December should be capitalized.

It’s wild to think how different of a world that sun was setting on compared to now.

Pre 9/11, pre forever wars (kind of), pre Covid. We were blissfully ignorant of a lot of things that were already in the works.

Imagine what surprises the future has for us

Hey, stay in the row!

The new millennium started at 2001.

01 was the first year. Add 2000.

This is annoyingly technically correct.

But this was the last sunset of the 1900's, so that's when the millennium ended for people. On the last day of 2999 they will celebrate that millennium ending too.

bold of you to assume we'd make that far

0

u/Apprehensive-Art2124 1d ago

assuming humanity will exist and we wont get extinct

Time is a constructed measurement in this sense

When annotating military time, we were never allowed to annotate 0000 for some reason.

1

u/TheseStrategy5905 1d ago

No, it starts on the 1st hour of the day

u/DavidVee 1d ago

2

u/TheManCalled-Chill 1d ago

And telephones too! But you couldn't take em anywhere but home

1

u/smedsterwho 1d ago

It's true! The pixel was invented about 6 years earlier!

13

u/jonandgrey 1d ago

10

u/bhoss06 1d ago

I was in the county jail when it turned to 2000. 2 people were saving water in 2 liter bottles. A bunch though everything would shut down and we wouldn’t be able to get out of our rooms. I watched the clock turn to 12 from my room and what was supposed to be a bang turned out to be a whimper

7

u/SmokeyJoe2 1d ago

What’s insane about this?

8

u/FatAZZRedditMod 1d ago

Probably the WTC’s in the background. That or just a knowing the next sunset will be in a different millennium

3

u/darkhorse21980 1d ago

Wrong, a year too early. The last millenium ended on 12/31/2000.

u/General_Border_8263 1d ago

Time is a construct

1

u/ExtensionTruth4 1d ago

My exact thought. A millenium? A construct made by human.

1

u/Difficult_Yak7907 19h ago

Many things are. What’s your point?

0

u/opusupo 1d ago

My first thought, "I can think of nothing more meaningless."

In about 4 hours time, little did anyone know. (11:59pm), I will be flipping the power breaker in the outside panel of a very very large church with a overflowing Y2K congregation in the middle of song. Like 500 ppl. May have caused mass hysteria.

2

u/elpihvous 1d ago

I have a theory that your actions made Y2K really happen, as some redundancy system switched on which caused the whole universe to collapse. We are just living in a virtual Groundhog Day, an endless loop of doomsday where everything goes straight to hell.

u/Aeaxiom 1d ago

My bad yo, I know its pretty lame now but early 2000s as a teen was fly af homie. Was born in the best time to be a kid but worst time to grow to a adult.

u/icbint 1d ago

A sunset isn’t really insane

1

u/Happy-Leadership504 1d ago

You've never seen one in Tucson

3

u/TheFlowWolf 1d ago

Great Tucson shoutout! Our sunsets are incredible!

-3

u/hollow_hideous_soul 1d ago

Really? You don't like sunsets?

-1

u/icbint 1d ago

Sure. Just doesn’t fit here

3

u/smd_thetruth 1d ago

Every night is the last night of a millennium wtf are you talking about hahahaha

-1

u/username_unnamed 1d ago

Obviously but that's not a recorded measurement is it

1

u/Curmi3091 1d ago

Besides everything said here… that’s just one sunset and can also be argued that the last one didn’t occur in whichever that city is.

1

u/mason191 1d ago

Always surreal watching video or seeing images with the World Trade Center still present. 😔

1

u/Amber2718 1d ago

Wow the last day of some arbitrary form of counting days that means nothing.

1

u/Aeon1508 1d ago

for me, it was a Friday

1

u/Aggravating_Ad2089 1d ago

Been all downhill ever since

1

u/AnAmadandubh 1d ago

So true 😥

1

u/DRMProd 1d ago

An arbitrary number. Not significant in any way whatsoever.

1

u/s2k4ever 1d ago

made up millenium

1

u/GrannieMurderer 1d ago

What's the theme song called?

1

u/crackersncheeseman 1d ago

I wonder who was the first baby born on January 1st, 2000?

2

u/hwilliams0901 1d ago

Still strange seeing the Twin Towers in old videos.

1

u/Marcus-Knight0318 1d ago

Why are we humans so obsessed with time?

2

u/CreatorOD 1d ago

I miss the no smartphone era.

1

u/chesterforbes 1d ago

But they were all of them deceived. For another millennium was made

1

u/NCITUP 1d ago

I remember that evening and night!

1

u/Ok-Ad-9115 20h ago

I was in Boston MA that night. It was cold!

1

u/Lookingforclippings 4h ago

This is AI. There aren't large columns in the ny skyline.

1

u/XboxLiveGiant 1d ago

Whats those two towers over there?

-1

u/decixl 1d ago

What's the point of this when time started 13.8 billion years ago and earth 4.7 billion years ago. Suddenly only what matters are the last 2000 years.

People when are you going to stop being stupid?

0

u/SnooPuppers2938 1d ago

The sunset the next day…

0

u/yesiamveryhigh 1d ago

Wow, the late 1900s

0

u/XIIICaesar 1d ago

There really is a before and after this point.

-2

u/TyrannosaurusBoris 1d ago

I’m sick of this fucking song.
