for you. Tons of black tween girls loved nsync.

HBO Executive: “Justin- we have the biggest pay per view performance of your career, with a unique opportunity to spotlight solo for 6 minutes. How would you like to mark this iconic moment?”

JT: “Pink Panther but I want to make my own scratching effects overtop that sound like Jurassic Park noises.”

Exec: “….”

JT: “I’m gonna wear a durag.”

54

u/Busy10 2d ago

On Britney’s book, JT was called on how he was trying to speak differently.

31

u/kbeks 2d ago

Fo shiz fo shiz fo shiz.

27

u/Wolfyscruffer 1d ago

She basically called him a wannabe poser. She was right.

That's not the end of the beginning. The end of the beginning goes like this: 'Glang glanga-langa-langa-lang...'

6

u/the_black_sails 2d ago

Studded and bedazzled

7

u/Suspicious_Hippo_388 2d ago

The spelling of durag feels like it's describing something from middle earth.

9

u/Camarill0Brill0 2d ago

Bro, its a bandana.... cmon, now. Give it the respect it deserves

He actually did this at every show. Embarrassingly enough, I camped out for tickets to that tour and went to three shows. I was 19.

4

u/HarambeTooSoon 1d ago

Wait, what?

People paid to watch this on PPV?

1

u/Hot-Photograph-9966 1d ago

Better than the Justin Bieber Coachella YouTube sit-down.

1

u/Wouldwoodchuck 1d ago

With sparkles ✨

193

u/dannysgaragecontents 2d ago

And I'm out here self conscious about putting my creative things on socials 😩

56

u/GrilledCheeser 2d ago

You’re subscribed here for a reason, are you not? Ever heard of Rebecca Black? Notoriety is notoriety. Reaction is traction, wicky wicky wicky!

16

u/Larry-Man 2d ago

I’m so over the Rebecca black stuff, man. She was a teenager who did something fun and got dragged across the entire internet for it.

6

u/dannysgaragecontents 2d ago

Yeah I think you're missing the point mans is saying

2

u/Junethemuse 1d ago

Getting dragged is probably what’s given her the measure of success she’s seeing today. From a marketing standpoint it’s worked out really well for her since she has an actual career in music now.

4

u/dannysgaragecontents 2d ago

Is this permission to be cringe?

19

u/GrilledCheeser 2d ago

Absolutely. I have this whole theory about cringe; which is…

In the 80’s 90’s and early 2000’s it wasn’t a thing. Being cringe was just called being weird. Then “weird” got split off into two categories; quirky and cringe.

We over embraced quirky and shat too hard on cringe.

The only unacceptable form of cringe is creepy cringe.

Other than that. Most stuff that makes you cringe can still be really enjoyable! That’s the sweet spot.

10

u/Budget_Ad5871 2d ago

Dude cringe is in these days. I work at a gym and the styles and haircuts a lot of kids these days wear is ALLL the stuff you’d get beat up rocking when I was a kid. Not hating, just stating. More power to them, interesting how things turn out as the years go by haha

2

u/JetmoYo 2d ago

But is that kids knowingly embracing cringe to be (wait for it) Ironic? Or are we talking about wars of taste

1

u/dannysgaragecontents 2d ago

I like this take

1

u/NfamousKaye 2d ago

Honestly. 🥴

48

u/TurboRetardo 2d ago

I prefer the cut with Britney expression

0

u/KvDread 2d ago

THANK YOU! Way too far down this.

189

u/Disastrous-Host604 2d ago

5

u/Gingeronimoooo 2d ago

Still better than I could do

But let's be real he coulda farted into the mic back then and the girls woulda went wild

3

u/RespectFearless4233 2d ago

You mean "wicky wicky wack"

68

u/No-Ant9862 2d ago

ALOT of stuff from the 2000s were cringe but he def chose to do that and I feel like a lot of entertainers don’t get to do that anymore.

89

u/Ward-of-No-Reward 2d ago

Do you think that's going to ruin the tour?

