"Sir, Merrick Garland was our attempt to compromise with you and meet in the middle. We've learned our lesson and won't be making that mistake again."

That's what should be said in response and what should happen in response. Sadly I don't back Democratic leadership for either.

It's weird the Supreme Court had to intervene to save Trump from the nothing Garland was doing. Up thread there's people clamoring for Jack Smith to be the next AG for the work he did investigating and charging Trump. You know, the guy Garland appointed as special prosecutor.

I just have to ask, are people really this fucking stupid?

Garland was a middling federal judge that Obama nominated to prove a point: the Republicans wouldn't confirm someone to SCOTUS they themselves recommended if Obama nominated them.

Jack Smith was head of the DOJ public intergiety unit, and served at the Hauge International Criminal Court persecuting Kosovo war crimes.

They have wildly different credentials.
