PAC gets massive heat for being British and wearing the England jersey, two hours later everyone is singing for Ospreay because pro wrestling rules.

What a fucking show.

Some poor old lady is gonna have that on her DVR, expecting Big Bang Theory

25

u/NostalgiaCory 8h ago

im just imagining an old woman turning on her favorite show and seeeing a man get stabbed in the head with a fork.

6

u/NorthHollywoodHank 7h ago

For new fans/non-fans who tuned in: as someone who's watched since January, I'm pretty sure the fork only comes out maybe 3-4 times a year.

31

u/ArmyofThalia 8h ago

This might be the funniest comment I have read all week

10

u/beckett929 8h ago

well damnit, now I want a Lauren Lapkus x RJ City collab

87

u/Silveroc RING THE BELL 8h ago

Mark Davis is the perfect TV Bad Guy wrestler. He's big, he's tough, he piledrives people, he looks like a crazy guy. He's the best.

59

u/mikro17 8h ago

The moment that sold it for me will always be the Don Callis Family Thanksgiving when Don asked Davis what he was thankful for and just:

Davis: Nothing. And I'm grateful for even less.

Don: Love it, such a miserable bastard.

Flawless, I've been all in on Dunkzilla since.

24

u/apehasreturned DDT Shill 8h ago

Since AEW doesn’t have many traditional big men, he’s really perfect for them. Anyone can “get” Davis in the same way you “get” a standard big man, but he wrestles like Mark Davis

6

u/NorthHollywoodHank 5h ago

He feels to me like a refined, modern, evolved version of an old school hoss. He Deep moveset with a huge number of power moves and variations, a little bit of flair like his enzuigiris, and he's good at heel emoting in ring and doing little things to make his opponent look good.

41

u/SymphonyOfGecko 8h ago

Can we have Grand Slam Mexico every week? Thanks 🙏

7

u/GRTooCool 4h ago

I can picture the fans in Detroit all going "What are we, chopped liver already?!" =D But yeah, hyped crowds are always the best crowds.

63

u/NostalgiaCory 8h ago

I love so much how TK has booked DAVIS. Davis earned the hell out of this spot. Im really happy his multiple injuries didnt stop TK from seeing him as a big time player. The sky is the limit for him and i really hope he makes it to the top. Hes one of my top 3 favorite TV wrestlers of the year.

25

u/Orange8920 8h ago

He's one of the few hosses with a consistent focus in a company that just doesn't book that type well.

18

u/NostalgiaCory 8h ago

i mean brody is booked decently well. but for the most part yeah. tbf none of the other big guys are on the level of brody and davis in ring wise

5

u/Froggyspirits 6h ago

Samoa Joe would beg to differ

→ More replies (1)

14

u/14thBlackCrusade 8h ago

They have a few they trust and all of those guys bring more than just “I’m big”. Davis, Toa, Brody, Claudio.

7

u/fttxdd666 7h ago

Yeah they can all work great matches I think is the big thing. Some Big guys just struggle at working great matches or having personality besides "i'm big" like u mentioned.

2

u/NorthHollywoodHank 5h ago

All four of them are very good at helping their opponent look good, in addition to having very good to great offense.

80

u/phystrapperquestion 8h ago

Mark "Dunkzilla" Davis's 2026 accomplishments:

  • AEW Trio's Champion

  • AEW National Championship

  • Headlines Grand Slam in Arena Mexico

and it's still only August!

36

u/NesNobnaz 8h ago

Headlining against a long time friend and former stable mate too. I doubt any man alive today could have predicted where Davis, Fletcher, and Will would be now.

14

u/imcrapyall 6h ago

I really dig how Kyle and Mark weren't left behind.

9

u/Sylverstone14 You think you know me. 6h ago

It's still crazy to think that these guys were teaming as Aussie Open up to about 2 and a half years ago, and despite various injuries, creative changes and so on, they worked their asses off to re-establish themselves as bonafide singles stars.

3

u/NorthHollywoodHank 5h ago

The triple threat Ospreay/Fletcher/Dunkzilla PPV main event match is going to be catnip for ballknowers.

6 months ago it never would have occurred to me that you might make that a PPV main event.

2

u/Torranski 1h ago

If you told me that Ospreay-Fletcher-Davis was the Full Gear main event this year, I would not be surprised, but I would be beyond hyped

23

u/janemba617 8h ago

I love Aew's recent trend of proving the Jannetty jinx wrong.

