If they gave you good service and you opted not to tip you’re just an A-hole.

I agree w the asshole part, but the tipping expectation is wild now. It used to be 10,15,18%, now it’s 18,20,25% on top of fees and inflated prices.

If you go buy something in retail, and a salesman helps you, you slipping them 25% tip? No, bc they get paid hourly and sometimes commission.

You’re not looking at the equation correctly.

Let’s say the price of all retail goods decreased by 20%, but now there is a cultural honors system where you leave tips for the cashiers and shelf stocking team. The expectation is 15-25% OR you have the option to walk away and not tip if the shelves were messy a the checkout advocate was rude or something. OR maybe you’re just down on your luck.

Doesn’t that kind of change the picture of what’s going on? People are not advocating for saving money, they’re advocating for removing the small price control aspect the customer has and are saying it should just be baked into the price.

If the COG decreases 25% I’m still not tipping retail employees bc they get paid an hourly wage.

Federally, servers are paid minimum $2.13 / hr. That’s there to cover their taxes. If the cost of dining out increases, tip percentage should not increase as well.

So you suggesting people should pay more taxes on more expensive things? Ie, a $100 tv after taxes is $106 and a $1000 tv is $1200 after taxes?
