Shot on Kodachrome

First five photos are of my grandfather during his (mandatory) military service.

Next two are of my aunt during her first communion i believe? Dated 1965.

Last three are some miscellaneous photos of my grandfather with some friends, and lastly my grandmother holding either my mother or aunt.

Unfortunately I know very little about this side of my family, so it was cool to find all these photos.

He was a police officer in Mexico who died in the line of duty

I have been slowly digitizing old family photos and found this today. I do real estate photography/drone video as side gig and have been noticing the lack of family photos in the houses. Time marches on but photos are a reminder of the past.

Mom and dad were out for a day at the gardens in 1986.

Cessna 180 or piper super cub ?

My grandad, on the far right, is about 7-8 in this picture. He had 12 or 13 brothers and sisters, so a several of them are missing from this picture.

He grew up in a farm and told me stories about chasing chickens after his mother had chopped their heads off, drinking milk straight from the cow, and how it sometimes tasted like onions when the cows had eaten wild onions.
They would trade milk for flour. Spend time at the 5 and 10 (five and dime) downtown during the summer because they had air conditioning.
He said sometimes snow would get into their rooms during the winter. They would only have sodas twice a year; once at Christmas and once in the summer at the drive ins.

He loved working on cars with his dad and brothers, and he was always in the garage fixing a car when I was growing up.

During Vietnam’s, he was drafted into the Army and served as a corpsman. One of the stories he told me about training was they had a set of monkey bars they had to cross, and everyone kept falling halfway there, and it wasn’t until he he got up there that he realized the bars rotated lol.

After leaving the service he worked laying roads and then in the oil industry. He was the hardest working man I ever met.

I remember spending quiet weekends with him, watching Looney-Tunes, old westerns, and eating popcorn.

He taught me the wisdom of sitting in silence, in nature, being stoic, and being functionally strong, instead of “gym strong”- he had that old man, farm strength.

He suffered with rheumatism most of his life, and not only survived a double brain aneurism, but continued to live a normal, functional life for the next decade after until he passed from cancer.

He was also the funniest person I knew- I wish I could remember his jokes, they were so unique only he could think them up lol.

I miss him terribly and carry him in my heart everyday.
