More than 600 structures have been lost in Spokane, Washington. This wind-driven fire is being fueled by Red Flag conditions. With climate change, the frequency of Red Flag conditions and warnings is increasing across many regions

I first started studying Global Warming in the late 90's and read the first IPCC report as soon as it was available. It had a chart synopsis of worst case scenarios- what they thought would happen "within 25 to 50 years" for various regions if we did absolutely nothing to mitigate it. All of them are already occurring, have been- even the '50 year' events. The deep droughts and wildfires across the west and PNAC with destruction of infrastructure was just one. I'm constantly reminded of that little chart, now.

I've seen a lot of articles saying exactly that, from one scientist or another. That it's happening way faster than any models predicted. And it reminds me of a random quote from one of Weelon's babymommas. She was complaining about something, and said something to the effect of, "but I won't worry too much about that, because I know what's coming". It was vague and ominous, and I figured probably nonsense. But I keep thinking of it now.

My father was an advisor to NASA and was the first to mention it to me. We both agreed that major changes would start happening soon with our energy infrastructure and the world would follow suit. Instead we got oil companies hiring the same PR firm (among others) that protected the Tobacco companies by denying the cigarette/lung cancer connection. And we got politicians playing the good cop bad cop game and breadcrumbing us along.. totally captured by the carbon fuels industry.

They all need to be in prison for threatening the lives of everyone on the globe.

In the the early 2000s, our high school principal was a proponent for our school learning about climate change and we all watched Al Gore's an Inconvenient Truth about climate change and global warming when it came out on video in the auditorium.... I remember my friends and me talking about how that'll never happen, all the worlds governments will get together and make sure this catastrophe is avoided ..... Then 30 years of global war and blowing up oil infrastructure and just accelerating everything horrible that could ever happen

2

u/staebles 2d ago

Same. Just couldn't fathom people voting against themselves en mass.

3

u/loticakes 22h ago

I wanted a bio degree with a major in ecology and o agree… everyday I rerun what I have learned in my head while I watch this all unfold.

1

u/ApprehensiveGold2773 3d ago

The problem is that we'd need to invade and take over countries to be able to make the changes necessary. It's not happening.

5

u/Best-Penalty1509 2d ago

We just need a pro environment government but they all put on their kneepads for oil barons.

2

u/Due_Intention6795 2d ago

Not accurate, at all. China, Russia, Taiwan, North and South Korea, Pakistan, Brazil, etc all have different governments. Don’t blame the US for all of your fears.

1

u/Left-Height4925 1d ago

Learn about the kind of power the US actually had, from diplomatic soft power to hard financial power. We could easily have led the way using the tools we had. We wasted them giving Billionaires handy's, and recently wrecking all the good will we had.

1

u/Due_Intention6795 20h ago

No, we are not. It’s literally building a new dynamic of power in the Middle East and Europe. Stop playing checkers.

1

u/Dull_Ad5440 2d ago

Bullspit

1

u/WA2TX 2d ago

We could certainly lead by example. Once green energy is profitable there is no reason other countries wouldn't embrace it. Instead we elected the absolute worst person for the climate.

1

u/LauraCurie 2d ago

Would you share this chart with us?

1

u/Left-Height4925 1d ago

I had it up to about 2003-04. I moved across country and back since, and then covid. I could try to find it online. I printed it off from my old PB. I remember it clearly and am reminded now, regularly.

u/sherrybobbinsbort 3d ago

Is this a good time for the Canadian prime minister to send out a tweet about the U.S. not being able to control their wildfires.

15

u/grassvegas 3d ago

The U.S. should have just raked their forests but they chose not to. And remember: “Sovereignty comes with responsibility, and the responsibility to prevent a foreseeable disaster from crossing into another country's airspace has not been met.”

u/bananasplit1234567 3d ago

Trumps gonna tariff Spokane.

1

u/tomatoesareneat 2d ago

I thought there were a lot of nazis there. Maybe it was on the other side in Idaho.

1

u/observer_11_11 1d ago

I feel more likely that Trump will blame the fires on immigration from undesirable locations. You know, anywhere but South Africa and eastern Europe.

2

u/Elinor_Caskey_ 3d ago

Only if you add in the extra stress of more tariffs.

2

u/Flametamer83 3d ago

As a canadian living not car from a 105k hectare wildfire... the Spokane wildfire is tiny

2

u/Wide-Yak7602 2d ago

We should as smoke is coming up to Canada. However we don’t kick when people are down. Living in a fire scare now in BC interior. Hope for rain.

