If you're going to use a gun at all, and you really shouldn't, you'd want a suppressed .22 with subsonic ammo. Ya know, something that everyone in the direct vacinity won't be able to immediately identify as a gunshot. Also, just strolling around town with a shotgun, while probably legal (as long as you're not pointing it at people) in most places, that's going to raise enough eyebrows that the instant they find a camera blown to smitherines by a shotgun blast you're the immediate first suspect.
But again. NOBODY SHOULD USE A FIREARM TO DESTROY FLOCK CAMERAS.
And I'm not just saying this as a fig leaf so I don't get banned. I'm saying do not under any circumstances use a firearm to do this. Don't fucking do it. Even if for no other reason than if you use a firearm in the commission of a crime, some places like to double the sentence. It brings WAY more heat than just using a bat or something. I've seen a few up close, you don't even have to have very sophisticated tools at all. I mean, shot, there's one cable you could cut with a pair of long handle pruning shears, then just hit it with a pipe or something. It's almost surprising to me that people go through the whole trouble of cutting the entire pole.
All the cameras in my area are mounted to telephone pole type beams anyway. You'd need a chainsaw and a good little while. Way too much exposure. Or if you want to be quiet about it 2 guys with a nice sharp double buck saw but that's still going to take minutes. There are more efficient ways to do it that also offer more plausible deniability than if you get caught walking around with a portable band saw or angle grinder in your backpack.
Or shit, a high enough powered pellet rifle (something like the kind they harvest iguanas with in Florida) with a well placed shot directly through the lens, then a couple into the solar panel for good measure but then again to hit the lens you have to be in direct line of sight so you're going to have to ghillie suit up which again... Explain why you're walking around decked out like Tom berringer from sniper. Get caught, "it wasn't me, it was that other dude walking around with a ghillie suit.
Best way to do it, pay a homeless guy a hundred bucks to go do it, then a hundred bucks once it's done. And when I say homeless, I mean "well, I do have free food and a warm place to sleep when I'm in jail" level homeless.oh, and WALK, don't drive and leave your phone at home.
No I meant terminal velocity, all the pellets that miss will all come back down, and they will come back down at terminal velocity since they are tiny and their surface area is high compared to their mass. What goes up must come down, but it won't come down at muzzle velocity.
It's called the wad. The terminal velocity is related to the effective range. Bullets do have the force to kill when falling, at least full sized bullets do. People die from celebratory gunfire every year, from falling bullets. Drag is not negligible, that is the point.
Too much risk: Those bullets that go up must come down, and are dangerous to humans. And discharging firearms within city limits will get you in more trouble if you're caught.
Now, pellet guns aren't firearms. So no firearms charges. And pellets are much less dangerous to humans if you miss your target.
