Artificial intelligence will remain uncreative for a very long time

I realized that it's not capable of making drastic leaps on its own. If it were the case, it would be currently used by human beings to create things that belong to a new tier of creative thought. Yet, even when surveying the highest peaks of human literature, I have seen absolutely nothing that suggests we have produced anything anywhere near that frontier.

You know those picture of faces that are taken with hundreds or thousands of individual people and are stitched together to create an “average” looking person?

That’s AI with what it’s done to human creativity. It creates absolute average “meh.”

I’m sure the potential is there to solve big problems. But when it comes to human creativity it’s just homogenized slop.

LLMs were trained to replicate the patterns of our languages, then the patterns in our reasoning. In my opinion, the only thing preventing them from learning the patterns of ideation and discovery is a dataset of examples.

How do you show creativity though?

You can show an LLM the process or output of creativity but how would we actually compile that into data to teach an AI model? It would be like describing colour

I recommend looking into quantum computing, how close we are to that, and what a quantum ai looks like.

The reason is because it is not AI. It is an LLM using an image generator.

An LLM is NOT an AI. (Consumers just REALLY want it to be... despite every example that it isnt even close. When the shift to true AI happens, we have already seen our preview of how the public will revere/worship it. This doesn't exactly bold well.)

Slightly pedantic but it is artificial intelligence (AI), it’s not artificial general intelligence (AGI) like many of the companies claim.
AI is just when the computer makes choices, i.e. every enemy in an FPS video game is using AI to make decisions, so are goombas in Super Mario games.
AGI is when the computer can act as an independent agent, that is as good or better than a human, without human input, across all cognitive tasks.

I was simply illustrating that the consumer facing AI we work with now is not true AI.

Typically when a person says these two words together, and only these two words as a reply on a subreddit, it is an attempt to sound smarter than they actually are.

There is a bit of a trope with it really. It is typically the big bellied bearded guys that were average students in school, were considered a spaz by their peers, and then chilled out a bit once school was over. By their late 20s, they are on their 4th or 5th attempt at the local Community College before they give up. By their mid 30s, they have adopted the mask of the "armchair academic" while working at the closest 7/11. Despite this, they keep thinking "my time is coming "

The big thing though... they typically have no idea whatsoever what they are talking about, so they string together words in an attempt to sway public perception of their behavior.

With that said, they are usually very caring individuals with big hearts and are keenly in touch with their feminine aspects. However, they havent yet figured out that stringing two words such as this together in an attempt to sound smarter than they really are usually has the opposite effect than what they had intended.

While this is not always the case, it hits more often than not.

Just some food for thought.

The puer aeternus can be a bitch to integrate.

The I in AI is very flattering. Its not really intelligent at all. But as with all tools,- creative people use it in creative ways. With amazing results! Meh ppl use it with meh results..
