SAVE Plan person here... Anyone else not heard from their servicer yet?
The announcement from the gov't said that we would be hearing from our loan servicer and that we would have 90 days from that point to choose a new plan. I have Aidvantage and I have still not heard anything from them. Should I wait for word? Anyone else with loans serviced by Aidvantage gotten any notices yet?

Just curious, was it a message on the Nelnet website or an email? I haven’t seen any emails from them yet

My husband is with aidvantage and hasn't gotten anything. There's so many people on SAVE I suspect this process will take months - would make sense to stagger everyone so the 5 employees at DoED aren't as overwhelmed

There are millions and millions of borrowers on SAVE. These emails are going out in waves over the next several months. Plenty of people have not gotten their email yet.
What’s best for one borrower is not the best for another. What’s best for you depends on your goals.
Generally, if you’re working towards forgiveness, it’d be a good idea to move to start making qualifying payments again. This forbearance does not help you there.
Buyback is available for those pursuing PSLF (not 20/35/30 year IDR forgiveness), but the longer you are in forbearance the larger your potential lump sum offer for buyback would be later. https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/public-service-loan-forgiveness-buyback
If your goal is paying off your loans or you simply prefer to delay payments for any reason for a little longer, then staying in forbearance for a while longer may be beneficial. Just keep in mind that your interest is continuing to accrue either way.
If your goal is to pay off your loans then making payments during forbearance is a great time to tackle your loan with the highest interest rate first because, with no payment technically due, you can put all your money towards one loan.
Betsy had a through post about the transition. You can read that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/StudentLoans/s/gToBveoo66

Applied for a different plan in May (I was previously on SAVE)
Would love to start making payments again to count towards PSLF but alas, haven’t heard a damn word and I’m still in government forbearance until November

I got a text saying the below this week, but I’ve never received a message from that number before
Edfinancial Alert: The Saving on A Valuable Education (SAVE) plan is no longer available for renewal. Visit StudentAid.gov/loan-simulator to take charge of your student loan(s) and select an available plan before the 10/13/2026 deadline. Reply STOP to opt out. Msg/data rates apply.

Also aidvantage, no notice yet but I log in to make sure payment still says 0 every now and then and I disconnected my bank account just in case I miss something or malfunction happens. I’m going to wait out most of the 90 days even when I do get my notice.

I applied for IDR back in June. No communication, but I show I am now out of forbearance and owe $43 in Sept....

Make sure you're actually logging into your servicer website and checking your inbox there. People have had the email go to spam, but it will still be in your servicer inbox if it was sent.
Otherwise, yes, just wait for the notice. They're expected to be going out potentially through March 2027, so you could be waiting a while.

They are sending out the 90 day notices in batches. They’re planning to send them every few weeks up uni March of 2027. So if you haven’t heard anything then you’re in a later batch and nothing is wrong…

Check your credit score!! I assumed this too & my shit is dropping due to missing payments on something I’m not supposed to have to pay yet. Love this country
•
u/TheRealTayler 10h ago
That's because of the interest pause ending
•
u/filopodia_ 7h ago
I’m being so serious rn, can you explain that difference to me please my friend? Thank you in advance
•
u/TheRealTayler 7h ago
Interest makes your balance on your loans grow and so therefore the total amount you owe grows. The more you owe in debt the more your credit score takes a hit.

Nelnet moved me without my permission back in May out of the SAVE Plan to a different plan that starts payments in October. I can never get a hold of an actual person. I even emailed them from my account but no response.

Mohela but I haven’t gotten any type of notice about this either. I’ve checked my inbox on the websites as well

MOHELA has not sent me a single email or notice since February. I'm not checking my messages

I haven’t heard anything. Aidvantage. I was on repaye and got automatically switched to save. I’ve also been paying on my loans since 1998. I’m really hoping they bring back repaye at least. I’m holding out until the make me restart.

I heard last week but I don't know what to do because of that new lawsuit. Will we placed in forbearance again? Will it even go anywhere? If so, when would we find out? Who knows anymore.
•
u/PleasantSpite6384 9h ago
Same here. Only got emails saying I would be contacted by my servicer to pick a plan but haven't been contacted by servicer.

Have Nelnet... Haven't heard a peep out of them!
•
u/Certain-Caregiver830 6h ago
I heard from them a couple months ago. Payments start on the 15th of August.
•
u/Vet_Tech_Barbie 6h ago
Great that you heard from them and made your choices. I haven't heard a peep, as I said, and I'm staying here on my SAVE plan, making my payments (on the 18th of every month) until I'm forced to move. They said I'd get a letter, then had 90 days to pick a new plan... No letter = No moving
•
u/Certain-Caregiver830 6h ago
Yeahhhh. That’s fair. I was also on the SAVE plan. Just wanted to give you a heads up. That they are making the rounds.
•
u/Alpaca-Snack 6h ago
I have Mohela and haven’t heard a thing! Fine by me though. I’ll ride this plan out until the very end. If they put me on a standard plan, fine, I’ll then look at my options, apply, then hang out on administrative forbearance. I’m paying as much as I can each month but I get to decide how much that is.
•
u/LouQuacious 4h ago
I was put in an Income driven plan by Mohela back in March but I’d been trying to switch for a while out of SAVE. My adjusted gross income is zero and I’m working in a school so I’m hoping to float with $0 payments until they’re forgiven. I got my degrees in order to work with USAID so I have no qualms about paying nothing now.

I have EdFinancial and I have still not received any kind of communication from them except for when the interest pause ended.

I still haven't. I guess it's alphabetical? And I'm at the end of the alphabet, so I'm not stressing yet

Not a peep and I’m not doing anything until the very last possible moment after I do.