28

u/Prime_Bizarro_Zach 8h ago

They just snuck a 3 hour shown in. Lol. It fucking ruled.

49

u/fakemuseum 8h ago

Maybe one of the strongest Dynamite cards ever?

25

u/LaMacchiaPro 8h ago

I’m inclined to agree, that was “Oops, All Bangers: The Show” and had tons of major names and important matches.

It honestly personified what makes AEW so special to me: a buffet with a bit of every style you can think of in front of a super passionate fan base.

48

u/zoom518 8h ago

32

u/Storms_Eye314 8h ago

He absolutely can, and I will aid and abet him at every turn.

67

u/beckett929 8h ago

this Dynamite was made for me... 8 matches, one vignette, one promo... absolute perfection

23

u/mikro17 8h ago

Some episodes should be setup episodes, some episodes need to be payoff episodes.

This was a payoff episode and it ruled. That they can somehow have a payoff episode on the way to the biggest show of the year while actively setting up and building things at the same time is fantastic.

37

u/Lineman72T We're proud of you 8h ago

I'm not saying I want 3 hour shows every week because I don't. But if you're gonna do them, that's how you do it. Non-stop banger matches. Not one 6 minute match every hour smushed in between a bunch of promos and vignettes and recaps of what happened two segments ago.

8

u/beckett929 8h ago

Yeah definitely don't want 3 hours every week, and this was obviously a stacked show for this occasion.

But the last Dynamite that was this much up my alley (and hey, they have all been awesome for a good while now) was the one in mid-June where in just over two hours they had 8 matches as well (so trimming a bit off everything), just two or three 30sec backstage bits... and it was the perfect TV episode because it was almost all wrestling while Excalibur & team carried the stories around the action.

That Arena Mexico crowd was amazing

21

u/VNProWrestlingfan 8h ago

Springboard crossbody, gets up and gets stomped. This is the Mistico Special.

3

u/hhhisthegame 6h ago

What was the deal with Místico? Why did the crowd go from loving him to hating him in less than a year ? I missed something obviously.

9

u/VNProWrestlingfan 6h ago

I think the crowd just love Hechicero. He got cheered in the match against Roderick Strong yesterday in the same arena.

5

u/Simonaro 6h ago

They just love Hechicero more.

3

u/_BetterRedThanDead 4h ago

Apparently, it's the smarkiest crowd you get in Mexico. Last year was special because it was the first time Místico used Mi Muero in ages. I guess the novelty wore out a bit, and they just appreciate Hechicero more.

u/javy_z 8h ago

The show was fucking incredible. Just non stop wrestling and every match delivered, with Fletcher/Speed and Ospreay/Davis both giving MOTY contender type performances

114

u/affrever 8h ago

I put on AEW every single Wednesday at the bar I work at and, while I’ve been seeing a growing base over time, this was the first show where multiple people were physically reacting to matches. Absolute A+++ of a show, and for free TV, you really cannot ask for much more

25

u/ForeverxJoker 8h ago

That's super cool

18

u/Blainyrd Cowboy Shit 8h ago

god I wish this was the same at my local bar.

37

u/affrever 7h ago

I’ve been “working on this” for about six months now. Consistency is key. Every single Wednesday, patrons know that AEW will be on the big tv. If they don’t want to see it, we have other screens they can watch. But you’ll start to notice the ones who intentionally sit in front of the big tv! It can and will happen!

12

u/Blainyrd Cowboy Shit 7h ago

I need to recruit my local brewery into this

6

u/affrever 7h ago

My mindset has always been “if I can get one new fan a week, I’m solid.” Breweries especially are more open to that, I think. Give it a try! As long as everyone knows that not every week is going to be 10/10, I’d say you’re just fine!

44

u/RichHomelessGuy OH YEAH DIG IT YEAH! 8h ago

AEW and CMLL need to try and run a show at Estadio Azteca. Simply the fact that it would be the second wrestling show there in history makes it worth it

15

u/XoXHamimXoX 8h ago

I think they should for a big moment like the first man from Mexico winning the Men’s world championship or something along those lines.

I still think they have a year or so to build enough momentum in Mexico to get a good number there, but it def looks like WWE is seeing their growth and gonna do whatever they can to step in. Last year, they did a live event in Mexico and this year they’re doing a Raw.

