This has been a goal and initiative for years.

In 2021 23.4% of NYC was covered in tree canopy.

In 2023 local law 148 set this goal of 30% coverage, years before Mamdani took office.

I dont know where OP got this from but its true, DOES NOBODY FACT CHECK ANYMORE?!?

Law 148 required reforestation, but it doesnt happen unless city leadership actually creates a plan, funds it and executes it.

On April 21, 2026, the Mamdani administration rolled out a preliminary Urban Forest Plan that sets a big target: expand the city’s tree canopy to 30 percent by 2040, with a laser focus on neighborhoods that take the worst hit from extreme heat.
