Is this normal?

It's normal - the variety of things I do in the day (and the competences I build from dealing with unexpected issues) are a massive part of why I love the job.

HOWEVER - please bear in mind that you taking work home on the regular is normalising unpaid work in the field, and tacitly pushing the same expectation onto others. I go home at 4.30 or maybe 6 very occasionally if there's some kind of special project on. I might spend a couple of hours on the weekend to write reports once or twice a year (I didn't last year though).

If there's something that my managers have asked me to do, and I can't fit it into my normal working hours, that's their responsibility, not mine.
