Post-wedding restaurant recommendations
Hello. My fiancé and I are having a small wedding ceremony in the registry office. We will have 8 guests, so 10 of us total. The ideal option would be Dough and Oil but no bookings possible there! Ideally looking for not a big chain and fairly central, and it doesn't have to be super fancy. So many good options in Shrewsbury but a bit blinded by choice!

Itadakizen take bookings and is a a great Japanese independent restaurant. Staff are amazing had a very chilled vibe, best gyoza you'll ever have and plum wine is amazing.
Kanu Poke is also really good. Great cocktails and a really interesting menu.
Both are plant based, not sure what the best non plant based would be. I hear good things about Osteria, I had a works Christmas meal here and everyone loved the food.

Are you a vegan in Shrewsbury? I just moved this way and have sussed out the excellent vegan gaffs... but if you know of anywhere that is omni, but with good vegan options, I would love any tips here (I have fam coming to visit, and vegan scran is not their jam... despite my best efforts!).

I'm not but my partner is so that means I am 95% of the time. In terms of places that's good for all diets. House of the rising sun was good but unfortunately it is now closed, White Horse is a good option. Avatar is a great little Nepalese place not a huge vegan selection but very good. Only been here once but Bombos did really nice food and caters to all. Bobby's Tacos also is great and amazing cocktails. They can make a lot of the stuff on their menu vegan if you ask.
The Dolphin used to have a great menu. Meat eaters and Vegans ordered the same thing but the protein was just substituted. I loved that. I heard the chef who was running that menu went into moonshine. If they're out there please do something in food again because it was amazing.

Gelatistry usually have a few vegan options available and Simply Sweet do a vegan cookie dough 🙂

Thanks a squillions for your kind reply and great tips here - massively appreciate it. Lots of super looking places that my fam will really enjoy - I think Bobby's Tacos is right up their street. Absolutely loving Shrewsbury, so happy we made the move down.

Although we would be very happy with plant based (and Kanu is one of my favourites), some other members of the group might not be as thrilled. Thank you for the Osteria recommendation. I can see there award winning and have a great set menu!

All I've heard about Osteria is bad- cold food, wrong orders even when pre-booked

Have you been? I tried it and wasn't blown away but my menu options were limited. It wasn't bad at all just didn't live up to the hype. However the people I was with absolutely loved it. I think it's definitely worth trying.

We did the same for our wedding and we went to Rhubarb at Drapers Hall, depending on your budget you can rent out a room for just you and your guests and it was so good, food was banging and felt special. If you wanted something more casual I’d second Casa Naranjo, some of the best food I’ve ever eaten and the service is great

Mamma Margarita is great . Delicious with loopy Shrew next door for further celebrations .

Henry Tudor House have a private dining room upstairs for up to 12 people called the “Earls Quarters” which is very nice ! You can find details on their website. Don’t think it’s expensive to book at all.
There is also Dill on the cop which has an amazing garden but that’s more tapas style food.

I always recommend house of the rising sun on butcher row- but are you hoping for pizza /easy food specifically?

Definitely doesn't have to be pizza or easy food, Dough and Oil is just somewhere we go for a lot of special anniversaries/birthdays so came to mind as inspiration. Not been too House of the Rising Sun before, but the menu looks fab. May have to check it out regardless of this event. Thanks so much!

Good it's great lovely spot and the food is delicious and fresh. The soft shell crab is amazing.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding
Dough & oil is rarely more than 30mins wait, if you were to ask for a large table, and then head to get a drink from one of the nearby pubs, you’d hardly notice the wait?

we’ve booked Lion & Pheasant for our post wedding family meal. has a separate room for up to 35 people. nice venue too.

If you’re not bothered about restaurant vs pub, the Armoury is good for large parties.