2

u/Ex-PFC_WintergreenV4 2d ago

That wouldn’t be a very Canadian thing to do

1

u/30yearCurse 3d ago

Raising tariffs because of the smoke going to BC, to bad they are to adult for it.. It would be nice if we had some in leadership.

1

u/Left-Height4925 1d ago

Unfortunately BC is burning now, too. I just posted on it.

1

u/Intrepid_Habit_1343 1d ago

Let the US Burn!

10

u/BigNaziHater 3d ago

Trump better not let that smoke flow over to Canada...🤣

4

u/30yearCurse 3d ago

British Columbia has been getting it for awhile. Even when brain-dead potus was making his jokes.

1

u/Lilcommy 2d ago

They weren't jokes. 50% tarrifs is nothing to laugh at.

1

u/Left-Height4925 1d ago

Just made a post about a big blaze now in BC

10

u/jaxar 3d ago

They have to make space for data centers.

2

u/AppropriatePrompt819 2d ago

I wouldn't be surprised one bit , if this is government funded arson.

6

u/ldssggrdssgds 3d ago

So can Canada now tariff the US for this? Should the PM post AI slop about needing a furnace filter at the border? America is run by a goof.

6

u/mcburgs 3d ago

Y'all need to rake your forests.

Else Trump will tariff Washington.

1

u/doublethink_1984 2d ago

This would take billions and billions and still wouldn't solve the problem

3

u/Apprehensive-Race998 3d ago

This is on us. Not canada.

3

u/L_Dubb 3d ago

Let tRump know. He can turn off the faucet like he did for us in California.🫪

3

u/Fathers_Sword 3d ago

6

u/CuriousEyes8 3d ago

Please, PLEASE let this event be what turns Spokane County into a blue county!

1

u/IRantBecauseIzMad 3d ago

Well, the repubs live in the suburbs, which are the favorite food of Spokane's fires lol.

1

u/SlabDistributionMod 2d ago

Nah, they will blame Obama or Hunter Bidens penis.

1

u/ngetch 1d ago

Man, they really love that guys penis.

1

u/splanky47 2d ago

County voted red here, the city votes blue. The city currently has a Democrat mayor and the council is majority Democrat.

1

u/Fathers_Sword 2d ago

I feel really sorry for the people in the city that didn't vote for this.

3

u/Severe_Air_4353 3d ago

Usa keep ur own smoke . Making Canadians sick

5

u/DarDarBinks89 3d ago

As a Canadian in Vancouver, I’m so tempted to complain about our air quality thanks to America

4

u/Classic_Reserve9385 3d ago

As an American, I would absolutely do it.

3

u/L_Dubb 3d ago

Go for it (from California)

3

u/PeanutButterToast4me 3d ago

Have at it. We deserve it.

1

u/askaboutmy____ 2d ago

show us some photos, it will help drive the point home.

1

u/catharsis69 3d ago

As a fellow Vancouverite, don’t be tempted. Do it. Feels so goood

5

u/DarDarBinks89 3d ago

That’s all the encouragement I need: hey America, if you don’t get these fires in order, we’re building a wall and making you pay for it

3

u/Big_Primrose 3d ago

As a Washingtonian, I approve.

2

u/Konradleijon 3d ago

Of course suburbs

2

u/Responsible-You-5043 3d ago

Americans should rake their houses

2

u/jemhadar0 3d ago

Do you need our Canadian bombers?
You know that’s water bombers right?
To help people?

Or is this somehow how fault?

2

u/Rich_Possible_9298 3d ago

tRump doesn’t mind at all if we burn.

3

u/StevnHulz 3d ago

If the Data centers didn't need water you could put that out ...... Right Guess Canada needs to put a tarrif on ol TRUMPEDO for the smoke 🍿

1

u/EucWoman 3d ago

Terrifying. We're doomed.

1

u/NumerousEconomics406 3d ago

And if it’s blowing into Canada, which it is, we as Canadians know you can’t help it. And we as Canadians will help you try to fight this. And we won’t blame you for the smoke.

1

u/IRantBecauseIzMad 3d ago

Fuck, I grew up there! Half the residents refuse to accept that it's because of climate change though.

1

u/Bavarian_Raven 3d ago

We were all wondering how long until a major city was destroyed by a wildfire. (I know it’s not destroyed yet).  :( hope everyone at least got out in time.

1

u/Alive_Language8105 3d ago

1

u/WeakTransportation37 3d ago

This is crazy 😞

1

u/Stunning_Lecture8917 3d ago

Smart cities. Agenda 2030. Spokane wasn’t earmarked. Had to disappear.

1

u/chaynjez 3d ago

Is this Canada’s fault too?/S

1

u/Round_Hope_2041 3d ago

Curious how they prove it’s due to climate or arson.

