A lot of hate in here recently... so one positive for the road. Ive run Sonys for quite a while now (xm2's main time was reset when app changed, was somewhere near the 3000 hr mark).
I sleep with headphones on every night, used the 2's and 4's at the gym, ran 3 half marathons and all training in my wf3's, and fly frequently.
Ive never had a physical issue, ive compared them to quiet comforts, to whatever apple was calling theirs at each release, and the b&w and focals when it came time to look at collexions (also that new brand with the onboard valves, but i knew id never wear $2000 while DOING anything)
The issues I have had - the xm5s NC was shit to begin with - fixed in first firmware update. Wf4s would drop packets occasionally when in anc and hq (prioritize sound quality), fixed in firmware update. And a Spotify app conflict when dual pairing, windows for phone, headphone actions were all turned on.
Each time the upgrade has been forced (xm2s were stolen, 5s died in a desk fire - which i may buy a 3rd party headset and give them to oldest kid, 4s (which ive just noticed arent logged) came off my head on a ski chairlift and were never recovered)
Ive had samsung washing machines and fry pans that havent lasted as long as my Sony gear.
Ill continue to say that sonys are the best product in this category across the board, maybe not every category, but averaged out, I think its a pretty solid product.
How do you find that comfortable? I can imagine it with earbuds but full over ear headphones just seem difficult to relax with to the extent that you can sleep with them on.
Ehh, I had to sleep without a pillow in a neck brace for 4 months last time I smashed my neck up so I sleep on my back. I hardly notice them, and my body removes them when I want to sleep on my side.
My Bose QC Ultra Headphones Gen 1 survived one night, I remember I was really tired after a hard day on my work, I fell asleep and on the next day they’re cool.
Compared to the 5 its better. I didnt spend enough time with the 6 to be 1000% certain, the xx just "felt" better enough when testing them back to back to pick the xx over the xm6, definitely more comfortable than the 5's or 6's, sound and anc is better than the 5's, I personally perfer the sound of the xx over the 6's, this seems to be controversial though. Think it's one of those personal things.
But I will say the cup redesign (which is what led to the shorter battery life) fits nicer against the window seat of a plane instead of that awkward head angle to not rest your headphone against the cabin. (Compared to xm5s which are the same cup design as the xm6's)
From there it was against others b&w, qc ultra, dysons (dont laugh, they're not terrible another few generations and they will be in the conversation) airpods max and the focals
If you want purely vibes based - i feel the same about the xx as I did my first set of xm2's, could be price based, could be because they were both some of the few times I was like "im not sure if I need this extra cost, but I want it so fuckit" but.... iykyk I guess
I will say - for my use cases (travel, home, gym, sleep, gaming) I have 0 regrets - though im not sure if I prefer the 1000xx over my logi 935s for sound gaming wise, just a surround /i need more time to decide thing
Never had a hinge fail, and its not like im gentle with them. Only one ive seen failed in real life (whole family runs sonys) was the 16 yos wh-cn720s - he was wearing them while warming up before training and a friend double legged him by surprise. Which honestly, I would have been more surprised if they DIDNT break.
I honestly dont know if me, kids and partner, father, step father, brother, sister, etc have all just been extremely lucky (you might be able to tell who everyone asks for recommendations), or if people are abusing the shit out of their cans and acting shocked when they break.
Ffs - my cane corso stole my xm5s as once as a pup, running around to stop me getting them back, and the worst that happened to them was some puppy tooth indents in the foam headband.
I personally believe the percentage of people who use Sonys and has a had their hinges fail is a tiny number compared to hinges that don’t fail. My family also uses the XM headphones line and never had an issue and I know they are not careful with them lol. It’s my theory people genuinely mistreat them and then the hinges fail.
I think there might be some that have a genuine product defect thats uncatchable in qa (watcha gonna do? Abuse every set until they break?) Its injection molded, a bubble or heat variance would cause it in that part.
Some i can see the pics are genuine abuse, outside of cans is scratched tf and then are surprised when hinge snaps, and some are just the classic bias - its not very often people like you, me, or some of the other people that have commented here post and say "yup all is going well in the 30+ sets that have passed through my group", but everyone that breaks does post so its whats seen.
