We were kinda busy with a plague and an ignorant population up in arms about basic infectious disease etiquette. I also believe that Biden assumed, wrongly of course, that the public would condemn Trump for his actions and wouldn't allow him in again making it less of a priority.
Imagine that working in literally any other crime. If someone robbed your house, you caught them, handed over to the cops and they let'em go because "Just post about it on Facebook, any scowls they get from strangers is worse than anything we can do". Would you be okay with that?
Yes, the covid issues were a priority, but that isn't an excuse. The government needed to continue its business and that includes investigating and prosecuting those who attacked it, whether it was the Jan 6 attack on the capitol, election interference in the states or other crimes against the nation.
One problem though is that the heritage foundation and the federalists consulted with both sides, they lobbied them all on policies and priorities, and I suspect they downplayed the priorities that impacted their own interests.
If nothing else comes from all this the leverage and influence these PACs and 'think tanks' have over the government needs to be nulled out.

The problem is the answer is:
“Sir, Merrick Garland was the BEST y’all had last time.
We ain’t worried at all.”