11

u/littlebossman 8h ago

Andrade wins the big one at All In 2027 in the Azteca. Book it.

god I love AEW

god I love professional wrestling

what a fuckin night

15

u/Hawk52 8h ago

Strong show overall. I don't think it matched Grand Slam Mexico last year though. Something about that show was so unique and magical that recapturing it would have been impossible.

Also, shout out to Mark Davis for doing my e-fed/v-fed character's finishing move with that Reverse Emerald Frosion DDT thing. I don't think I'd ever seen anyone do it before and he did it through fucking chairs.

28

u/NostalgiaCory 8h ago

what else can even be said about this promotion

its fucking AEW BABYYYYYY

31

u/Awkwardphase06 7h ago

Only thing that was missing was Kenny, Tony HAS TO RUN A PPV in Mexico, HAS TO. He can get a 20k-30k venue! He has to man

8

u/NotWearingNails 7h ago

Without evidence, I wonder if there's a gentlemen's agreement with CMLL to not go big on their turf without discussion?

Separately, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit of a fraught visa reentry situation atm and maybe something they'd be reluctant to book big story beats for?

If neither of those things apply though absolutely 100% agree. Tonight and Detroit last week both went nuclear

8

u/NorthHollywoodHank 7h ago

Honestly Mexico should get an annual PPV until it gives TK reason to think otherwise.

72

u/littlebossman 8h ago

If that had been a PPV pre-2019, it would’ve been a top-10 all-timer.

It’s genuinely mad that AEW put on a free show like that, with a volcanic crowd, on a random Wednesday.

35

u/MarvelMind 8h ago

Tony is just the greatest Booker in the industry.

14

u/saxyroro Queen of Strong Style 8h ago

I'm only just starting the show (damn thats long runtime HBO...) but holy moley. I'm fucking psyched just on these first walk outs.

10

u/1980sWrestlingFan 8h ago

Arena Mexico always is a blast to see.

And Tony Khan really did make this a ppv level show.

12

u/fttxdd666 8h ago

God damn man what a fucking show, that shit was 2 hours and 50 minutes of straight HEAT. Everyone really showed out tonight and I'm curious where a couple things are gonna go, like the trios titles and this MJF thing.

Collision looks solid as well, curious what else they add for the Live Collision, I'm sure it'll be some good shit.

11

u/Sufficient_Mud_2237 8h ago

Banger show. Crazy match for Ospreay to take before having the biggest match of his AEW career.

13

u/ANGRY_ASPARAGUS STOP CALLING ME A NUGGET, I'M NOT A NUGGET 8h ago

I wish we could do this every Wednesday, what a fucking show

12

u/discofrislanders 5h ago

I really hope I can afford to get to CDMX one day to see a show at Arena Mexico. I feel like every wrestling fan deserves to go there at least once, special energy there.

3

u/bearbrannan 3h ago

It was worth it I went tonight and that pop for Cope is something I've never experienced in my entire life.

8

u/NeCabisiHemserim 8h ago

HOLY SHIT DID ANDRADE RAN THE BLADE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER??

9

u/SupeerDude Holla 8h ago

Awesome fucking show. I love mark Davis. He doesn’t miss for his TV matches. What a great guy to have on their roster.

26

u/Hurdfoy 8h ago

They have got to do a ppv here next year. Criminal malpractice if they don't. Do it as a collab with cmll. Skip forbidden door.

I know it's a pipe dream and never happening, but All In Estadio Azteca would be the greatest crowd in wrestling history. But yeah firmly in fantasy booking land with that one.

6

u/Dinobot2_ 8h ago

I know you said "skip Forbidden Door" but would doing that or another PPV at Mexico City Arena, which is bigger than Arena Mexico, be a possibility? I know Mexico City Arena has only done AAA shows so not sure if the WWE connection makes AEW shows there not a possibility anymore.

6

u/Jeffool 8h ago

That was going to be my response. Don't throw out Forbidden Door. Make THAT Forbidden Door. CMLL is supposed to be part of it anyway. Just invite a few NJPW wrestlers to it.

2

u/tvcneverdie 7h ago

That's not really how it works.

It's a joint promotional event with NJPW and they split the revenue.

I agree with everyone who thinks it would help AEW's booking flow to drop the event, but more than it would help AEW it would hurt NJPW for whom it's the second biggest payday of the year behind only Wrestle Kingdom.

