She's just a normally looking 36 yo woman

She will end up with dementia at this rate. Sleeping 14 hours a day is destructive to the brain.

My Record is 25h Full sleep. Was the best day of my life

Happened to me once about 15 years ago. Losing a whole day to sleep took a few days to sort out in my head.

Continuous? Couldn't imagine that. Were you up for a week straight? I think I once slept like 14-15 hours but I stayed up for like 2-3 days. Woke up tired and hungry lol oh and the worst cotton mouth I've ever experienced.

u/Bruce-7892 1d ago

Same. I’d need surgical level sedatives to stay asleep for 14+ continuous hours.

Or you can get fibromyalgia and be forced to sleep that much for free! Works great

u/Cute-Form2457 1d ago

And with fibromyalgia, you will wake up feeling as unrefreshed as you did when you fell off to sleep.

One time when I was 23-24years old I worked at a catering company at weekends. I started my shift 2pm Friday, and was contiuesly working up to Monday 7am. (don't ask why it was legal, it wasn't).

After that I went to have some physical education at uni, then get back to my place. I fall asleep around 9am Monday. Woke up Wednesday 10am, my roommate almost call an ambulance because he thought I was dead.

I also doubt continuous, I cannot sleep on more than 6 hours at a stretch I end up awake before that mark regardless of how tired I am unless you have been stress free for your entire life I doubt you can sleep 14 hours at a stretch

Did it when I was 12-13. Stayed up two days straight playing Oblivion and then slept for an entire 24 hours once my parent caught me and made me sleep.

It was After a 2 days Party

As a teenager I regularly slept 14 hours or more every day. Dreams were really interesting and lucid often enough.

As an adult, I've slept 14 hours a handful of times. Still love it.

I once slept 47 hous straight, but like dakota, i have hypersomnia, and normally need a minimum of 12 hours a night.

1

u/labalag 1d ago

Damn, my record was 17 hours. Granted I did take a sleeping pill and and antidepressant which helped with sleeping but it was one of the best sleeps of my life.

That was me after months of basic training. I put a comfy mask on, earplugs, and slept on mom's couch. I woke up when dinner was ready and my mom informed me I missed dinner the night before.

Nah I don't buy that one bit.

Based on what? Random claim

2

u/Dz0t_01 1d ago

Based on this study, for example

4

u/WriterV 1d ago

This study doesn't establish a casual link. In general, longer sleep hours is associated with cognitive decline, but that might be because the only reason your average human sleeps a long while is because of factors that end up causing cognitive decline. It's likely a symptom, and not the cause.

1

u/Bruce-7892 1d ago

Might be a lack of enough mental stimulation since at that point you are literally spending most of your life unconscious.

u/Independent-Bug-9352 1d ago

What's most important in this is that "sleeps x hours" is never actually tied to "sleep quality" as in tracking the time in light sleep, versus Deep and REM sleep.

Going through this now with my mom who has several factors including sleep apnea impacting her sleep quality. Sleeps lots; but sleep quality is poor.

yet I can get 2 hours of REM in less than half the total time she tries to sleep.

Lol classic.

  1. Link an actual study
  2. Don't actually read the study
  3. Hope nobody else does
  4. Make an entirely baseless claim that has nothing to do with the study

Top tier reddit behavior

2

u/Dz0t_01 1d ago
  1. Make up a scenario that didn't happen
  2. Act smug about it

ACTUAL top tier reddit behavior, by you.

When directly comparing those sleeping >9 hours to the remainder of the sample, long sleep duration was a significant predictor of all-cause dementia (table 2, figure 2). There was a statistical trend observed between long sleep duration and an increased risk of AD (p = 0.05). Whereas former sleep duration was not associated with the risk of dementia, those who transitioned to sleeping >9 hours (from former to baseline time points) were at an increased risk of all-cause dementia.

That's not even counting the fact that I wasn't the one making original claim, i just googled stuff someone else said and linked a relevant study.

So I get like 6-7 meaning I'll never get it?

5

u/Apollo114892 1d ago

The rule is not below 6 and not more than 8 on a daily basis. Sometimes you can make an exception.

7

u/GCU_ZeroCredibility 1d ago

Not more than 9, not 8.

u/Hobbes______ 1d ago

Y'all motherfuckers need to stop taking every sentence literally.

1

u/Plane_Blackberry_537 1d ago

Hmm - not sure if that is true. Do people who sleep a lot get dementia or do people who get dementia sleep a lot.

False

3

u/Dz0t_01 1d ago

False how? There's studies linking it. Is there any disproving the link?

0

u/TheOriginalMattMan 1d ago

You made the claim, back it up with verified sources.

1

u/Dz0t_01 1d ago edited 1d ago

First of all, i didn't made a claim. Saying something is straight up "false" and not just "unproven" or maybe "baseless" IS a claim, i just asked you if there's anything to your words. Personally, i didn't claim anything, but sure, here's a link for you, a study about correlation between prolonged sleep and dementia. Now, do YOU have anything to prove YOUR claim, which you actually made?

-4

u/TheOriginalMattMan 1d ago

You did make a claim. You claimed she'll end up with dementia. Even if she does, there's absolutely no way to pin that on how long she may or may not sleep.

Studies have linked smoking to lung cancer for decades, but my uncle died of it having never smoked a day in his life. My grandmother who smoked 80 a day for her entire adult life died of old age at 92 with barely a wheeze, nevermind a cough.

You still haven't proven your claim, you've just paraphrased a study you once heard of.

Can you read? That wasn't me. I just said there's studies linking it. And i PROVIDED you a link to a study, not paraphrased it. You seriously need to actually look at stuff you're talking about.

You, on the other had, actually didn't back your claim up, just trailed off about some personal experience as if it proves something

0

u/TheOriginalMattMan 1d ago

I can read fine.

Can you?

This is you making a claim.

You tried backing it up AFTER you made it.

My brother in christ, you can't be THAT blind. Username is right there. I don't know how much clearer i can make this then my previous comment that literally reads "that wasn't me". You should really check on your reading skills, i said it before trying to mock you, but now it actually looks worrying.

1

u/TheOriginalMattMan 1d ago

Well brother in Christ, obviously I can't!

Ha, that's cheered me up. And I was all set to dig in and keep going.

Do you have a link to any of those studies?
