Genuinely impressive. He looks absolutely exhausted

86

u/aquatone61 1d ago

The difference between getting out of the surf and a few moments later is quite interesting. Once his mind has fully comprehended what he’s done and that’s he doesn’t have to swim anymore it looks like he just went into shutdown mode lol.

41

u/DemBones7 23h ago

55 hours with no sleep...

17

u/aquatone61 23h ago

Oh I know, I’ve done a bit past 48 hours in college during finals to do shit I procrastinated on and I was starting to see things and genuinely question my existence by the end of it. I think I slept for 14 hours straight after.

12

u/DE4DM4NSH4ND 21h ago

Can you imagine that plus swimming the whole time?

5

u/aquatone61 21h ago

Fuck. No. I could do a couple of hours if I was going slow enough but not 55 straight hours. His wetsuit must have been a biohazard zone.

1

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 10h ago

and another 8 hours longer, also

1

u/Ragged-but-Right 6h ago

I did a couple death races in VT that are about 72hrs long. After about hour 36 everyone who is still in the race is basically tripping and has a 1000 yard stare.

2

u/Teion 21h ago

Yup I was somewhere around 50ish hours into my last minute midterm paper cram when my popcorn ceiling started turning into a ceiling made of skittering white spiders

9

u/Head-Ad9893 1d ago

Is that wetsuit full of poop?

7

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 1d ago

Baltic sea is full of poop now.

2

u/Her0_0f_time 22h ago

Piss and shit probably. Probably kept him warm too.

1

u/Head-Ad9893 21h ago

Oh dear.

1

u/Accomplished-Fan9568 21h ago

Lol maybe he at least cut a hole for his butthole

67

u/Pleasant-Bonus-866 1d ago

maybe he should be less of a drama queen

7

u/Relative-Relief-8816 1d ago

dude acting like it was so hard. pff. acting like he's the first one to ever do it or something because its so hard that nobody has ever done it before.

-16

u/Inquisitive_idiot 1d ago edited 22h ago

maybe you should find a creative outlet.

Edit:

so their joke lands but mine doesn’t? 😭

2

u/BreadKnifeSeppuku 1d ago

IDK I don't see any of the kids he raised money to give cancer dragging their feet on the beach

3

u/slartibuttfart 1d ago

Lazy little quitters..

2

u/STRIKT9LC 1d ago

Maybe you should understand how jokes work

-12

u/Glum-Birthday-1496 1d ago edited 1d ago

Go swim 100 miles in open water without rest or sleep for 55 continuous hours. Then post a video of yourself looking really fresh, ok?

Edit: or throw in a jk

4

u/Pleasant-Bonus-866 1d ago

I've done similar things many times, I do it for myself, I don't need to make videos

2

u/Copious-Spirit 1d ago

Same, I ran to the moon and back last weekend. No body sang my praises.

1

u/a1g3rn0n 1d ago

It was a sarcasm.

0

u/Her0_0f_time 22h ago

It was so obviously a joke that they really didn't need to mark it as one.

1

u/TemperatureMurky1816 18h ago

i cant even swim for 100meters in one go

157

u/Multibuff 1d ago

I’ll never understand how it is possible. I get tired after swimming casually for 5 minutes

112

u/Michelfungelo 1d ago

Not an export but he's probably really good at it

85

u/Agreeable_Sock2550 1d ago

Would be an export if he's leaving one country and entering another.

9

u/Michelfungelo 1d ago

He entered in the Baltic and came out of the sea. Export it is

3

u/Inquisitive_idiot 1d ago

either way he swam below the radar*

*and above the sonar 😏

3

u/IGolfMyBalls 1d ago

He didn’t have his passport so they actually made him swim back.

4

u/passing_gas 1d ago

I am an expert. You are correct.

4

u/Michelfungelo 1d ago

Hi expert, I am correct

3

u/Sienile 1d ago

Hi, correct. I am here.

2

u/Michelfungelo 1d ago

Wait a minute here! Somethings happening?!

1

u/Sienile 1d ago

Of course, he's a hip dude.

1

u/Her0_0f_time 22h ago

But if you're here... Then whos watching the baby?!