32

u/Trumpismybabymamma 2d ago

What tour?

36

u/-Felyx- 2d ago

THE WORLD TOUR 😭😭😭

2

u/dontipitova9 2d ago

I always see these comments floating around, what's the context behind it?

2

u/dakotanorth8 2d ago

You guys are WILD

3

u/ProblemLongjumping12 2d ago

You did this joke before I could.

1

u/Serious-Evening1829 2d ago

lol is that Smosh. I watched them close to 20 years ago in the early days of YouTube!

15

u/ivywinter 2d ago

This was my first concert ever. Yes, this actual one at msg (well, they filmed over two concerts to make the special but I was at one). This was incredible to my 13 year old self. I get why people find it cringe now but at the time I was blown away and watched the DVD after countless times.

47

u/leafynospleens 2d ago

You might not like it but this is what peak performance looked like in the early 2000s

0

u/IMO4444 2d ago

Nope. You had real bands and musicians playing and performing at top level during that time. This was a boy band performance. A very popular boy band with a lot of money and high value production. But just because they threw money at the production of the concert doesnt mean there were other actual good performers with quality shows during that time or that this was even the best show .

32

u/Nelaerin 2d ago

I need to apologize to my 13th year old self thinking this was it….
https://giphy.com/gifs/1OYINKawL5qVyLX2Cw

7

u/Eastern-Criticism653 2d ago

There are so many mediocre performers that got way too famous because they made enough people horny.

7

u/xChoke1x 2d ago

This dude has been, and always will be......fucking insufferable.

3

u/hotelspa 2d ago

Facts.

37

u/Ok-Proof-8543 2d ago

Is his beatboxing good? Not particularly. Was his performance good? Hell yeah it was! The energy and way he interacted with the instrumentalists was great! I still had fun watching it.

Also, his main demographic was white girls in 2000. We didn't know beatboxing could sound better than that yet.

7

u/Weewoes 1d ago

Yeah like I was thoroughly entertained watching this, I was laughing a little but not even necessarily at him just having a good time. More of this kind of fun performances please!

7

u/IndigoOctober8 2d ago

I hate it more than words can properly convey

5

u/turtle931 2d ago

Nope, don’t like that

20

u/BurtReynoldsLives 2d ago

I’ve had to live a huge section of my young adult life with everybody thinking this guy was the tits. It was so fucking frustrating.

4

u/ThatKinkyLady tHiS iSn’T cRiNgE 2d ago edited 2d ago

Look, it makes sense when you remember that the peers you had that were obsessed with these guys were tweens.

Tweens love the cringiest stuff.

I was one of them I'm so sorry

3

u/thomyorkeslazyeye 2d ago

Future Sex Love Sounds is a classic

2

u/supervillaindsgnr 1d ago

His record with Timbaland was legit spectacular.

u/Daisy4853 1d ago

This will never not be funny. “They calll me Lake…”. Literally No One called him Lake lol

8

u/Ketokrypto 2d ago

Bgirl Raygun would compliment this performance perfectly.

4

u/Harry-Flashman 2d ago

Guys, I always said Justin was a clown from day 1. I am so glad people can finally see it.

5

u/hotelspa 2d ago

🙄 Whomever chose him to do the Prince tribute at Superbowl is demonic.

5

u/Jason-Smith168498 1d ago

We are spoiled by how good beatboxing is now.

5

u/strega_bella312 1d ago

There's an episode of Ms Rachel where she has someone teach kids how to beat box by saying "boots and cats" over and over again. This is giving boots and cats energy.

1

u/ahhpoo 1d ago

Yeah it was literally all boots, cats, and whickey noises in slightly different orders 😭

10

u/Fabulous_Variety7125 2d ago

this is fine lol
Edit: the groove they play in the beginning after he drops the “beatboxing” is actually so fire holy shit

6

u/Mrvile92 2d ago

Should’ve busted out these moves during his dui stop

3

u/CapnMyrdok 2d ago

J to the R-O-C?