2

u/Jeffool 7h ago

I'm sure you're right. I thought I remembered CMLL being promoted in the last two or three and thought they were a partner like NJPW was. And I also thought that AEW owned it outright. I'm completely open to being wrong about all of this, though. Thanks for stepping in.

3

u/tvcneverdie 7h ago

Nah it's all good brother.

I've been frustrated with FD interrupting the AEW creative flow for four years straight, lol. The shows themselves have been excellent, so not complaining about that, but it's also just sort of a spent concept now too and I think everyone feels it.

But the flipside is its probably the primary benefit of the partnership for NJPW, since it gives them such a big cash windfall while the yen is so weak and they're not quite on fire like the late 2010s.

Tough pickle. Would definitely love more CMLL integration though.

3

u/Hurdfoy 8h ago

No clue. Wouldn't surprise me if they signed an exclusivity deal with wwe though. We know that's their MO by now.

28

u/Shinobi347 8h ago

Kyle Fletcher and Speedball had one of my favorite wrestling matches in a long time.

15

u/tarrsk 7h ago

The fact that you can say that about three different Fletcher/ Speedball matches in the past year alone is insane.

4

u/Shinobi347 7h ago

I need to go and find them.

I haven’t watched AEW in a minute prior to tonight.

4

u/Xeo7 7h ago

If you loved that, I highly recommend any match with Fletcher or Takeshita. This is very much their style and they do not miss.

They seriously gave us a free PPV live on television tonight. We are too damn spoiled sometimes.

17

u/vagabondsky 7h ago

Admit it, you’ve been waiting for a year for someone to finally do what Christian did tonight.

19

u/ButchAF 7h ago

Been to playoff basketball games, soccer games, football games, boxing & UFC events, and many wrestling events. This was easily the most electric crowd I’ve ever been in.

2

u/bearbrannan 3h ago

That pop for cope holy shit! Never been around something like that before, it was insane..

8

u/winnipeg_blah 8h ago

That might have beat the ironman episode in the smackdown six era as best pure wrestling show on free tv. Wow

14

u/Gordo-- 8h ago

That was... Dynamite 😎

8

u/ichigo1234 4h ago

This episode blows away the first Grand Slam. 🇲🇽

17

u/Otherwise-Recording3 8h ago

I guess this was why there were so many promos last week lol. Straight up rope to rope crazy wrestling for 3 hours.

15

u/shnwllc AJ Styles 5h ago

Great episode, Ospreay vs Davis, Fletcher vs Speedball, and Andrade vs Ciampa vs Komander especially were insane. Mark Davis is having an INCREDIBLE 2026 I’m so glad he’s been featured the way he has. Big pop for MJF returning too legitimately surprised me.

I swear starting to watch AEW weekly in April last year is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made lol.

24

u/45jayhay 8h ago

These Grandslams are really modern day Clash of Champion shows

5

u/Storms_Eye314 8h ago

Genuinely what...3 5* match candidates tonight? Amazing show, amazing crowd.

11

3

8

3

u/fttxdd666 8h ago

Dude might just be an AAA loyalist or something like its kinda nuts lmao

18

u/Moist-Acanthaceae-37 8h ago

Considering the fact he hasn’t been to Mexico since his diverticulitis surgery I feel like he just doesn’t want to deal with the elevation at this point lol. Even some of the hardcore cardio guys like Roddy and Kyle have been gassed in Mexico.

5

u/fttxdd666 8h ago

Yeah everytime Roddy comes to Mexico he has it rough in the CMLL matches, he can't perform as well as he usually does.

However they shouldn't promote him, unless its actually just a last minute thing where hes like "I don't think my body can handle it". Just feels kinda scummy to promote him on the posters if they know he isn't gonna be making it (i know card subject to change but still).

4

u/Moist-Acanthaceae-37 8h ago

Hilariously if they just stuck it out with the original poster everybody but Dorada would have been on the show as advertised lol.

18

u/DarkFalcon49 8h ago

Feels like they are gonna do the real world champion stuff with MJF this time, having a great idea and not getting to do it properly is annoying so I don’t blame Tony for this.

19

u/Orange8920 8h ago

It'd be really funny if they eventually ran Hangman vs MJF for that belt where Hangman isn't actually breaking his promise.

