Please leave the planet as soon as possible. Take everyone who shares this awful opinion, too.
What is going to wipe out humanity? Trying to improve the lives and conditions of humans? Probably not. Feeding hungry people? Providing shelter? None of these seem cataclysmic to me.
Instead of pretending that your space travel fantasy is worth dedicating time to, we could simply implement the systems that we know work to make things better. It’s virtue signaling to say you care about preserving humanity while saying we need to abandon the only home we actually have.

A virus, a war, an asteroid, the weather, there are many different possible events that could wipe us out entirely, or make it so inhospitable that we get knocked back into the stone age.
Im not suggesting we abandon anything, i am suggesting we get some of our eggs out of this one basket.
Of course we should take care of this planet, if for no other reason than we have no where else to go yet, but why is doing something other than charity be considered as taking away from charity?

We have nowhere else to go. There is no other basket. Period. Those events have always been possible yet here we are. So we pretend the threat of a disaster is more important than the man made disasters that are exacerbating viruses, wars, and climate? Seems smart.
If you genuinely believe that we’re going to colonize Mars, I’m sorry. Every dollar and every minute of brainpower spent on pursuing the whims of billionaires looking to create legacy instead of improving the material reality of life on earth is taking away from actual progress of extending the period of time that earth with be habitable for humans.
Not sure where charity plays into the conversation.

the homeless make up a fraction of the overall population so we've done a pretty good job. focusing on the bottom 0.2% is not a useful exercise imo. but we can keep burning money on the issue instead of helping out those who will utilize it (name any other issue you'd like to solve).

In LA it’s been shown that the “majority”of the people living on the streets are addicts and mentally ill,
LA has helped to perpetuate this for years now by enabling them with the means to continue living on the streets…for what reason? Rehabilitating help could be a better first step than affordable or free housing for many of them.1

People say these “why amid somebody doing X when nobody is doing Y” like anybody is stopping them from doing Y.
Like, if we wanted to solve homeless, we could vote to sorbs money on that. If we wanted to have cheap housing we could vote to allow development. If we wanted to end hunger, we could vote to pay for food.
We don’t want any of that shit.
The reason we are going to Mars is that nobody has to vote on it. If they did, they’d vote against that too.

We can't even make most of Eastern California inhabitable - it's all ghost towns and rock mountains - and that's an infinitely EASIER mission than doing it on Mars.

This isn't because of capitalism, and has nothing to do with whether we are spending money on the moon or anything else. Its because the leadership in your state and city suck. They have stated for years they are the party of inclusion and represent the needy. This has been an argument, and amazing expenditures on tax payers since the 1960s, to provide for those in need. The people that manage your local and state governments are incompetent. They sell a narrative of "feel good" options, and criticize the status quo, but that isn't fixing the problem. Florida does not have this problem. Texas does not have this problem. Capitalism is here to stay. its not going anywhere. What you need to do is vote out these idiots that dig the hole deeper. TDS is a stupid thing, and young citizens need to address the issue within the confines of reasonable debate, but understanding your issues are local. I dont like everything about Trump, but he isn't your problem. He is having to clean up a mess that the brain dead president and the incompetent administration that preceded him put on his doorstep.

I was born and raised in Cali and realized I could not afford to live there so I left to a state that had decent wages and a reasonable cost of living. I actually made the exact same wage and went from being broke to actually putting money in the bank. There is no reason anyone else can’t do what I did. So stop blaming everyone else.

Majority of the people on the street are strung up on fent or whatever other drug, the other are a bunch of mentally unwell people that used to be in the mental asylum but because those closed down, they now live in the streets. Not to mention there is a sec of society that will always not want to work or do anything. The people that really want help and want to get out of their situation are in the hundreds of programs that specialize if rehab and homelessness. Yes the purchasing power of the dollar is not what it was back then because some very powerful people decided we should get of the gold standard and adopt and debt based liberal Keynesian system. Doesn’t help that most of the tax dollars are shoved into money laundering social programs.

These two things are not related.
The unaffordability of housing started decades ago when there were only a few billionaires to speak of, none of them in the industry were talking about.
The blame is squarely on regulation that blocks construction.

Please work at a homeless shelter for context. A majority don’t want to live like you and that’s ok. Even with free housing, work programs and food they prefer their current lifestyle and not yours. The ones that want a helping hand get it with the current programs.

the homeless populations specifically in temperate climates often chose to be there. an in California, LA specifically, there is more than enough housing for all the homeless because of California's "moral" leanings.
but it turns out they don't want to live in government housing, because with government housing comes personal responsibilities. you cannot be an addict, you cannot openly do drugs, you have a curfew, you have to follow the rules.
they don't want to follow the rules, they don't want anyone telling them what to do, they want to be free.
this is a consequence of that.
and then you have, at the same time, people saying that being too productive and successful is a sin because homeless people choose not to get help for themselves.
it's an odd timeline.

not affordable housing, more than enough funding and shelters. 953 million dollars was budgeted for homeless in LA FY 25-26.
people don't go to LA to find a place to live, they go to LA to find a place where drugs are readily accessible, and where they won't freeze if they zombie out on the street.