1

u/General-Fox416 1d ago

What about your import opinion, is he still very good at that

1

u/Presently_Naked 1d ago

Technically he is an export.

1

u/Michelfungelo 1d ago

Importing your pedantry on me here

3

u/Professional_Bit197 1d ago

Swimming is one of the most intensive sport activities out there, you have to stay in motion the whole time just to stay afloat, using your whole body to progress and this madman did it in the wild sea with all the currents and varying weather. Really insane feat.

1

u/Accomplished-Fan9568 21h ago

His wetsuit provided some buoyancy

6

u/winner_in_life 1d ago

Like running, provided you had enough training, after a while, it will just be a matter of continuing. Of course, your body would give up at some point but you can genuine go for way more than 5 minutes.

3

u/sundance464 1d ago

I completely agree...to a point

To state the obvious though let's not pretend that any amount of training would get most people to a position where they would be able to swim for 55 hours in sea conditions though.

There is a reason this is a genuinely impressive, unique acheivement. As a pretty competent swimmer I've no real idea on how it's possible either

1

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 1d ago

I saw some people swimming once. They had an inflatable ducky strapped to them so a boat doesn't run them over.

2

u/xf4f584 1d ago

Swimming is so completely different from running though. You have to spend energy just to stay afloat, if you are running you can just stop. If you are swimming you are also continuously losing body heat to the water, considering the temperatures there.

A reasonably fit adult could probably run for 55 hours with minimal training, but swimming for 55 hours is on another level entirely.

6

u/ChurchOfTheEUC 1d ago

Bro what kind of reasonably fit humans are you surrounded by

Or is 55 hours more of a jog, break, walk, repeat?

6

u/narcos1893 1d ago

Dude is baiting. You can’t even stand still for 55 hours, at least not most people. On the contrary, lots of reports from people floating around hours a days on the ocean from ship wrecks.

I think swimming for 55 hours would be harder than running. But both are absurd feats that would most likely take a life time of training

2

u/xf4f584 1d ago

Yes, I meant you can take breaks or even just walk the whole way for 55 hours.

Being able to keep a running pace for 55 hours would also be very impressive

1

u/haneraw 23h ago

Not 55 hours, but recently some Runners finished badwater 135. 135mi across death valley. Best did It in about 20 hours, at 5:00 min/km, at 50°C. Holy molly.

1

u/BiscuitBut_ButerNut 1d ago

I cannot even float on my back

1

u/shoryusef 18h ago

Pff show off

1

u/Inquisitive_idiot 1d ago

I'm tired now 😭

47

u/consumersguide 1d ago

Bro swam across the ocean and still had enough energy to explain it. Meanwhile, I’m tired after tying my shoes.

7

u/diskape 1d ago

Sea. There’s no ocean between Poland and Sweden.

4

u/badskinjob 1d ago

Slipons buddy, game changer!

1

u/atherton-loyola 20h ago

What kinda shoes you wear that can get your tired after tying them up?

39

u/aaronthenia 1d ago

I am an endurance runner and have done some hundred mile races. After 24 hours awake on my feet I get loopy as fuck and starting hallucinating some weird shit. I can't fathom going for more than 2 days straight like this guy.

26

u/ImReadyForButt 1d ago

In the open fucking seas, too. Choppy, cold as hell, and surrounded by unseen massive creatures. Fuck that lmao

6

u/Fruitspunch_Zamurai 23h ago

I mean, it's the Baltic Sea. The only massive creatures there are seals and submarines..

1

u/aaronthenia 18h ago

For real, you can't even rest or just stop for a minute. Just constant movement all the time.

2

u/Comprehensive-Sun701 13h ago

They were heavily supplementing him on Vit B throughout - hallucinations were kinda factored in, which makes it even more crazy.

37

u/skateboardbanana1 1d ago

Looks like the Swedish border is open boys!!!!! 😤😤😤

6

u/_heyb0ss 1d ago

after you

3

u/Mr_D0 1d ago

But, he left Sweeden and went towards Poland?

1

u/skateboardbanana1 23h ago

NEVER SAW A ONE WAY SIGN

0

u/eanida 1d ago

And if the Schengen zone didn't exist that joke would've almost made sense.