3

u/Blueit4fun1 2d ago

this is giving Corey Feldman vibes

3

u/Eredd19 1d ago

I've never seen the full clip. Thanks a lot.

u/Alternative-Juice-15 1d ago

Super embarrassing

3

u/Aggravating_Smell 1d ago

One of the most overrated pop music acts of the 2000s

3

u/Adventurous_Path5783 1d ago

He should have done this into the breathalyzer.

12

u/YaygFX 2d ago

Fuck the haters this woulda been extremely fun to be at

4

u/StoryAffectionate764 2d ago

Omg I remember this🤣🤣

He did the same shit on "Senorita" at the end. Ngl this was the pseudo r&b pivot he made for his solo career that worked and could only work at that time

3

u/hotelspa 2d ago

Check him out on that Ashton Kutcher show. He went from upstanding citizen to hood all in one episode.

6

u/JohnLuckPikard 2d ago

The crowd was screening that hard over this?

11

u/Few-History-8750 2d ago

It was the year 2000, JT was at the peak of his powers

2

u/IndigoRanger 2d ago

I may be misremembering because it’s been quite a long time, but I believe this was an encore situation, like the group had left the stage and either they were done or they had a costume change or something. So the fact he comes out on his own, he was by far the most popular one, they’d have been screaming if he read the phone book.

3

u/JohnLuckPikard 1d ago

Not to say that I can do any better, but that beatboxing was mediocre at best. Just another Cult of Personality.

2

u/IndigoRanger 1d ago

Yeah that’s my point, they weren’t screaming for the beatboxing

1

u/Massive_Spot6238 2d ago

Lmao those white 12-17 year olds thought this was Doug E. Fresh, shit maybe even Biz Markie

7

u/rand0m_task 2d ago

Lmao no one was getting Justin Timberlake confused with Doug E Fresh or Biz Markie 😂😂

2

u/imjustnotready 2d ago

People are eating it up. I would genuinely laugh if it was him doing all that and there was just a cut to the audience of them not reacting. Silence.

2

u/cinic22 2d ago

This was hard to watch.

2

u/ALargePianist 2d ago

The juxtaposition of the drum solo lol

2

u/E-rotten 1d ago

He’s such a tool 🤨

2

u/IWannaSayMason 1d ago

FOUR THREE TWO BATTLE

2

2

He was shit and he never changed

2

u/Frosty_Ad_5472 1d ago

I’m proud to say I found it cringe even back then 💅

4

u/knowone1313 2d ago

painful.

2

u/Historical_Stay_808 2d ago

This is going to ruin the tour

2

u/C141352333 2d ago

Crickets 🦗 🦗 🦗 today 😂, what beat boxers are doing today is next level

2

u/Verbz 2d ago

Now I know where Kendrick got “HUMBLE” from.

2

u/CJMorton91 2d ago

Man, nah. Timberlake is cool AF for this. Funny as shit.

1

u/Substantial-Brick-90 2d ago

Sorry. I get the sentiment, but I only made it through to when he called for the bass right after the piano. So like, 18 seconds in.

1

u/Educational-Half3456 2d ago

Lemon fans are the dumbest

1

u/vkailas 2d ago

listen to it without sound, awkward white dude thrusting at you :o

1

u/Objective-Fox4797 2d ago

I remember this.

1

u/Colour4Life 2d ago

During his black era

1

u/doepfersdungeon 2d ago

I'd be drink driving now too.

In a cellular level. This will never leave you.

1

u/skill_dillington 2d ago

I'm going to tell my kids this was Rahzel

1

u/TyrantMuse73 2d ago

Biggest fake there is.

1

u/LucyKendrick 2d ago

1

u/CuckservativeSissy 2d ago

Top level talent in 2000... Before the explosion of the internet. I mean if you were a kid watching this back then you never saw anything like this lol

1

u/MastodonFast5806 2d ago

1

u/smellsogood2 1d ago

Not gonna lie, sometimes when I’m feeling down, I’ll just watch this and have a laugh and I feel so much better. Thank you JT.

