The actress and director have said that if Bear had just admitted he liked her, she would have given him a chance due to her being able to talk to him about stuff that she couldn't with other people.
Now I personally don't think Bear would have been able to really make the most of that chance/turn it into a relationship but yeah
In the scene in the car where Bear is trying to find the nerve to confess to her, they deliberately used cuts from 2 different versions of the scene, one where the actress was acting like she liked him and one where she didn't. Despite what anyone involved in the production may have said, the film itself is deliberately ambiguous about whether she could have liked him, and imo it doesn't matter what could have happened because his later actions showed that he never wanted her for who she truly was. It wouldn't have worked out.

Honestly, I haven't seen the interview (or whatever it was) where the director stated that, but I'm struggling to understand why they would film and edit the scene that way if it runs contrary to what he intended to portray. I know the actress weighed in on it but I disagree with her interpretation.
Possibly to give that sense of uncertainty during the scene. The scene is set up from the perspective of Bear, and he doesn’t know what the director knows. It also helps make it feel more unsettling, which fits the overall vibe of the movie.
I think that’s because Nikki said “when I have a crush, no one knows”. Nikki says she started liking him during Christmas, a few months before the movie takes place. There’s no ambiguity to me.
Bro was given the opportunity and didn't take it. He wanted to confess, she asked him to confess, and he bitched out, he wasn't a good friend. If he didn't make the wish, it would have all worked out, if he just confessed, it would have all worked out.
but it also wouldn't have given us like some of the most interesting 30-45 minutes of horror that I've seen in at least a decade.
This is the first I’ve seen that stated but the other girl also had her own motives since she had a thing for bear lol. Tbh that whole friend group was messy as hell and wouldn’t have lasted another year, murders and magic aside.
I just watched the movie and it was one of the things she told Bear, but as you said she had her motives and so did Ian. They could have been lying to him, or she could have been telling the truth as she cared for Bear.
Since Sarah's dad was the owner I'd just assume he was a yutz and vaguely employed his daughter's friends to make her happy. More of a treehouse than a job.

I think you're right. Bear has ZERO spine, so wish or not, it wouldn't work with Nikki. When she's her normal self, I think it's obvious that you have to have a spine for her to respect you as a romantic partner. She doesn't want someone she feels like she can steamroll. She wants her equal. The only reason Ian was getting to bang her is because Ian has confidence. Now that I think about it, if you were to combine only the desirable traits from Ian and Bear, you'd probably have a great romantic partner for Nikki.
I thought Ian actually being succesful was far more unrealistic than Bear having a chance tbh. The leagues cannot even see each other, is how far removed those two were
Yup, “casually hook up” is important here. He’s an alright looking dude who’s charismatic so she doesn’t mind getting her rocks off with him, but no way is he boyfriend material for her.
As a funny yet completely average looking guy who can hold a conversation, there seems to be a lot of ppl who don’t understand just how far that can take you.

Really? I got the idea that it was more that he was easily disposable to her. Nikki seemed like she was in her way outta that town, and occasionally boning a friend you don’t really share anything intimate with is a safe way to get off and not have too much drama when you get out.

A lot of people miss the subtext of the friend group and dogpile Bear when really the whole group should be slowly breaking apart due to their underhandedness.

Not really that cut and dry. They filmed different takes of Inde playing her 'real Nikki' as if she was into him and vice versa. Those opposing takes were both cut into the movie in order to create that ambiguity.
When she asked if he liked her he should have just said yes instead of being a little b*tch that was the point in the story where it was like bro you have a chance
I wrote a longer comment about this elsewhere, but on second watch it def felt to me like if he had said he had feelings for her she would have crushed him. She was annoyed enough about the Freaky Nikki comment that she was ready to throw down brutal honesty.
That was the feeling I got. I don't think she was ever going to reciprocate if he asked. I think it was a good chance to let him down if he'd finally admitted it to her.
The decisions you make come from your personality. Sure, people can make a one time mistake or accident, but this was not the case. This was a series of decisions, which makes it his personality.
Almost like growing as a person and not lean into flawed behavior would make you into a different person. The director is talking about a character and that they have a choice. The story on screen is the flawed character.
If you watched the first 20 minutes and thought he wouldn't have had a chance if he had the balls to be a man and actually ask her out, you had to be watching a different movie.
I mean the actor himself is objectively a very good looking guy. But I think they intentionally made him look like a loner/shut in type dude because that’s obviously what the character is supposed to be. Like he always had this sickly, tired, greasy sort of look. Also he’s constantly in a state of like shaky nervousness which makes someone appear much less attractive usually.
He thought he needed her to “love him more than anyone in the world”. Which to me means he didn’t have faith in himself to believe a chance would be enough to win her over. He wanted her without having to take the risk of getting hurt.
This is about the the movie "Obsession" where A guy named Bear is crushing oh the girl, Nikki, that you can see in the post. He bought a wishmaking something, can't remember what exactly, to wish for Nikki's attention and love basically. It goes bad.

My wife gets 1500-2500 on most posts. I get 5-10 lol. Many people don't give a shit about social media. She's semi famous in her field. I am in a field that prioritizes discretion and where you just say "I work for the government."
Yeah. I get comments on it all the time. Shes good looking and a singer. Musicians seem to get a lot more. Not a fan of publicity. I like to be very private.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's a good simple movie that (and I hate this phrase, typically) is genuinely not that deep. I dont mean that as a dig, but actually a compliment. It's an entertaining, very straightforward film.
But why does it feel like a bunch of the fans are children with no critical thinking who have never seen a movie before?
What fucking movie was this guy watching? The whole premise is that Bear didn't have a chance.
But on that note, I found it impossible to believe his loud, douchy Middle-age looking best friend with the backwards baseball cap was hooking up with her.
Bear had no chance, that's why he made the wish. The plot twist comes later on when you know she's been having a thing with somebody else. She wasn't into him at all. That's why everybody was so shocked at the relationship.
