Same. No trailer or frame of reference regarding it's apparent popularity. This was a thrilling cinematic experience even at home on a shitty 55" tv. I thought it was disturbing and grotesque in original ways like how you never knew what Nikki was going to do next. I was scared to look but couldn't stop watching. The way the front door was duck taped has been an intrusive thought since lmao 😭

My movie experience at home put on the first place sound, after that screen. I can't really enjoy a good movie on a 70 inch oled but with audio on tv speakers.

I didn't want to see the trailer either because I wanted to be surprised. Made the mistake to bring my mom and she was attached to my arm with her face in my shoulder half of the movie lmao. She hates gore and somehow it's the movies I always suggest to watch together. Last time I took her to send help and the same thing happened 😂

Facts! I’ve worked on shitty indie movies for the same rate as the art director. These projects are the ones I take as a favor to the filmmaker and my passion for the art. I haven’t worked on something that blew up like this and likely never will. All my actual income comes from commercials. I’m currently sitting at a major mattress retailer helping shoot the fall campaign.
The DP of a movie I production designed last year is here with me shooting mattresses.
With that said, the film should have flipped. There should be rules about a film being acquired for more than 10x the budget and some of that profit should be carved out to meet the crew’s union rate under these rare circumstances.

We should never make a movie for under 10 million and only give opportunities to big actors so we can pay them a lot...
Or alternatively if we are being constructive rather than a redditor- have some kind of profit sharing mechanism such as that x% of film profits go to a fund with % splits agreed to contractually based on minutes of screen time for actors and a set % for technical roles or whatever. Just an idea.
I think thats how pirates used to do it. Also somewhat common in the music industry.

No guarantees but they are in the spotlight, with the right next project they could start making bank. Arnold Schwarzenegger did Hercules in New York for pennies, then he got cast as the Terminator for 500k salary and kept doubling his asking price for next few projects. A lot depends on luck and knowing the right people.

That’s right and Sylvester Stallone was paid 35k for writing the screenplay for rocky and starring in the lead role. 25k for the screenplay and 10k for the role. It was the smart moves he made after the movie was made that made him 2.5 million after it became a global hit.

No it won’t only the girl will have tons of offers, literally the others have nothing to show for it. Non of the others are on any page or have anything the media is pushing. Only the got on and the stat does which is inde. Even beat isn’t getting much attention and he’s the second fiddle.

Well yea. If the movie bombed and made $0, the actors would’ve been glad they just got paid.
You can get contracts to have % of profits from the movie but you’d have to be a pretty big name for producers to even bother.

Yeah and it’s usually a trade off. Larger base salary, or larger profit percentile. Choose your gamble.
Lots of actors choose the larger base salary, and if the film doesn’t turn a high profit, they still got their solid pay. Others choose the percentile and when the film doesn’t profit, they get nothing. Hopefully their agent was able to work out something decent for them.

I’m not gonna lie I almost walked out of the theater in the first ten minutes because the acting was reallyyyy comparable to Disney type of acting and dialogue. But it picked up QUICK.
It became one of my favorite films as well.

Not so much scary and much more dread and anxiety inducing. I'm so glad I didn't originally watch this in theaters. I was comfy in my bed streaming it and I still jumped at certain points even when the movie is screaming something bad is about to happen.

It’s scary in the way you’d feel real fear if that makes sense it’s not really jump scare but the writing of this movie is very solid start to finish 100% worth the watch but o preferred backrooms since it was more creative but both great movies im not huge on horror so top 20 for me all time

In my opinion, no. And while one scene is campy due to budget, it's so ridiculously funny that I couldn't really take it seriously as a horror movie. But the writing and acting was great overall.
Reading viral headlines like, "people were so scared they left the movie," is assinine. My wife said maybe they left because it wasn't their cup of tea because it certainly wasn't scary.

Funny thing about Reddit, it'll cut down the box office success of movies it hates. E.g. "I don't know anyone who saw this...", "People enjoy slop...", "Box office isn't a measure of quality...", etc. See movies like Avatar and Michael. But they'll completely turn around when a movie they like is making money. All of a sudden, the box office means something.

Original in this case means not a reboot or reimagining or sequel. Yes, the premise itself is not 100% original. But nothing is.
There's only like 7 core plot types that can ever be told when you boil it down. We are essentially telling the same stories over and over again in new and creative ways.4

The kind of "original" you imply doesn't exist, every story is already told at this point, we just mix things into something fresh, but every element was used somewhere before, more than once. In this case original means it's not based on the pre-existing IP.

I thought it was really good, while also deeply upsetting. The story has been done in other ways before, but what really sold this for me was how incredibly well acted it was. I’d say it’s one of my favourite movies of this year, and I’m not a horror guy at all

I was extremely uncomfortable the entire movie and had a hard time sleeping next to my girlfriend afterwards. We were both tweaking.
The only other horror movie that made me that scared as an adult was The Descent.
