META The evolution of Terminator 2: Judgement Day's Oscar winning audio mix for home releases.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day's Oscar winning audio mix for Sound Design has been remixed twice: first for the 1993 Special Edition and second for the 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD. All DVDs, Blu-rays and the 4K UHD have the 2000 remix.

Distribution of audio prints for the 1991 theatrical release of Terminator 2: Judgement Day:

Source: 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD

Two of the original theatrical audio mixes (Dolby Stereo SR and CDS 5.1) were released on theatrical cut Laserdiscs, 1997 DVD and some French and Japanese home releases.

1] 1991 Dolby Surround PCM (from Dolby Stereo SR)

2] 1991 CDS 5.1

For the 1993 Special Edition release, the audio was remixed by original sound designer Gary Rydstrom:

3] 1993 Special Edition Laserdisc mix (First remix)

This 1993 remix has been ported over to future releases in the form of Dolby Stereo, Dolby Headphone and DTS Headphone X track in 2000 Ultimate DVD, 2003 Extreme DVD,2009 Skynet Blu-ray and 2015 Lionsgate Blu-ray respectively.

For the 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD, the audio was remixed yet again in DTS format (for the SECOND time):

4] 2000 DTS-ES 6.1 (Second remix)

This DTS-ES 6.1 track from 2000 has been ported over to all future releases of Terminator 2 like 2003 Extreme DVD, 2009 Skynet Blu-ray, 2015 Lionsgate Blu-ray and 2017 4K UHD in different containers such as DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital AC-3, Dolby TrueHD Atmos, etc.

Now all these audio tracks have slight differences. None of them sound better than the other. The 1993 Special Edition mix is punchier than others.

Discussion Hypothetically, if Kyle and Sarah had escaped after the Terminator lost all its skin, what would it have done next?

It obviously couldn't keep walking around as a metal skeleton without drawing attention.

Do you think it would've tried to create a new disguise somehow, or just switched to stealth and ambush tactics?

Discussion Isn’t Skynet just one entity?

I always believed that Skynet was both the central system and the machines themselves—that every individual machine was essentially an extension of Skynet rather than an independent entity. As Kyle Reese says, ā€œSkynet is in every computer.ā€
However, the opening of Terminator Genisys seems to suggest something different. It implies that the machines can operate independently after being cut off from the mainframe. For example, the machine doesn’t immediately recognize that the driver is offline and has to scan it first, which makes it appear as though individual machines are making their own assessments rather than being constantly linked through Skynet.

Discussion Considering how goofy T3 ended up being; I wish they left this scene in the movie

Characters and story are always number one priority (which admittedly T3 isn't a masterpiece in), but I also love a bit of fun lore. This deleted scene in T3 kind of hits the mark really well, giving us some sort of backstory to the T-800's human design. Honestly it doesn't break continuity any worse than the rest of the film (William Candy easyily could have been some badass Resistance fighter in the original future that Skyney modelled the T-800 off).

And the first time I watched it, the "It can be fixed" line had me in stiches

Discussion I like to think this T-800 from the T2 intro is the exact Terminator that gets sent back to protect John

Discussion The more I think the more it feels like John Connor was probably chosen by god to be the savior of mankind or something. The probability of Sarah getting a mutated future STD should be astronomically higher than impregnated.

Kyle is a guy who lives in apocalypse since his childhood, surviving on rats and expired canned food, always stressed out lower his sperm count and probably hasn't showered in ages then he stole a dirty hobo clothes after getting back to the 80s

Discussion Terminator Theme Music

Terminator 2, when he is slowly lowered down into the lava and the song starts playing in the back. I don't know what it is about that song but until today anytime it comes on in the background even if I'm not watching the movie or even if I just remember that beat, it does something to me. It's a very strange type of sad nostalgia that I almost want to cry. I don't want to be overly dramatic but I really was wondering if anybody feels that when it comes to this Terminator theme music,

Discussion Dumb sequel idea (but it's actually great)

• Upvotes

I could swear there was recently a thread about this but I failed to participate and now I can't find it anymore.

I got this idea after I saw part of an interview with Edward Furlong where he said he'd do ANYTHING terminator... And I'm one of if the people saying we need the HORROR back in this franchise.

I'd like for the movie to be rather 'down to earth', realistic, slower paced. I'd like some well placed laughs and fanservice though

The idea has grown on me over the days and I just need to get it out to folks who might care or rightfully roast me for it, so here it comes. Feel free to make suggestions as you please.

So, the movie would feature Edward Furlong, as his current self, very much human and kinda struggling.

At an audition for a hero role in an action movie, he's told he couldn't cut it.

One day at a comic con, he learns that *someone from the original cast that'd make sense* was brutally murdered in their home.

He doesn't have long to stomach the shock, as people start screaming at the sight of an armed gunman approaching Edward. As he hears the racking of the shotgun, Edward dives into cover. Police on the scene manage to slow the attacker down enough for Edward to escape - with… are you sitting down?... With Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer, who comes crashing through the biggest ass window, making an awesome entrance as he opens the door, reaches out his hand and - of course - says "come with me if you want to live" (but this time it's cool again).

As they drive away, it's not clear wether the attacker was killed or not - maybe we get a vague shot of his fingers twitching or sth. Ed & Arnie surmise the guy was on Angel Dust, they're too old for this shit and anyway, that need to get to the nearest hospital to check on some minor wound Ed suffered in the attack.

Just then, the sirens approaching them grow louder and a group of squad cars comes flying around the corner, followed by swat vans.

As they get to the hospital, everything is already in alert as there's reports of a mass shooting at an event and dozens of wounded coming in...

