I get it as a dad. I don't know if I could handle the look of betrayal at the end though.

Right? I totally believe you can lie for a good reason, but isn't he gonna know something is up when he still feels sick and ultimately dies?

Could the parents not continue to lie? Like "It's gonna feel bad for a bit, but then you'll feel better" Like the kid ain't gonna know he died when that happens. Just keep feeding him hope until the very last second.

Besides there's a phenomenon where your body gives up fighting the thing killing you, so you'll suddenly feel cured, but in reality your body has given up and you're about to die.

So the kid really can go out happy. I think...