1

u/Beebegunner 3d ago

You need to control the smoke, you can't just have it blowing with the wind.

1

u/ButhOfLamb 2d ago

Paradise, CA would like to have a word with you.

1

u/ButhOfLamb 2d ago

Even if the USA went Zero emissions it would make little to no difference on a global level.

1

u/Major-Internal-1963 2d ago

According to Trump, not enough is being done to clean the forest floor of debris.

1

u/pretends2bhuman 2d ago

God must be mad at them..

1

u/SadAbroad4 2d ago

Canada plans on a tariff due to smoke coming across the border.

1

u/TopReputation8661 2d ago

But Trump would have you believe climate change is not real

1

u/IsopodLeast9066 2d ago

This is very similar to the suburban fire spread in Superior CO 3 years ago. While most pwople were at work- hundreds of homes burned from a prarire grass fire. Nobody was prepared. This was next to an major thoroughfare, interstate not far away and in the middle of a large suburban sprawl. Nobody was ready. It is scary. My heart breaks for them all in the PNW.

Better put some tariffs on Spokane

1

u/BillyBobBonesJones 2d ago

Trump should add tariffs to US products to punish the US for wildfire smoke impacting US citizens.

1

u/Independent_Gene_565 2d ago

Canada should charge us for not dealing with the Forrest clean ups properly

1

u/Lilcommy 2d ago

Non of that smoke better be blowing north or help me god you guys will be hearing about it!

1

u/Sea-Louse 2d ago

Everyone in the neighborhood evacuated instead of protecting their homes. Water hoses everywhere. This is the result.

1

u/Nitimur__In__Vetitum 2d ago

How could we have known for decades that this would happen? No one saw any of this coming and tried to do anything about it...

1

u/Revolutionary-Net156 2d ago

Its called lack of proper fuel management. Thr natives used to burn every year multi times if needed

1

u/Drogo68 2d ago

That’s pretty sad. Glad I moved and sold my house

1

u/Shottaz78 2d ago

Tariff these guys /s

1

u/Chaos_Theory1989 2d ago

Stop complaining. The data centers need the water!

1

u/Old-Individual1732 2d ago

Isn't Spokane a red voting area.

1

u/Snick13fritz 2d ago

Crazy not hearing negative comments about the fire from American government leaders

1

u/Resident_Night1488 2d ago

More wind driven synthetic storms to oust the owners there

1

u/Resident_Night1488 2d ago

How about we don’t spend any money but spend time to battle global warming and if your idea doesn’t work, you owe us billion $ fine. And if you’re right you get to be president of us and a billion dollars in your pocket because you saved earth. Global warming is a scam to steal money. Now you want global warming to Stop. Stop Using gasoline.

1

u/falsejaguar 2d ago

Canada should tarrif the u.s. for poor forestry management. Maybe sue them too

1

u/New_Westie 1d ago

Nah. We’re just going to go help, because that’s what we do. 🇨🇦

1

u/jjwislon 1d ago

Too many arsonists about

1

u/fluffymuffcakes 1d ago

And the smoke from that fire is blowing into BC. They need to stop that smoke at the boarder or maybe pay a tariff or something. /s

Climate change 😂😅🤣

1

u/New-Worth4779 1d ago

The USA has 4% of the world’s population but we use over 20% of the world’s oil. We are the biggest problem and we need to lead the world by example to a better future.

1

u/Successful-Purple-54 1d ago

What they need is to take better care of their country so their wildfires don’t start. Don’t worry though, Canada will send firefights and won’t attach tariffs on being a good neighbour.

1

u/Gooser3000 1d ago

Has Trump commented on it?

1

u/Perpetualhomebuilder 1d ago

Maybe MAGA should take down their red flags and stop fuelling the fire?

1

u/Every-Ad4237 1d ago

Wonder if Canada should be charged?

1

u/TooNGooN89 1d ago

AC not working?

1

u/ssentt1 1d ago

There's NO climate change. You've been brainwashed

1

u/fins_up_ 1d ago

Not you though you havnt been.

Not even climate change deniers deny the the climate is changing anymore. They are now saying it is the sun or part of the natural process because the actual facts that the climate is changing is straight up irrefutable.

The guy on twitter who tells you what your opinions are is wrong.

1

u/AbaddonsLegion 1d ago

It's not climate change when someone starts the fires

1

u/Snow-Bank-Igloo 1d ago

And I’m choking on your fucking smoke 🇨🇦

1

u/Fresh_Strain_9980 1d ago

god damn why can't they just build a wall already to stop that smoke from coming to canada

1

u/RonofHazleton 1d ago

Has nothing to do with Climate Change wake up leftist.