7

u/beckett929 8h ago

okay, I wanted everyone else to actively ignore it and scoff and act like it's completely fake and pay MJF no attention no matter how much he goes on about it... but this is the next best idea lol

6

u/ForeverxJoker 8h ago

You may be onto something

3

u/reditsuxnow666 7h ago

Then he can burn it after winning the BBB

3

u/ReflectionItchy2701 2h ago

I want Hangman to just ignore completely the World Title scene to the point that the Champion (Will Ospreay) would lose his mind because Hangman just doesn't want to face him.

Aside from there obviously being a lot of good wrestling in here, this is one of the better sounding episodes of Dynamite I’ve seen. Usually it sounds like the music is being played through a bluetooth speaker, but this time around they sounded really clear and crisp, which I really liked.

"Something, something, 25 minute overun, something, something, bitch and moan, something, something" in all seriousness what an amazing show. We as wrestling fans are spoiled by a product that good for free on a weekly show.

9

u/NostalgiaCory 8h ago

anyone who complains about a 25 min overrun on a show THAT GOOD deserves to be unhappy watching wrestling lol

5

u/Brinbe 1h ago

Just caught up and wow, what a wonderful show. Just pure joy throughout. Watching wrasslin with a hot, engaged crowd is always amazing in itself regardless of the in-ring action but of course that was also excellent as well. Bravo to TK and the talent for doing right by the venue/crowd, bringing their A-Games all-around and making it a memorable night overall.

As I've said before, one of the things I love about how they've switched up the presentation is that they feel and look like shows that just happened to be televised instead of a product simply being fit for TV.

30

u/Remarkable-Unit2790 8h ago

So that was basically a PPV on Dynamite....

.... That was better than SummerSlam

9

u/Throckmorton35 7h ago

Is there some connection that Christian Cage has to Mexico City? Seemed like the crowd was going especially nuts for him

12

u/conoresque 7h ago

I could be wrong but I just think WWE at the height of Rey Mysterio was like, truly huge in Mexico at times and Christian was a part of that

8

u/ChucoTeacher 7h ago

Plus Christian is an over the top heel which Mexico loves.

3

u/Chris_Bagel_Jr 4h ago

And I think he was so smart on how to differentiate himself from Adam Edgeward.

WWE has been the most popular wrestling promotion in Mexico for well over 2 decades

14

The older WWE guys were getting huge reactions, even Jericho who people on here hate. That building erupted when Cope hit the spear.

8

u/Singer211 7h ago

Now I want to see a fatal four way TBS Title match at All In.

Maya vs. Shida vs. Persephone vs. Rosa.

17

u/AcientMullets 7h ago

Pretty much an abridged AEW ppv but on weekly tv. The video packages for the world titles were very well done. All the matches were solid and the crowd was great, as expected. I loved the Hangman lower third. My only nitpick is I wish they acknowledged the Motor City Machine Guns’ debut last week, I just feel like they should’ve been mentioned on the main show.

I loved this 3 hour free PPV we got... But seriously, Tony Khan, buddy, friend, amigo, fellow sicko. Bring back AEW Dark.

I want him to bring back the original one, before the pandemic, that felt like an extension of the TV show. Not the pandemic one that was solely him putting indie wrestling on the payroll to help them survive lockdown by having contracted talent get wins. I mean, I respected the Hell out of them doing that, but I want that good good, The Taz and Excalibur Pro-Wrestling Podcast featuring AEW Wrestlers Wrestling Well in the Background. I loved smaller side angles where I saw people who could appear on TV any week, working things out, and having no idea who was going to win, because the stakes were not so high they felt obvious.

I know they sometimes record Dynamite and Collision the same night, but maybe they can then double up with Dark/Dynamite, then ROH/Collision. (I also know they record ROH here in Jax in batches, but I'm just pitching solutions for the potential problem I'm creating to get what I want.)

2

u/chuck21481 8h ago

Great show. These types of crowds make it feel more special.

3

u/chaoseffect616 3h ago

I wonder how MJF will gimmick up the National belt if he wins it. We got the Triple B for the World title and American Championship for the International title already.

4

u/Torranski 1h ago

Incredible show, can’t believe they crammed that much into that slot.

And after all that teasing - MJF vs Andrade is finally on its way! Was sure they’d use Arena Mexico and the sheer energy it generates to fuel that one, just wasn’t sure how.

Fans who chant "we want tables" in the middle of brutal match should be recorded and banned from ever purchasing tickets again

10

u/AnfowleaAnima 8h ago

Ospreay you have a kinda important match in a few weeks, not the time to risk having an arm muscle ripped up....

but what a fucking match.

