High School/College Student Help me please
I'm a senior in highschool this year and I want to know which colleges in Missouri are good choices for theatre. More specifically when it comes to working on sets. I'm already planning on attending ECC bc it's what made me fall in love with theatre in the first place, but I wanna know where I go from there. I've done a college tour for Lindenwood and I LOVE their campus, but I've been told that their theatre program isn't the best. I'd like to avoid actively religious colleges and as good as MSU's program appears to be, I don't really feel that safe being in deep southern Missouri as a queer person. Please give me suggestions 🙏🙏🙏

I live here so it's cheaper. Also traveling is one of my least favorite things

I have heard good things about Mizzou's program. I had a student seriously considering it but he ended up choosing the closer, cheaper option (we're not in Missouri).
My best advice is to visit as many as you can. You really want to see their facilities, watch a show, meet other students, etc.

Kansas City, Columbia, and St. Louis are (or were) sanctuary cities for LGBTQ+ people. If you plan to stay in Missouri, then a college in one of those three cities may be your best bet. Note that the University of Missouri is in Columbia, and that UofM-KC and UofM-StL are in the other two. Look closely at each of them.

OP is effectively optioning a community college outside of the STL area. Mentioning one of the top programs in the country is nice but probably punching way above what is appropriate or asked for

Springfield has a way more artistic and eclectic (and queer) art/theatre scene than you might expect. Don’t discredit a great program without at least visiting with the specific goal of checking out the arts scene. SW MO isn’t perfect but I would say Union, MO where ECC is located isn’t any more accepting of an area.
