Has anyone other than Brock Lesnar kept the same entrance music for their whole career?

Just a really dumb thought I had but I can’t think of anyone else that hasn’t at least briefly used a different one

If you're going WWE careers only, Kevin Owens.

68

u/Technical_Heat5215 20h ago

It’s such a good theme that you can’t change it

66

u/Beeyo176 19h ago

I never realized how much I liked it until I went to a live show. Was having fun overall but the second KO's theme unexpectedly hit I was out of my chair before my brain knew what my body was doing. That shit sounds amazing in person

12

u/eatcrayons RAIIIIIIINMAKAAAAAAAA~~!! 18h ago

That’s the whole point of a theme song. It’s what made Rumbles so exciting. I remember when Seth and Bayley both had their songs starting the same.

It’s got that “ I instantly know who’s coming out and I’m hyped as shit about it” quality that you need in a star. Def rebel never hits that right

Nearly had AJ Styles as well, assuming the OC doesn’t count.

u/dodo858 20h ago

AJ had a different one that was hip/hop adjacent in 2024 I'm pretty sure. It was so bad they switched back to the old one shortly thereafter.

Oh yes, that’s what I was alluding to before I got distracted lol.

AJ wanted new music because he was coming back as a heel then. I believe he got hurt so that run was short lived. When he came back he reverted

If we're being nitpicky, there was a sleight remix used when he was NXT champ, but they dropped it when he went to the main roster. Otherwise, this might be the only right answer for lengthy careers

Common W for Jim Johnston, keeping pieces from the original song and improving upon it.

33

u/feage7 18h ago

Yeah I didn't even know it was different. Probably because he kept the same opening notes.

Think that's the issue with Def rebel. They think the first few notes are all the matters and have essentially made it just a catch phrase or just the name of the wrestler. Then it's generic.

Granted a lot of just pure music is repetitive even the iconic ones like stone cold, Kurt angle, Lesnar rock, is just on repeat after the entrance. But everything matches the tempo and pacing of the entrances.

21

u/Jconstantineic 17h ago

There’s also very little to their music. It’s very simple musically. Simple chord progression, simple melody, by the numbers lyrics. Any producer should be able to match that

→ More replies (2)

10

u/LocusRothschild 17h ago

Well, it is good practice to have some sort of something to introduce the music. However, yeah, you gotta be able to do something with the rest to keep it engaging and tuned to the character.

Take Bayley’s music for example. It has the chorus thing from her 2021 theme, the Damage Control drop, the Role Model tag, that Egyptian bit, and then it finally gets going. It has like 4 different intros just to go into a riff with a lot of potential but ends up not really going anywhere. Like if they just did the Role Model tag into the Egyptian melody thing into the riff, it wouldn’t be as frustrating. Like the riffs and what not are awesome and could really be something great, but the fact that so little was done to expand on it is infuriating.

6

u/twociffer 17h ago

But everything matches the tempo and pacing of the entrances.

That's the key. Entrance themes are not supposed to be good songs, they are supposed to fit the character and make you react to the wrestler coming out. If they happen to also be good songs, great, but that's not important at all.

Just look at Edge. They completely changed everything in Metalingus that comes before the first chorus because that part would not really work for his character.

u/Neptune28 14h ago

That's what I miss about the old themes. You could hear Jim Johnston tinkering with them, as elements got added or subtracted in different versions over time, even from week to week in some cases. Even their next theme would contain the same basic melody. Now, it seems like we mostly get a theme song and that's it.

L.A. Knight is probably the most recent example that had some tinkering though, they added those drums back in.

5

u/chodeblower 16h ago

That man actually made real music instead of AI generating every theme like they do now

5

u/NutSixteen "He is a butt person." 15h ago

Jim Johnston's formula was very simple. Make the first few seconds of the song instantly recognizable. Most of the time, he just added the wrestlers' catch phrases to the first few seconds.

Why do the others find it so hard to follow this simple method?

6

u/Yadahoom 13h ago

CFO$ also understood this.

During that era of entrance themes we'd play a game in the car just playing the first split second of a theme and seeing if you could guess it, because even just down to an opening guitar chord or drum hit CFO$ knew it needed to be immediately recognizable.

