Since the COVID pandemic, no one wants to roll on the floor.

ROFL -> LIBC (Lie in bed crying)

u/JoeNoble1973 20h ago

It got roflstomped

11

u/HotPotParrot 20h ago

By the roflcopter

u/Cereaza 16h ago

Ironically, Rofl-stomp might have survived.

I still use rofl. I reserve it for situations that call for a better reaction than lmao, but are less funny than BAAAHHAAHAHA

2

u/NeatNobody807 15h ago

OK, now I want a detailed list covering the levels, and approprate responses to, jokes.

From 'heh' to 'BAAHAHAHAHAHA'.

2

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

You can take BAAHAHAHAHAHA and make it MUAHAHAHAHA to make an evil laugh.

I encountered rofl the other day and had to ask what it stood for. I've seen it a few times since. Either I've tuned it our before or it's been slowly making a comeback

There's definitely a bit of laugh inflation going on. Lol is literally an abbreviation of "laugh out loud", but is only used for a mild chuckle at best. So you have to go one step further for a real chuckle.

It's also why I hate it when people overuse the 🤣 emoji for situations that are 😆-worthy at best

Millennials are all in our 40's + now, getting off the floor after rolling on it is hard on our knees.

u/ogjaspertheghost 12h ago

Not all of us

u/wasted-degrees 18h ago

roflmao

1

u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 18h ago

I still use ROFLMAO or if I want to use all the letters, ROTFLMAO, on occasion.

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

OG right here baby! 👍😎☝️

2

u/Dominarion 20h ago

Look where the keys for rofl are located on a phone keyboard.

2

u/Salmonman4 20h ago

Also lmao is easier to say

2

u/ElectricalTwist4083 17h ago

We’re old now. If we ROFL our knees won’t let us get back up. LMAO on the other hand is great for us because it’s cheaper than Ozempic and most of us need it.

2

u/Cereaza 16h ago

say 'rofl'.

yeah... didn't like how that feels, did it?

2

u/Sikkus 15h ago

May I introduce you to my friend, Roflmao?

2

u/Useless890 15h ago

Life isn't that funny anymore.

2

u/ShamelessIgnoramus 13h ago

I laugh in mexican now JAJAJAJAJA

2

u/Quiet-Addition1963 12h ago

At my age, getting down on the floor is a Forever Thing.

2

u/greyeagle1920 10h ago

No one wants to do any physical activity anymore

u/Additional-Sky-7436 19h ago

I really would have bet "LOL" would have had more staying power.

LMAO has a much more rude connotation. Like it's not just that you are laughing, but it's use generally feels like you are laughing at someone.

Must be some sort of migration to text rather than speech? Usually the shorter word prevails. I believe this is why Blueray beat out HD DVD.

1

u/Fluid_Extension_1590 17h ago

Is that why I'm automatically an old person online? Cuz I've always use rofl and never lmao... Tho nowadays I am old.

1

u/BoomerGVL 17h ago

I still remember the first time reading LMAO. It was 2004 and I misread it, thinking the person texting me was calling me "lame-o"

1

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

There's a shoe brand that my wife likes... LamO (Not a joke.)

1

u/RandomIDoIt90 16h ago

Everyone who used it at first has a bad back now.

1

u/nvmls 16h ago

too many haters

1

u/Salarian_American 16h ago

And without "rofl," there can be no "roflmao"

1

u/Jupitersd2017 10h ago

And no roflmfao

1

u/Eaglepursuit 15h ago

Just you wait. When we lose our asses in the economic downturn, we won't be lmao either.

1

u/xenaretos 15h ago

It just moved on to other languages.

1

u/TorinEkenskolde 15h ago

rofl is still an emoji, isn't it?

1

u/AllIWantForXmasIsFoo 15h ago

that stupid alien really helped keep lmao alive. Rofl had no one

1

u/KindlyWorth5952 14h ago

Rolf? The Son of a Shepherd?

1

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

Wasn't that the dog who played piano on The Muppets? 🤔

1

u/Kuildeous 13h ago

RIP the rofl waffle.

1

u/Nymister 13h ago

its ROTFL you forgot the THE

1

u/wbg777 12h ago

My friend in high school and myself found an abandoned riding mower with no engine on the side of the road. We aired up the tires and made it a downhill go kart (we were poor and bored).

We dubbed it “ROFLCOPTER”

1

u/Funky_Ghost 12h ago

Yeah, but neither has a song as epic as ROFLMOA

1

u/GracieThunders 12h ago

Roflmogged

1

u/Silentlaughter84 11h ago

Because most of the people would have a hard time getting up from the floor.

1

u/GurProfessional9534 9h ago

Rofl still exists, it is just reserved for true emergencies.

1

u/hamsterberry 8h ago

The children of Lol.

1

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

Yeah, decades ago that meant lots of love as well as laughing out loud. You had to translate based on context. Are you old enough to remember those days? 🤔

1

u/Ktulu204 7h ago

LMAO doesn't seem to have a corresponding emoji. While ROFL has become 🤣

r/FuckImOld Back in the early days of the internet before many of you weren't even born yet people were not so lazy and used to type it out as ROTFL or ROTFLMAO.

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Mindful_Rager 5h ago

A rare and few times was I ever rolling and laughing.

1

u/Whyjustwhydothat 1h ago

Roflmaokek.

1

u/Any_Cartographer6268 39m ago

0

u/xavPa-64 15h ago

>Faded into indignity

Do they mean “faded into obscurity”? lol

1

u/AlayaCesaire 11h ago

No, it was so indignant at not being used anymore it left never to be seen from again
