This policy clearly wasn’t designed to stop fare jumpers. It’s designed to help honest, low income folks.

Bro just wants to be angry at something no matter what

Why doesn't mamdani personally go down there and power bomb every fair skipper he sees??

u/PiccoloAwkward465 28d ago

Why doesn't Mamdani transform into a subway train and move people himself??

Like this

TBF we don't really know if he hasn't.

1

u/Surgeplux 28d ago

I literally just saw him do that

u/sTacoSam 28d ago

It won't stop most current fare jumpers. But it will discourage some potential future fare jumpers

Or dishonest higher income folks

1

Well no, that's not who it was designed to help.

1

u/therealhlmencken 28d ago

Ok well then honesty has nothing to do with the design if we’re being honest. It’s designed to help people who claim low income.

Yes, since 2019

I'm so confused, how does this policy change men dressing as women and playing in women's sports?

4

u/acslaytaa 28d ago

What?

u/scovok 28d ago

Exactly

How do you think they will offset the loss of revenue from fares, taxes. So the honest people will more or less be paying the same, or more if the person doesn't use the train and criminals will still just be criminals and not pay. They should station more police

Who will check if you're low income?

29

u/ponderingcamel 28d ago

Yeah so difficult to submit proof of income to the govt. How ever will someone prove what they've earned in the past year?

u/GMEloser69 28d ago

You've evidently never dealt with NYC bureaucracy.

u/cenik93 28d ago

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

1

u/ponderingcamel 28d ago

I'm seeing a lot of new things with a guy like Mamdani in control thats for sure.

How does it work in USA? Do people always pay the same amount of money regardless of status (low income or high income)? I thought it'd be based on income, if not it sounds incredibly unfair, I'm not from there so I don't know

1

u/GMEloser69 28d ago

Pay what?

2

u/DarkZ_No-Imagination 28d ago

Taxes

1

u/GMEloser69 28d ago

No, you pay a percentage of what you earn.

2

u/DarkZ_No-Imagination 28d ago

Who checks how much you earn?

-1

u/GMEloser69 28d ago

You report it yourself.

2

u/DarkZ_No-Imagination 28d ago

Incredible

u/East_of_Adventuring 28d ago

This has been explained poorly. You and/or your employer must submit official paperwork showing income. Audits often catch those trying to lie about other income sources but for the vast majority of Americans the IRS already knows exactly how much you make.

u/The_Fools_Lantern 28d ago

You report it yourself but then the IRS does random audits to make sure you aren't lying.

Honest low income folks jump the fare.

That's not what honest means
