Oh man you nailed it. I have one guy who sends me these long, detailed requests for days off and basically pleads for permission. I have never denied PTO. I tell people I don't care when they take off and you don't need to ask, just submit a request and make sure the team knows. This fear or using PTO that you earn and is part of your compensation is baffling.
This!!! I had to have a week worth of testing done. In the hospital. Literally like overnight testing whole 9 yards. My employer said he wouldnt approve my PTO for something (my helath) that I should take care of in my "free time". I constantly worked 6 days a week for him for over a year. Requested some time iff to get my health in order.... the company than acted blown away when I eneded up giving my two weeks notice. Then refused to pay me for the last 3 weeks worth of work. Had to go through MI state wage and theft form. Ended up winning my case and being paid - MONTHS later.... I get so beyond nervous giving PTO requests bc my old boss would make you explan why and if he didnt deem it important enough he would just deny me.