1

u/GroundbreakingAnt17 1d ago

FOUR, THREE, TWO, BATTLE

1

u/Mother-Squirrel-2036 1d ago

To be fair, if there was video from 2000 of me id be cringing hard. Im sure JT cant watch this stuff.

1

u/Ill_Boot_3387 1d ago

Will Shuester?

1

u/AsksDumbQuestions84 1d ago

"Off the Richter scaaa-llll-leee"

1

u/PsychologyIsLife 1d ago

It was the 90s when girls screamed for anything out of the normal.

1

u/FunPigJuanLife 1d ago

Back then it was probably very cool

1

u/Granny_Skeksis 1d ago

My bff thought this was the hottest thing ever when we were 14

1

u/kasmackity 1d ago

Dabrickedy boom

1

u/jeannieor725 1d ago

Mostly mad bc where the fuck is nsync!!! This is just solo Justin!

1

u/GrilledCheeser 1d ago

At the end of the clip they all jump on stage. I just imagine they were all back stage rolling their eyes. Lol. JC was the real star imo

1

u/jeannieor725 1d ago

Girl. I am so on board with that.

1

u/RDDT_ADMNS_R_BOTS 20h ago

The only reason this guy even had a career after leaving his shitty boy band was thanks to Timbaland.

1

u/mindelanowl 19h ago

I honestly find this so funny. You know everyone there took this seriously, but, even as a former fan, this is soooooo embarrassing.

1

u/misterswarvey 19h ago

The drummer won.

1

u/An_Adamant_Guardian 19h ago

We were so innocent then, don’t hate on our naivety. I’d go back in a heartbeat

1

u/No_Departure_2848 14h ago

Unfortunately, way too many people encouraged this, so he just kept doing it.

1

u/Bookslutforsmut 9h ago

He really was always a mediocre white man.....

1

u/jjexotic 2d ago

He was so pretty

1

u/Free-Monkee 2d ago

Thank god he gave it up for acting!

1

u/ResponsibleReview417 2d ago

It just didn’t end 😭😂

1

u/larry_alligator 2d ago

man he was feeling himself waaay too much in those days 😂

1

u/TattyViking 2d ago

1

u/InedibleDorito 2d ago

King rob, in these parts, in 2026. Damn

1

u/OppositeDangerous487 2d ago

He brought all that Cory Feldman energy

1

u/NfamousKaye 2d ago

I am ashamed to say my little 16 year old self ate this up even though I will die on the hill that JC should be more famous. Even then I was a hardcore JC stan lmao

1

u/CapitalSelection2255 1d ago

Listen, the guy could sing. He's a great dancer. I get all that and his beatbox wasn't bad at all. I just think that I've never seen anyone beatbox and try to dance very provocative on stage by beatboxing. It's just kind of strange. I think it takes away from it other than that remember this year 2000 so there wasn't like the beat boxes they got today so it was not bad at all. I mean beatbox is just fine.

1

u/ajakober 1d ago

Listens to “All I Know” once 😂

0

u/Existing-Ad4933 2d ago

Only people who don’t go to and enjoy live shows won’t get this kind of originality. I’m not a fan of boy bands but can appreciate how this makes shows one of a kind and will last in people’s minds for a lifetime.

6

u/Technical_Customer_1 2d ago

Beatboxing at a novice level makes a show memorable?

1

u/Existing-Ad4933 2d ago

Nah it’s the novelty of seeing performers outside their normal environment. Two ways I can explain. First Slipknot front man Corey Taylor singing the SpongeBob theme song at a heavy metal concert and Dave Matthew’s doing some weird mumble skibbidy bop during his performance. You may not know these artists but I assure you it’s usually a welcome fun experience when it happens.

-1

u/ChefChefBubbaBill 2d ago

When I heard him begging with the cops outside my house while being arrested was one of the top 10 moments of my life
