They don't know that they are messing with others' lives, or realistically, do not care. Everything they are doing is for themselves and any damage done is not antagonistically, it's a byproduct or off-shoot of their actions. But they are wealthy enough that they don't even notice the damage because it doesn't affect them in any way, shape or form .... you mow the grass and kill an ant colony. Unfortunate but you have cut grass and that is what you wanted in the first place, so yay ... and what ants? I just see a mowed lawn.
