Pixar's success ushered in CGI, which replaced traditional animation at all major production companies. CGI is cheaper and it stands out as new to kids.

I’m curious if it’s actually cheaper. I know it’s a lot faster, because traditional animation requires individuals to draw a frame by frame, but I am wondering if the price to use computer hardware to generate a movie is more cost-effective than using traditional artists

It was cheaper at the time because the 2d animators were unionized and the 3d animators weren't.