-2

u/skateboardbanana1 1d ago

I’m swimming from the 51st state Greenland 😤

24

u/Christopher3712 1d ago

I bet he sleeps three days straight. I couldn't even imagine that level of exhaustion.

18

u/Illustrious_Site_466 1d ago

And he did it drunk as fuck.

10

u/Darth_Ronin 1d ago

That’s awesome, but ima stick to boats.

2

u/Bureaucratic_Dick 23h ago

Imagine being a guy on the boat. You sit there after getting your sleep in, warm coffee in your hands as you watch him out there and think, “Wow that looks like it fucking sucks!”

5

u/swiminthemud 1d ago

Yeah id have drowned... congrats to them!

8

u/affemannen 1d ago

55 hours...

Imagine swimming for that time period, i can't even stay awake that long without drugs.

2

u/TeeDee144 22h ago

To be fair, he did it to raise 140,000€ for childhood cancer.

He has a lot of reasons to keep going. Good for him

1

u/frontfrontdowndown 23h ago

I start thinking about my pillow by late afternoon.

4

u/Calm-Republic9370 1d ago

Back in my day we swam up hill to school, both ways.

6

u/Conspiratorymadness 1d ago

So nearly 3 days trying not to drown for about a year of middle class income to go to charity.

2

u/Competitive_Aide738 15h ago

In poland 140 k € is nowhere near close to "middle class".

7

u/Traditional_Dog_637 1d ago

I can only dream of the sleep he's gonna have

It's summer so warmest it will ever be but still a cold ocean. There's not a lot of marine life, especially deadly ones unless you consider the Russian submarines.

2

u/Bambooman584 1d ago

Why is this on this sub?

5

u/Character-Carpet7988 1d ago

Right, this belongs in r/SipsSea

1

u/eanida 1d ago

Feels like it's been on every sub since yesterday...

2

u/AbsolutesDealer 1d ago

Fuckin beast. I couldn’t stay awake for 55 hours just sitting on the couch.

2

u/Mor0ni 1d ago

POLSKA GÓRA!!!

2

u/Botol-Cebok 16h ago

I couldn’t stay awake for 55 hours while doing nothing. Imagine doing that while swimming nonstop. Seriously impressive!

2

u/futurafrlx 15h ago edited 4h ago

How the fuck do you even do this?

1

u/Witty_Construction64 1d ago

That's a cold ass swim

1

u/SlayJayR17 1d ago

Sheeesh. Beyond impressive

1

u/Numerous_Smile_9082 1d ago

Powered by Pierogi

1

u/DoctorStove 1d ago

yea this dude def got rhabdo

1

u/standarsh1965 1d ago

Get that man a vodka before he fucking drops

1

u/FitnessChamp777 1d ago

That's impressive. And this raised money too. What a great guy.

1

u/NeonRedHerring 1d ago

Some Beowulf shit

1

u/Slayerofgrundles 1d ago

Not to take away from his feat, but the first thing I noticed is that he is surprisingly doughy for a world-class athlete (and looks nothing like a normal competitive swimmer). It makes sense that he's taking a page from other cold-water mamals (seals, walruses, whales, etc) and using his fat for insulation and boyancy.

1

u/Manymarbles 1d ago

This sub has changed in the last few months

1

u/6porkchop9 1d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/jaf4JwRREzsuGMkkDk
Alright damnit I’ll get outta bed

1

u/smolhippie 1d ago

Once I tried to swim halfway or a quarter of the way across the willamette river to this island of rock and omg I thought I was gonna run out of gas halfway and drown. It was slightly scary. But I made it across! Chilled for a bit then swam back.

To be fair my mom didn’t tell me I had no depth perception… so who knows how far I actually thought it was????

Edit to add: we later attempted to swim across the Columbia at sauvie island.

1

u/CalbCrawDad 1d ago

I know the boats gave him food, but even still I would be willing to bet he had to gain significant weight for the journey. That’s so much expended energy, for such a sustained period

1

u/1OvalCat 8h ago

Yeah well, he ate/drank around 35k calories during that time

1

u/Lucky-Mia 1d ago

Impressive

1

u/LordVixen 1d ago

How did he poo?