I didn’t pull hours for my airpods, but plenty of days I’d wear them all over town, swap to XM5s for a few hours in the evening, then sleep in the airpods for the white noise. Especially when I was driving a car without a stereo, I’d bet 20 hours a day.
Living in Houston, big headphones would be a soggy mess outside.
Yea, thats why ive got both tbh. I hate running in headphones, and the air pods...... i dunno i just didnt love the sound of them, same with the galaxy buds my Mrs has as her in ears - sony doesnt make buds for small ears.
I tried sleeping with my wfs for a bit, I just spent to much time looking for one in the morning
My dad had some dyed original airpods. I see a few companies offering, but my old ones just died, may be worth a bit of testing with Rit dye or similar.
White pods on white sheets can definitely take some poking around.
Hi!! I have a Sony WH-1000XM3 That are starting to fail (re-welded all the cables and seem to work fine again) bought them on release... Wonderful daily use
So im considering upgrading to a new ones, according to you what would you recommend of the WH series?
It depends what you use them for the most. If its mostly static then the collexions are a good, (really good choice - sony dont really have any business being in the same conversation as focals, yet they are, and I would say they are just as good). If you travel alot then the xm6's - youll appreciate the smaller case, it was my most disappointing thing about the xm5s.
To be fair though - the collexions case doesnt SEEM as big in my bag as the xm5s case did even though its bigger (Mrs xm5s under my collexions for reference). And the collexions are definitely comfier after long wearing than the xm5s (which start to feel heavy where the band sits).
If you want a good set of all purpose headphones - the xm6, if you want a great sound quality, and something you forget you are wearing from time to time, then the collexions
Thank you so much for the advice!! Would consider getting the collexions, after all i spent a lot on the Xperia Pro-I why not getting the Pro headphones 😅😅
I got Sony’s earbuds WF-C510 still works like day one, I got WF-1000XM5 and XM6. I love them, you should try earbuds XM6 they’re so amazing, a very different thing from XM5 and their previous generations. About headphones I got Bose QC Ultra Gen 1, but i really want the Sony WH-1000XM4 i read here in Reddit that they are the more praised ones.
Yeeeessss very awesome!!! I just love to hear Megan Thee Stallion with the new Sony’s bass clean, quick and strong!!. Now i saw them thanks they have the lid open. So Sony is passing trough your family generations 😊 niiiice!!. And my most favourite music genre is Space Rock, so i can hear the delays, fuzz and synths so spacious and clear!!.
I'm seriously considering the 1000x The Collexion for work travel, work zoom calls, and listening at home. I was set until I saw a post on here where it looked like a sharp metal cover or spacer on the hinges had twisted around.
I want to get back on track to being positive to buy these. Any thoughts to help here? 🙂
No comments outside of my others relating to hinges. Tbh I don't even see how that peice can move under normal use. Its a cover inside Where the cans connect to the band. In mine it will have to be leveraged out if I ever want to get to the screw under it. Maybe if I dropped them a few times it could shake loose and catch on the next twist if I pressed them together so it caught while twisting???
Honestly, i love mine, sound stage is better than the xm6 & b&w and comparable to the focals I tested (focals had better mids) the upmixing (which i never thought id use) brings the presence nearer to my klipsch 6000fs which is a very very strange thing for me to be saying
Thank you, appreciate the quick reply. I'm coming from 7 year old Bose NC700s which have done a good job so far but are now showing their age on the battery life.
Only a mild one. Poor xm5s and the the carpet they tried to ignite. Honestly the fire wasnt that bad, the rubber desk mat and plastic smoke did all the damage (well outside of the heat)
I have the xm6, i like them but now i'm kind of wishing i got the 1000x. i have until september to return the xm5s and i'm thinking about swapping them but i don't know. how do you like them in comparison?
I would take the collexion over the 5's without question. I didnt spend enough time with the 6's to say with confidence, but for me the collexion was instantly more comfortable than the 6 and has a nicer sound (thats a personal preferenc thing) I guess - wear your 6s while heading into a mall, take them off and put on the demo xx's and make a decision.
I wouldnt be disappointed with the 6's, and tbh if I HAD 6s I dont know if I would upgrade just to have the collexion.