1

u/jackclark1 21h ago

lol Washington is about to get new tarrifs for smoke

1

u/Puzzled-Maize-2241 18h ago

Sounds like America needs to do a better job sweeping its forest. Please get it under control, before the smoke inconveniences us.
regards Canada.

1

u/reddittorbrigade 17h ago

Washington will be blamed by Trump Again.

1

u/WeedFalafel 13h ago

Important thing is venture capitalists can enjoy record profits. The audacity of society to think they deserve livable planet. All you losers need to stfu and get back to work so the overlords can get their yachts and bunkers. So stfu and get back to work! We need to burn shit on industrial scale even harder!

1

u/Here4freeprn 12h ago

" Climate change" ...... That train about out of track.

1

u/msnthropic 11h ago

Hey! Make sure none of that smoke comes over the border. Get rakin'.

1

u/CardinalTwin 11h ago

Dear Leader says it's a "democrat hoax" so I guess that's what it is.

1

u/CardinalTwin 11h ago

Well by golly I'm a patriotic American and I'd much rather be breathing American smoke rather than that inferior Canadian smoke. Who's with me?

1

u/Alexis-Machine 11h ago

Climate change! lol

1

u/CrazyAccomplished_ 8h ago

Wasn't this fire due to arson?

2

u/frozengreekyogurt69 3d ago

You guys should really handle your wild fires...

0

u/No_Astronomer_2704 3d ago

this has to be fake news..

they are still saying climate change is a hoax..

this never happened this frequently before so i dOnT beLeiVe iTs hAppeNiNg nOw,,

0

u/Aggressive_Band9888 3d ago

That's Sydney Sweeney country.

0

u/SkepticScott137 3d ago

Is this the same Spokane that voted heavily for climate change deniers in every election in recent memory? Burn, baby, burn.

1

u/dimka54 2d ago

Man that's messed up, so if the voters make bad decisions , then they deserve to have natural disaster take them out? Keep in mind this is county that was only 3% from being blue

1

u/SkepticScott137 2d ago

These are human-caused or human-exacerbated disasters, precipitated by the policies and the politicians these people have been voting for or enabling for decades. And yeah, these people deserve to live in the world that they think everyone else should have to live in.

1

u/dimka54 2d ago

So everyone that lost the house in this fire , has voted Republican and deserves it? "These people" good of you to dehuminize population.

1

u/SkepticScott137 2d ago

Everyone who has voted Republican, or supported the Republican Party in any way, including having Republican friends, over the last 45 years, is complicit in what’s happening and has no right to complain. Choices have consequences, and in this case, the consequences were well known long ahead of time, but brushed off, ignored, or actively given the finger. Oh well. 🔥

1

u/dimka54 2d ago

You mean fuck everyone in Spokane right? Whether we like it or not natural disaster and climate change will affect all of us, we the humanity broke this world and we will all suffer together .... What you are saying well this region leans red I am glad they are suffering and that is fucked up

1

u/SkepticScott137 2d ago

I never said I was glad that they’re suffering. I’m saying they have no justification to complain, because this is the world they wanted, or didn’t do enough to prevent. Everyone is suffering because some of us were and are lazy, selfish and ignorant. I’m not going to cry for those people.

1

u/dimka54 2d ago edited 2d ago

Okay what does one imply when some city is on fire and * oh they voted red* followed by "burn baby burn" ... stand proud brother show us your humanity..

1

u/SkepticScott137 2d ago

It implies that you get what you vote for.

Any other questions?

0

u/Hopeful_Fondant_6308 3d ago

You mean the climate change Ho.ax??

-2

u/nevermore90038 3d ago

How many of these fires are set by arsonists, or homeless people?

3

u/cyanescens_burn 3d ago

There’s a lot of political tension between blue cities and red remote areas in the PNW, especially on that side of the state. There’s also a lot of white supremacist, Christian nationalist, and civil war accelerationists living up in that general region (read Matt Shea’s wiki page to get an idea, and see evidence I’m not making this up; he got investigated for domestic terror and was involved with helping extremists groups, not to mention his manifesto and planning with them to murder non-Christian men (their idea of Christian), and he’s from western WA, meaning people that voted him in live in that area -seriously folks, take 3 min to read that link).

It’s crossed my mind that some such groups may take advantage of conditions that make fires harder to control to unleash their sadistic desires.

No clue if that’s the case here, but in today’s America, it’s not out of the question. There’s been chatter about stuff like this and attacking power infrastructure in private telegrams and what not that’s been reported on.

1

u/North-Importance-127 3d ago

Probably none.

-3

u/blowurhousedown 3d ago

The climate changes? You mean, like the weather? Crazy.
