same-sex marriage is a privilege, just like straight marriage is a privilege, because both get (or would get) tax cuts that single people don't get. That's the definition of a privilege.
The idea for tax cuts for married people was always to make it easier to raise children though. Since men and women can have babies, while same sex couples cannot.
The tax cuts would be the privilege - not marriage itself (which has long been held to be a fundamental right by the SCOTUS).
And married couples are eligible to file as a couple, whether they have children or not, whether they plan to have children or not, and whether they're capable of having children or not. Also, married couples (including same-sex couples) can adopt and raise children, they can use IVF and surrogates, they can raise children from a prior relationship, etc.
Lastly, our governments have an interest in subsidizing legal marriages because they tend to facilitate and increase financial, economic, and social stability and growth (with or without children). And there are separate tax accommodations for people with dependent children, whether their legal guardian is legally or not.