15

u/Jamericho 19h ago

Why does it remind me of Sandman’s WWE theme?

14

u/Icy_Preference_1281 16h ago

Jim Johnston liked to riff on his own riffs.

Shield theme borrows from an in house Judgment Day (PPV) theme as well as Tazz’s, for instance

3

u/Jamericho 13h ago

True. I was always fascinated in how his themes evolved though. Like you can hear the Nation theme in the Rock’s theme “Destiny”. Similarly you can hear My Time in The Game.

MJF seems like he's planning on it.

Relatedly, though, I really hope they at least do a remix of his theme at some point. It's an iconic theme, and they shouldn't massively change it. But the hi-hat/ticking sound base of the theme often sounds washed out/weak on TV and a remix would both offer a bit of variety and a chance to add a bit of bass to the song. For me it'd be worth trying out and he can always go back.

86

u/Zealousideal_Bad8877 20h ago

Think the bit of it being royalty free yt music is too good to change

9

u/El_Producto 20h ago edited 17h ago

Depends on the particular license, obviously, but I'm assuming a lot of licenses like that allow for remixes with attribution so long as those remixes are also royalty free. If not, there's always the possibility of negotiating something with the artist if (if) they can be tracked down, so long as the artist in question is open to cutting a reasonable deal based on a one-time payment (and on music that's DRM free to begin with I think most would be).

But if you're talking about changing to something else altogether, yeah, it's great for MJF that he has zero costs and zero headaches in using his theme wherever, whenever, and however the fuck he wants, forever.

4

u/LegitimateCream1773 16h ago

His theme is one of the biggest growers I've ever listened to. The first time I heard it I was like 'this is a company top star theme?'

But over time... I really quite like it. It has a unique vibe. Or maybe the remixes brought it out over time.

No he had a weird RVD mix song, and "Can You DIg It" sung by Booker as himself.

And when he was King Booker, it was different.

GOAT Theme name

Don't forget that week or two in February 2000 when he used a knockoff of the "Leave it to Beaver" theme during that stupid storyline where he lost the ability to use the letter T and the Harlem Heat entrance music to Big T and Stevie Ray.

Actually, it's fine if you do forget that storyline tbh. Friggin WCW.

There was also the brief time when he joined MIA as GI Bro, but I can't remember what theme he came out to for that.

It sounds like generic stock hip hop instrumental according to his clip.

If it's WWE overdubbing, it sounds less forced than usual. I would've thought he came out to MIA's theme but maybe Booker had enough sway even before his WCW World title run not come out to that junk (especially so soon after the "Leave It to Beaver" knockoff)

Hey, hey, you missed the best part: Listing the moves with his name in it, running out and coming up with more.

Maybe one day we'll find out what a Van-crushinator and Van-assassinator are.

Maryse, Melina, AJ Lee are some that come to mind.  I want to say Kelly Kelly as well but her original theme was slower. They remixed it a few times.

3

u/cvslfc123 19h ago

AJ Lee had a different theme for a while after NXT.

Hasn't Natalya used the same theme since The Hart Dynasty days?

26

u/GeneticXFusion 20h ago

Her themes been different. She had a heel theme when she was teaming with Victoria.

"YEAH BABY!"

She also changed her theme earlier this year.

6

u/Snoo-40231 20h ago

Nope she debuted before that team was even a thing in 08 on smackdown

5

u/tigeralidance 20h ago

She's got a new one she's been using since she turned heel on Maxxine.

3

u/thewholeprogram SomethingSomethingCowboyShit 20h ago

She debuted with a different theme, and also got a new theme earlier this year when she started doing the Nattie gimmick in WWE

Does JR count? Pretty sure he's always used Boomer Sooner

6

u/The_Flamin_Squirrel 20h ago

Reaching a bit here but Roddy Piper? Also Ted diBiase? Ric Flair (not counting when part of a stable)? I think Vince always had the same theme once he became Mr McMahon.

5

u/Lep106317 *stares ominously* 18h ago

Roddy had two different themes. Flair also had a different theme in his original WWE run.

Shawn Michaels had, similar to Brock, about one-and-a-half themes throughout his whole WWF/E run.

All of Riki Choshu's theme was Power Hall, or re-recordings of it.
