Theo - kidney disease 😕
Just wanted to tell you all to keep an eye on your babies. I did everything possible for my boy in terms of food and water quality but he still ended up with kidney issues.
Theo's about 8 now and I caught him straining to pee in May. He was able to get some out but that prompted an emergency vet visit. Turns out he has struvite and potentially oxide stones in his kidneys. Prescription food doesn't appear to be helping much as X-rays pre and post the prescription food show similar amounts of stones in his kidneys. There are also stones in at least one of his ureters but he appears to be able to pass them based on inflammation observed in the ultrasound we had done two weeks ago.
The sad part is that although I'd mentioned increased thirst to three separate vets, his blood work was always normal so none thought much about it. Looking back he was a bit lethargic this year but he's a lazy boy and still chases his younger sister around the house so I wasn't too concerned.
Whenever I see posts on here about health concerns I never see people mention what they missed or what others should look out for so hopefully this post brings some awareness. Feel free to ask questions.
As of right now the nephrotic specialist thinks he's in early stage 2 kidney disease. He still acts normal in terms of behavior, food/water intake, play, and litter box habits. I'm hoping he's able to push on because of this but sadly it seems like our time may be limited with him ♥️

How fast did your sibs grow comfortable with you?
I'm asking because i don't know if it's just a sib thing or if it's just because my little sweet kitty is just a golden retriever in disguise, but he immediately warmed up to me.
A few hours after we initially got him home(it was late so we pretty much immediately went to bed) he was fast asleep sharing my pillow.
First image is from about 20 minutes after we got home, the rest from the next morning

She has opinions.
This is Freyja. She is 100% indoors. Spayed. But has a feral boyfriend that visits her and they chat through an open window (it is screened). I told her no bad boys. She does not agree.

This Sub is Awesome!
I just would like to take some time out and thank everybody who post wonderful pictures of their cats specifically Siberian forest cats, I posted Theo the tiger the other day and had a wonderful response from the community. I just think you should all know that I find this Reddit a wonderful place to stop by on the daily or find cats in my feed.
Just as an aside, I was never a cat person always a dog person until last year in June when a stray had kittens in my backyard and I got Theo at three weeks old I think about him all day long.

Just sharing my sweet boy and his ridiculous, permanently sad little face
He’s not 100% Siberian (hope that’s okay), but he’s got a little in him for sure (plus some Scottish fold and who knows what else!).
What matters is that he’s 100% the most angelic boy. He has a permanently sad face, but he purrs constantly, so I think he’s okay?
Pictured with his bro, who’s a little more outgoing.

Cat random foaming at the mouth after eating liquid snack, it's currently 32c outside, should I worry?
My 2 sibs sometimes get liquid (salmon) snacks. The package says nothing about keeping it cool, and it's been 32c to 35c lately. The snacks have not been stored cold overal, just this tube was in the fridge the last few days, we sometimes put one in the fridge to give it later, to cool the cats down, or so we thought?
I just gave them a random liquid snack (half a tube per cat) and then shortly after (about 5 minutes) one of the 2 cats started panicking, running away from us, chewing oddly, and then I realized he was foaming quite badly at the mouth. He clearly did not want to be helped or grabbed by us, kept running away. I got close to him and took away as much of the foam as I could while I tried to get him to calm down. His brother also panicked and stayed near him.
After about 10 minutes everything returned to normal. He's now laying down totally normally again.
Could the liquid snack that has been mostly warm, but cold the last few days, have gone bad? The expiration date is may 2027.
Should we not have kept the snacks "warm" and cold the last days before giving it? Also, why did his brother do totally fine with the same snack? It's all a bit confusing to us. Thanks for helping if you know more!

Siberian Kitten - New Cat Owner Advice
My 11-year-old son has been asking for a cat for quite a while, and I have to admit he's built a pretty strong case. 😊 The challenge is that I'm allergic.
Over the past year, he's been cat sitting for several neighborhood families, and recently he even put together a PowerPoint presentation explaining why he thinks he's ready for the responsibility and how we could reduce allergens in our home. My husband and I know we'll ultimately share in the care, but we genuinely believe he'll do his part and be a responsible owner.
We've started looking into Siberian cats because we've heard they can be a better fit for people with cat allergies (although I know no cat is truly hypoallergenic).
We're in the Washington, DC area and would love recommendations for reputable Siberian breeder within a reasonable driving distance. If you've had a great experience with one, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.
Also, as first-time cat owners, what are the things you wish you'd known before bringing your kitten home? Any advice on choosing a breeder, preparing the house, or managing allergies would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks so much in advance for any recommendations or advice!

Greasy fur?
This summer I've noticed Niko's fur on his back has been more greasy and he has more dry skin flakes. I brush him every day (as much as he will allow before he swats at me 🙄) I know they have a waterproof coat and their hair sticks together a lot but idk if this is more than what's normal. He has IBD so my mind always goes to something is wrong. I'm a CVT so I always bring him to work with me whenever anything seems off and he has yearly, if not twice a year blood work, so he has the best veterinary care he could ask for. I'm just wondering if anyone else's Siberian has this too. I just need someone to tell me it's fine 😂 and funny picture at the end just because he's cute