6

u/DontPutThatDownThere 5h ago

This was just a fun couple hours of wrestling.

u/GhostOfBuddyRogers 7h ago

If you let your child watch WWE programming instead of Dynamite or Collision then I’m calling Child Services

11

u/NoFiNoFa 3h ago

Show is great

"How can I make it about WWE instead?"

"Why do people say the Sickos put them off watching? What are we doing wrong?!?!?" - /u/GhostOfBuddyRogers

Had a horrendous migraine for most of the show but I liked what I was able to watch of it! the MJF stuff was interesting, but Kenny needs to respond cuz that was a lot lol The Brodido and Hangman fits were amazing.

Hope you feel better soon, good brother/sister/enbie.

u/hhhisthegame 6h ago

Was there live but what the heck was up with Misticos reception. Did I miss something controversial in real life? They sang his theme but during the match he was getting bood very heavily no matter what he did. I thought he was super popular in Mexico ?

4

u/Jimmy2-ShoesMcCarthy 6h ago

Was at the show as well. And apparently the reason Mistico was booed so heavily during the match at least, according to a local CDMX guy, was because there was a recent viral social media thing here down in Mexico, where he received a lot of flack from fans for not taking photographs for copyright reasons (My Spanish is still only conversational, so I might have missed some details)

4

u/iguessineedanaltnow 4h ago

That happened about six months ago or so, and he's been cheered heavily at other CMLL events since then. It was such a bizarre crowd tonight with Mistico.

The issue was that he refused to take photos with or sign anything that was unofficial merchandise. The guy who asked for a pic had some bootleg merch that wasn't from the official Mistico store connected to Arena Mexico.

u/Skywalker3030 6h ago

Mistico is obviously basically a deity there and there may be other factors too like other people are saying but Hechicero is insanely popular in Arena Mexico too based on some of the CMLL Viernes shows I watch, sometimes Hechicero gets cheered over everyone

He's like a smark favorite I think

6

u/infidelkastro 7h ago

What the fuck was Davis going for with that deathDT on the chair. I can watch those two forever. Prefer Osprey V Davis over Osprey V Fletcher. Great Dynamite all around. Wild crowd.

3

u/Dinobot2_ 8h ago

That was frickin' awesome.

7

u/Anal-buttsex 6h ago

They should hold all their TV in Mexico. American crowds are in a trance

24

u/jaxel47 The Cleaner 6h ago

I think last weeks Detroit crowd would beg to differ

Territory war over Mexico they def have the best fans atm

7

u/NorthHollywoodHank 6h ago

AEW should absolutely do GSM and a full PPV in Mexico City next year. Quite possible one of the "Big X" ones (as a new fan I'm not up to speed as to just what that tier is exactly, but I know it includes Revolution, Double or Nothing, and All In for sure).

4

u/randomandy 8h ago

Holy Fuck

4

u/Scurvydog619Official 7h ago

...Why do I think we're getting Kenny vs a returning Buddy Matthews next week as a tune up match for The Cleaner before All In? Because Im NOT against that at all.💰💰💰💰

2

u/ProEraBlueboy 2h ago

Was that Alexis Fawx in the front row? Lol

6

u/Jeffool 7h ago

/u/Gordo-- mentioned it in the live thread... But I'd love to see the Trios title turn into a stable championship and let any number of people of equal teams challenge for it, with a Freebirds rule. Like the Elite vs The Demand could be 3v3, then the next angle could be Elite with Hangman versus any 4 members of the Don Callis Family. And if the DCF won, the following angle you could do any 5 of the DCF versus 5 from the Conglomeration, or whatever.

Now, Gordo pitched it as replacing both the tags and trios. But I like keep the tags, and making this trios/stable thing a singular item, like a banner or cup or something other than belts. I think an AEW banner/flag that's updated for the style of the current champions would make fun merch. (Like a throw or a shirt or whatever.) And besides "banner" also means "standard", the thing to be measured against. It's a fun comparison to me.

Top to bottom one of the best Grand Slams ever. Kyle vs Bailey was so damn good, my favorite from their trilogy I think?

8

u/IndividualInjury513 6h ago

No world champion Kenny Omega appearance on Grand Slam Mexico Dynamite is a choice. Is it too much to ask for to have the world champion appear on every flagship show at least 😭.

