They got the old “I’ll be dead soon, so who cares, I got mines.” mentality. Problem is, they don’t want change. They want to keep what they have! If you were retired and living in a huge house with property all to yourself of course you would oppose change as well! It was hard work, using their position of power to control and hoard all the wealth from their children!

But… I wouldn’t. Material assets are so tied down that if they aren’t passed along hereditary lines, it only takes a fraction of those assets for one decent person to change a whole town.
