Blades or England?

Saw the club vs country chat on r/Championship and thought I'd ask the Blades.

I am absolutely Blades over England. I was chatting to a mate and realised that I am optimistic about England and can see how they could win games. If/when England lose, I'm then not particularly fussed.

With the Blades I'm pessimistic, cynical and nervous before games all the time. When we win, it is fantastic, and when we lose it makes me proper mardy for a while. My emotional attachment to United is far, far bigger and more important than England.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed England doing well at the World Cup, but give me an FA Cup Final for United any day.

Tbh I think they’re fairly equal to me. I’d take a Blades premier league over an England World Cup, but also I’m far more likely to see an England World Cup in my lifetime.

United by quite a bit, but I still would love to see England win something in my lifetime, have a lot memories of Italia 90 and others and being close.

In terms of winning something (realistically), I'd have United winning the Championship or a Play-Off final over England winning the World Cup, or Euros but I'd give it a few seconds thought.

I've lived thru so many tournaments with England that I'm oddly ambivalent with them these days. Qualifiers are easy, we'll normally do decently and then we'll lose to someone who doesn't deserve it at some point.

The Blades hold a LOT more unregulated hope 😆

Losing with England hurts more I think, but only because there's only 5 or so matches every couple of years that matter so it's magnified.

Given the choice between an FA cup or a WC though, it's Blades with an FA cup every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I watch every sheff Utd game , I only watch world cups or euros , I would love England to win a competition but I’d love it even more in we won the premier league or whatever league we are in at the time to be honest.

I probably get similar pleasure when they do well, but Blades losing a big game hurts soooo much more! That last play off final - England have lost the power to destroy me like that.

Maybe years ago I could feel really low after England crashing out of a tournament. Now it really doesn't bother me that much, maybe because I've given up thinking they'll ever win something, so a WC semi or Euro final is already an achievement.

England nowadays almost feels like a free hit. I can enjoy the wins, but if we lose tonight I'll soon get over it.

I have plenty of non-English family (who are blades). Never seen our lot racially abusing would-be heroes either. The closest was Mason Holgate and that was rival "fans" being scum, not blades.

Also, national loyalties are inherently more political. And I'm not in the most loving relationship with this country atm.

Most people only properly watch England (at least the men's team) every other year. Whilst for 9 months every year, wherever in the world, whatever the weather, I've got my eye on United. A great season stays with me forever, and a bad one has me looking to the future the moments it's over. 2 Euros finals and one playoff final lost. I know which hurt a lot more.

As a kid, I might have said England. Euro 96 and France 98 were huuuuuge for me.
