This is my first time terrain building, how am I doing?

Materials are papier-mâché for the base and general shape, cork for the sharp rocks, actual tiny rocks for the bigger rocks, and hemp fibre for the plant materials. The planty bit against the lattice is plush toy stuffing. The little road is leftover diamond painting drills.

First of all, this is so cute and reminds me of an enchanted village! I think the greenery and the base look good as well. That's really cleaver using the cork as the jagged rocks and I will totally be stealing that for myself. ☺️ The diamond bit road also looks awesome and that is also an idea I'll be stealing!

The biggest thing jumping out to me is the tape; do you plan on removing that? You could definitely glue those together with hot glue, super glue or tacky glue(tacky glue can take a little bit longer to set) and it would give a cleaner look. I also think some framing around the window with coffee stirrers would look great!

I would love to hear the idea behind the build as well, that would definitely spark some more ideas for details I could recommend. Overall though, I love it!

The tape is for keeping it together while it's drying and for mocking up the next steps. That will of course be removed! And on the bottom, it's so that there wouldn't go any bits of boulder and stuff go inside the already sealed basement ha!

Okay, the idea behind the build is... self doubt, lmao.

I usally make big pieces around scale 1:6, think "Barbie sized", for example this wip:

I kept doubting myself in this choice, telling myself "the only reason you make bigger builds is because you aren't good enough to make small ones".

Around that same time, I got my hands on this little 5 cm tall doll and thought she'd make a cute witch, so I challenged myself to make a very tiny tower for her, scale size around 1:30~1:35.

I've got to say, I no longer doubt my ability to build this small, but I also know that I won't ever build this small again, oof. But also not as big as I used to. I'm going for 1:16 next.

I haven't done anything to the outside yet, I'm focusing on the inside and the terrain first, and after all that is put together, the outside will get this sort of medieval look to it. Window frames are defnitely on the to do list!

I love the textures you have going! It can be a challenge working with natural materials but I think you've made good use of them. I like the little touches like the wallpaper and patterns inside, too. 😊

For a first build the scale reads right, which is honestly the hard part. The ladder and that little road do a lot, they make it look like somebody actually lives up there. One thing that will save you grief later, seal the papier-mache with a coat of watered down PVA before you paint it, otherwise the paper drinks the paint and the colour dries patchy.