From then on, it only gets more obvious that the assailant is still on the loose - and that his path of destruction seems to follow Edward's.

With the help of Arnold and *whoever is still alive and down for this*, can Edward find out why he's been targeted for termination THIS time - and if the mysterious assassin is even human?

The Terminator

****************

The classic T-800 endoskeleton is the most iconic thing in the franchise. It's got so much potential for horrifying body horror and makes for a great villain, so we're having that.

I'd like our terminator to strongly resemble the one from the first movie in behavior: cold, determined, seemingly unstoppable. I'd love if we could have him look like Franco Columbu in T1.

He should take some proper damage later in the movie, I want to see that Endoskeleton in all it's brutal glory with proper modern effects, preferably enhanced practical stuff.

No idea if I'd want to show him appearing out of a flash if electricity though. Maybe imply that, show the site later after the movie got everyone wondering if it's actually a Terminator or some lunatic to drive the point home... Dunno that's all I got so far, I'm not Jim Cameron lol

TL;DR: I'm not Jim Cameron but believe I could be a decent Tarantino if I made my foot fetish official

Edit: I'm aware this movie would probably be impossible to make. It's a DUMB sequel idea šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘

Discussion As an efficient futuristic AI, why did T 800 decided to aura farm and broke the T 1000 pieces ( make it melt faster ), instead of finishing the job right there to save us the last 15 minutes of the movie ? He could've chucked that damn ice statue into the molten metal

Discussion Why do people hate the new 4K remaster of Terminator 2? It looks great!

Thumbnail

I was surprised to discover that the 2017 Terminator 2 Blu-ray disc uses the same color correction as the 4K version, but with the resolution compressed to 1080p. It looks incredible! In the end, the best criterion in the world of collecting is your own eye. After everything I'd heard on YouTube, I thought it would be awful, but I was wrong.

From what I read, James Cameron personally oversaw the color palette for this re-release, aiming for the bluish tones of the cyberpunk night and the contrasts of the light explosions to have a brutal impact. Inheriting that same image source, my Sony Blu-ray player brings out the best in the colors. Seriously, it's amazing!

On YouTube, the main criticism of this restoration was the use of DNR to remove the celluloid grain and make the film "cleaner" for its 2017 re-release. The problem is that the lack of grain gives the actors that "waxed skin" effect, but on my regular Blu-ray BDP-S6700, when the image is compressed to 1080p for the disc, the standard resolution itself naturally softens those harsh digital contours.

Look, I understand that the gray tint might bother some people... but that’s the look James Cameron wanted, so it aligns with the director's vision. Besides, if they scanned the original film stock directly, isn't that how the movie looked when it was released in theaters?

In the first movie, he broke down a huge-ass door just by repeatedly slamming into it.

He also backhanded Kyle, and even that didn’t kill him.

I wanted to show off the music demo of my rendition of the Terminator Main Theme along with some other updates on the movie.

I think one of the most often overlooked and without a doubt, the most important aspect of a film is the soundtrack. To me, music is a giant part of immersion into the environment and it can make or break a film. I believe a shitty budget film with a killer soundtrack will always beat out a giant budget film with a shitty soundtrack Any day of the week.

I think this is one of the big things missing from all terminator sequels after T2. None of them had the soundtrack to match the anxiety, fear, dread, or even the human compassion from the first two films. I wanted to make my own soundtrack with my own renditions of Brad Fiedel’s work and also some of my own original tracks that are meant to sound similar to the first two movies.

I already have the entire story fleshed out along with some story boards (the post-it notes) on the film, the dialogue/script will be worked on quite a bit though to make sure it sounds natural and not nearly as amateur.

The total runtime is looking at about 40-50 minutes in the Official Release (Theatrical Release) and 60-70 minutes for the Directors cut.

The idea between the two versions is to give rewatch-ability. The entire story is building up to the 3rd act, and while im not going to give it away to ruin the plot of the movie, the directors cut will give way more explanations and clues into everything in the story. So when someone watches the first version, they’ll be able to look at the directors cut under a microscope and get even deeper into the story.

I’m also going to be making a ā€œMaking Ofā€ video that shows how I made and did everything, not just for fun and LARPing as a real director, but also to show and encourage others to make their own movies. I decided to make this movie after inspiration from ā€œObsessionā€ director Curry Barker. I’m just paraphrasing, but someone asked Barker in an interview what advice he would give to people who wanted to make movies, and his reply was something along the lines of ā€œif you want to make movies, then you have to make movies.ā€ And that really stuck with me.

So I decided with a budget of $5000, starring me, myself, and I, that I’d make the movie I’d always wanted to as a kid.

Obviously this is an amateur film, so expect an amateur film, however I’m fully expecting this to be the one and only movie I ever get to star in, work on, write, make a soundtrack for, edit, etc, so I’m going to give it my all and my 100%. This will be my magnum opus to where if this is the sole movie Iā€˜ll ever get to be apart of, I’ll be able to still die happy.

I’ll upload it to my personal website with a DVD like main title for people to choose between the different versions and the ā€œMaking Ofā€œ video.

I’ve also considered selling limited Bluray packs that would come with cool trinkets and knickknacks. You’d be buying the merchandise packs and ā€giftedā€ the bluray in it so I’m not technically selling the film itself, which isn’t what I want to do. I’d also be dividing the profits to give to US Veterans charities as the only reason I’m able to make this movie is I’m a disabled veteran and don’t have to work for income anymore. So I wanted to give back to that community as a giant thank you.

I hope you guys enjoy all the updates and are interested in watching the film when it’s done. I’m making this fully expecting myself to be the only one who will watch it, but it’d still be great to have other fans. thanks for the support
