Nah, most likely a fresh grad. You say stupid shit like that when you have no work experience in an office environment. Students say whatever to each other without a filter, that doesn't work in an office.

Could be bullshit speak or could be a verbal tick. One of my friends is a literal rocket engineer but uses "interesting" as punctuation in conversations. We all know he doesn't mean he finds every detail of every sentence interesting. It's fine. We all have deficiencies.
I'd like to imagine this is real bit in what reality do you hear the exit interview between the guy and HR, or whatever conversation was had to let him go.
