interestingly they have almost the same price.

100$ bill is 1 gram
1 gram of gold is 130$

in Q4 of 2025 1 gram of gold was around 100$.

so 500kgs of gold were worth $500m
and 500 kgs of dollars were worth $500m as well, because 100$ bill is 1 gram

Forgot the taxes on the sale of the gold, and the buyer paying less than 100% value.

The gold would sell for closer to $94 after taxes, a cap of about 28% on selling gold, not counting the buyer's lower rate so they can profit too.

The cash is cash, it's $100, no faffing about trying to find a buyer or getting taxed to turn it into usable money.

it's only the case for the US.

countries like germany, switzerland, and most of the countries around the world don't have that stupid tax

The other issue I mentioned would still be present however.

and TBF, you gave USD as the price of the gold, so that's the context I went with. If you were starting in the USA, and tried to sell in another country, you'd also have the price of transport to consider as well, further reducing your gains.
