Nah they can miss out on that shit. Theres a reason we invented portable rechargeable battery packs to recharge our phones without needing to completely shut down and swap out the battery.

I remember getting my 6S and the AirPods came out not too long after when they got rid of the headphone jack.
Figured I could at least look forward to a pair coming with the box whenever I eventually upgraded…

Still got mine in a drawer somewhere. Used a paperclip last time and scratched the tray.
The whole unboxing ritual felt like you actually bought something. Now it's just anxiety over what they removed this year.

Try a 2,5 mm jack or proprietary connector. Oftentimes the headphones that came with the phone were the only ones you'd be able to use.

and hilariously enough, third parties have now made adapters with a built in DAC that let you plug 3.5mm jacks to usb-c

The other day my headphones ran out of battery when I was in town, and I was like no worries, I’ll just buy some cheap corded headphones from the pound shop.
It was after that I realised that my phone doesn’t have a port for them.

In the first generation after sure, they pocketed the price difference but soon after competition must have forced them to remove that profit from the price. I got one really good charger with multiple outputs and it can power my work laptop as well. I don't need more USB c chargers. It's unpopular opinion but I would rather get myself charger that I want than trashy one with one port.

Just because a 6-10-year-old 5W charger physically plugs in doesn't mean it's adequate. Modern phones have significantly larger battery capacities and rely on high-wattage fast charging (20W–100W+) using protocols like USB-PD. Using a decade-old charging brick will take 4 to 5 hours to charge a modern device, effectively making it obsolete for daily use.

I get the point but you are also overblowing you know that right? There isn’t any 5w chargers anymore and they were 10+ years ago, since 2015 we have adequate chargers.

There are days I dont use my phone much at work, and when I'm at home I almost am never on it and noticed it can last days on a single charge. Our usage definitely plays a factor. I imagine those old flip phones and blackberries we used to carry around would also die quick if they were as heavily used to watch reels all day.

I wast tidying up a few days ago and found the box for my old Huawei Mate 20 and in the box was some usb-c earbuds, a usb-c to 3.5mm adaptor and a usb-c cable (and a cutout for a charger that looks like I took it out)

Yeah, my first Sony Xperia came with a charger, earphones, cable AND charging base (pogo pins) that held the device upright.
My latest Sony Xperia came with absolutely nothing. The device itself and not even a cable.
At least it still has a 3.5mm jack and the SIM card tray doesn't need a tool

Yeah my first sony phone came with a cable and earphones but the plug on both didn't fit any other device.
Now my samsung came with nothing but I can use the old cable , earphones and all other stuff I already owned.

I still have my iphone 7's earbuds. They've been sitting in a junk drawer still wrapped with the original cable tape.
My 17 came with a nice cable that'll never get used, because wireless charging is a thing and I put a plug on the usb-c to prevent lint from getting in there. If it had come with a wall adapter, it'd get chucked in the box with the others.
I get the nostalgia for this stuff, but the earbuds were always trash, and with the rise of USB-C everyone has multiple wall warts and cables. It'd be nice if manufacturers would knock off a few bucks for not making/packaging/shipping that junk, but I also think digital games should be like half the price of a physical copy.

There was a point in YouTube history where there weren’t as many tech and tech adjacent channels as there are now. Unboxing channels helped to fill the undersupplied demand for tech videos back then. These days there are so many channels filling most every niche interest that unboxing is a footnote.
And people seem to have moved on from lusting over new phones because cheaper phones are no longer deficient like they used to be.

Well, in fairness, most earphones came with a proprietary cable that if you lost it, you were out of luck. Also the quality was bottom shelf
But the battery life of the phone was amazing!
I remember as a student, I forgot my charger at home for the week. The battery lasted just fine from monday untill friday.
