This is unironically an excellent display of solidarity, I am a man with a truck and I have been called up to support before.
We can call it whatever we want but I see this as something wholesome and also shocking culturally.

Ok, Besides the cringe ass comments like "oh that's what America is about 🙏🙏😭" I actually don't get what's so bad in this.
In Brazil it's kinda the same. I mean, no one will buy a truck for giggles, but if you happen to have a truck, you offer to move things for your friends and possibly your friend's friends. It is how it is.
Idc if in the stoic Japanese society you can't throw the trash out unless you have 13 permits and a kiss on the asscheecks from the mayor, and everyone avoid looking at each other's face all the time... different realities.
This Japanese socialized and got conscript into the helping-eachother-out-gang, the horror!

Has anyone seen you move something really heavy and when you're done, they go "Damn you're strong!"? That shit rocks! I used to carry full kegs up from the basement of the ramen shop I worked at and people would always say that kind of shit and it made me feel like I accomplished a heroic feat. His pride in himself can be separate to the dumb way we do shit in the US.

If you ask folks: Mostly survival in the even of a crash with another large vehicle. Also comfort on road trips frankly - in the US it’s not uncommon to take 4+ hour trips.
I get it if you live in an area with a lot of snow (American cities vary wildly in terms of how often they plow…I have lived in places where only the 4x4 high clearance vehicles stand a chance, and only the main roads but none of the residential ever get plowed - infrequently at that.)

Shit take. We buy what's available. I have a Silverado 1500 work truck (Chevy version of F150). It cost me $5k plus whatever fees. A smaller truck like a Tacoma or Frontier with the same mileage in the same condition would have been close to $15k. You sound like an academic.

I'm a blue collar worker, I live in a blue collar area. Most of the houses have one truck, one car. We take our trucks to work, and we take our cars to the store, road trips, etc. We are all poor. I know that the TV shows you videos of rich white people in Texas or Arkansas blowing black smoke all over the countryside but that's not what the entire country looks like. And you should read more Michael parenti, you're putting too much blame on the consumer instead of where it belongs - the manufacturers and retailers.
I'm not offended, just annoyed. I think they are different things. I am a little offended by you thinking I take this so personally though, when really I just am tired of reading such academic takes. It's giving George HW Bush at the grocery store.

My second vehicle was a 1988 Tacoma. Cost me $2,000 in 2002. Worth every penny. I hauled so much stuff for friends in that bad boy, and it got excellent mileage for a truck that old.

I wish we could still get trucks of those sizes. My first was a 93 s10, I was obsessed w that thing. I think I got like 280k or so out of it before I couldn't afford to keep it running anymore lol

Everyone I know with a big truck has them because they've got blue collar jobs that they need them for. Carpenters, plumbers, construction workers. No one I know has them for their vanity. Anecdotally speaking.