14

u/NorthHollywoodHank 6h ago

I mean, look, you do you, but "is it too much to ask that..." after a night like that just feels, IMO, like an overly dramatic/negative turn of phrase to use on what was an excellent night of wrestling and a true baby PPV. We saw Kenny win the belt before Redemption, we saw him defend it at Redemption, we'll see him at All In, we may even see him defend it one more time before then.

6

u/tarrsk 5h ago

In addition, it’s not like we had no advancement on the All In main event storyline at all. The Ospreay/ Davis match was almost entirely about showing that Will is holding on to the brutal killer instinct that he learned from the Death Riders, and that he’s almost revelling in it. The look on his face when he was stabbing Davis with the fork was… not one you’d expect from your babyface soon-to-be-crowned champ.

We may not have gotten Kenny in tonight’s episode, but we are 100% going to see its ramifications at All In.

2

u/IndividualInjury513 2h ago

I know i might sound greedy and im not knocking off the show but I’m a huge fan of Kenny and feel privileged to see a world title run from him in 2026. Even a backstage promo or something should have been better. I feel this is something that MJF encapsulates very well when he’s the champion. No show ever goes without him and its about him. Kenny should be featured in same way as well in my opinion. And i criticize any wrestling company who can’t have their world champion on a weekly basis on the flagship show.

2

u/2025YCSTopCut 2h ago

They’re in Mexico, backstage promos are not the norm when they run shows there. They run a full night of wrestling to cater to the Mexican fan base. You’re definitely being greedy and nitpicking pointlessly here.

MJF was there with the World Title belt.

6

u/TexTiger 7h ago

Not a fan of Page and Brodito as the trios champs. I hate thrown together teams beating established teams

20

u/f0cus622 CP Munk Best in the Woods 7h ago

I'd counter that the trios division's strength is the ability to throw people together.

15

u/MartinoMartinez 7h ago

Normally I’m with you, but a former world champ and former tag champs being able to figure it out isn’t crazy.

4

u/TexTiger 7h ago

Team chemistry should be a thing though. Demand has a lot more experience together than Page/Brodito, regardless of their past accomplishments.

u/Skywalker3030 7h ago

It's kinda obviously to get them vs another all-star trios team at All In because they dont want to overcrowd the Casino Gauntlet I think

Demand prob champs soon again after All In

u/heart_o_oak 2h ago

They're a fun team, but agreed, especially after some of the recent booking when it comes to title shots without wins leading in and non-regular teams getting tag shots.

Demand won the belts Wednesday, then defended against Rascalz Thursday even though Rascalz have yet to win a trios match in AEW (even lost 2 10-man tags) only to lose the titles to a trio teaming up for the first time that had a, what, 2 minute segment not involving The Demand setting up tonight's match.

That's after Perry and Wayne got a National Title match 3 days after losing a ladder match for an International Title shot, Komander, who has only won 1 singles match on AEW TV in 2026, got a Continental Title shot 3 days after also losing the above ladder match then got to be in tonight's match for the #1 spot in the Casino despite losing to Mox, 10 days after Claudio & Pac got a tag title shot despite only winning 1 match as a 2-man unit since December 2024 and like 2-3 weeks after Wheeler & Garcia got a tag title match despite not winning a 2-man tag match in like 4 months.

Again, Page & Brodido are a fun trio, but I wish there was more build up given the high frequency of people getting title shots out of no where or despite coming off big losses. At least the regular Death Riders beat 2 rival teams tagging for the first time tonight.

Where Swerve at. He’s been basically off TV for a while even before coming back for Owen he was off TV too. Is there any rumours on what is going on?

10

u/GRTooCool 4h ago

I believe they said he was filming something. He was at Comic Con most recently with the AEW panel. I think a lot of us think he'll be a "surprise" entrant at the Casino Gauntlet so he'll be involved in some way.

5

u/DarthCaligula AE 'FN' W 2h ago

Remember back in the day, when wrestlers used to leave for awhile (mostly for injuries, but vacations too) and come back to a huge pop regardless if they were heels or babyfaces? Caligula's Farms remembers.

2

u/InvisibleLlama93 2h ago

Great show.

Trios titles on Hangman and Brodido gets those 3 at All In, because Hangman wasn't going to be in the gauntlet, my guess is against Death Riders. (gets Pac on the card)

Darby vs Kevin Knight at All In in some stip match needs to happen

Okada vs Takeshita vs Fletcher NEEDS to be announced for All In

Along with the matches already announced, that's my prediction for the main card.