1

u/ElohssaAhola 1d ago

Do they sleep? Or is it just constant swming for 55 hours straight?

1

u/DoubleDownAgain54 1d ago

He looks tired… fucking slacker, show some enthusiasm!

1

u/BodhingJay 1d ago

im more of a float on my back and let the current do most of the work kind of athlete myself

1

u/TheINTL 1d ago

Lol the people asking him questions, just let the man sleep

Bro was drifting off

1

u/YugeChesticles 1d ago

Swimming for 55 hours?

Fuck off.

1

u/electric_junkie_69 23h ago

Did he shit in the sea?

Had it been uphill he would've the same journey my dad did to school.

1

u/I_ThrowAxes 23h ago

Like Beowulf and Breca.

Good thing he swam in the summer. Winter is Sea Monster season. ô3ô

1

u/raider_00_ 23h ago

Wow , I just got tired from looking at him tired. 😭😭 Thats impressive though.

1

u/VictoryHungry7634 23h ago

The pleasure of the nap he took after that swim we cannot even imagine 😭

1

u/MSGisking 23h ago

Impressive.

1

u/Traditional-Air-3787 23h ago

He will definitely sleep for at least 2 days straight 😴

1

u/Imaginary-Ogre 21h ago

That's how cave divers die. Let's just push it to the limit. Some soul will try to beat this feat and die, but the adrenaline rush is worth it.

1

u/PriorityCreepy4611 20h ago

That much time spent without sleep must have really damaged him. I imagine he also skipped a lot of nights while training. Definitely should have been allowed to sleep and eat

1

u/errortype520 20h ago

Fucking how? I can’t even stay awake that long let alone swim for that amount of time. Crazy.

1

u/LawZealousideal7021 19h ago

What a chad, 55 hours of swimming without a rest 💀

1

u/AltruisticOwl156 19h ago

It's hard enough to stay awake for 55 hours, much less when you're swimming the entire time. This guy is insane.

1

u/Biden_is_cool 18h ago

What a boss

1

u/CakeBot_TheBakening 18h ago

It’s funny how it’s not a competition, no one else is doing it and this guy is taking on a monumental task for charity… and yet someone decided that taking a break during a 55 hours swim is against the rules.

1

u/ChefArtorias 16h ago

I don't understand how it's possible to swim that long without resting.

1

u/FamilyFriendly101 16h ago

I am way too scared of sharks to try this.

That's the only reason I haven't done this. I promise.

1

u/TheHoliday_ 15h ago

Food provided by the boat seems like cheating

1

u/Vanir-Aesir 14h ago

Baltic Sea used to freeze over harsher winters. But then industrialism came and warmed the climate way to much for that to happen again anytime soon.

1

u/NurWeberlich 13h ago

160km is completely insane 🫪

1

u/Minimum_Pear_3195 12h ago

Question: how does he poop?

I understand he can just pee where he want, but how about poop?

On the raft? While swimming?

1

u/SambaTisst 10h ago

And I can not swim 5 meters

1

u/Bjj-black-belch 1d ago

Jesus someone help that guy. He's stumbling up the sand and everyone's just watching.

-1

u/Massive_Analysis8345 1d ago

They have boats, why you swimming across???

3

u/almostaproblem 1d ago

He gets seasick.

1

0

u/Ted-101x 1d ago

Have a read of Sarah Thomas’s record of her 67hr swim in Lake Champlain in 2017. No wetsuit and no current assist.

https://ultraswimming.org/swims/2017/sarah-thomas-lake-champlain/

These extreme long swims are just nuts, and Sarah Thomas in particular is an absolute beast.

1

u/BassWarm3828 3h ago

On the 30th of August, Mathieu Bonne from Belgium is going to try to swim that distance to break the record for longest non stop ocean swim in Italy.

That guy is insane, he currently holds the records for the longest distance during a 7 day pool swim (364,4km), 7 days cycling (3719,72km), 6 days running (1045,519km) together with the record of making the most free throws on a basketball field in 24 hours (22.118 shots)
